Chosen Mate was a good little novella. Perfect for a quick afternoon read. Leslie and Malcolm were both good well rounded characters and complemented each other nicely. A good balance of story, emotion, and sexy times, I really enjoyed this story.
Short and easy paranormal shifter read. Alpha from Kendrick pack has a thing for Leslie since he first saw her. Leslie is ready to date again and Malcolm is so ready to be that one. A few misunderstandings later they are ready to start but someone is hunting and Leasli and her boy are in danger yet again. A sweet quick read for a rainy afternoon.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
Chosen Mate by Katie Reus is book 9 in the Crescent Moon Series. This is the story of Leslie and Malcolm. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Leslie came into the Kendrick pack abused women with a young little boy. Now she has grown into a more confident one with is attracted to the Alpha of the pack…Malcolm. Malcolm has been wanting Leslie too but didn’t want to make her feel that she didn’t have a choice so both have been dancing around each other but this book settles want they each want. Quick Hot Read.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy through Netgallery of Chosen Mate . I really enjoyed reading this story . It has suspense and Intrigue . The characters are fantastic . It’s well written although short . Malcolm Alpha of the Kendrick pack has been courting Leslie for quit some time . Leslie doesn’t even realize he has been . She doesn’t think Malcolm being the Alpha of the pack would be interested in her . Leslie’s ex was very mean and abusive . He caused physical and mental abuse . When danger comes at Leslie and her son Malcolm and the pack will protect what is theirs . A wonderful story . I highly recommend taking the time to read and enjoy .
Leslie has been through a lot but it has made her stronger and now she’s ready to move forward. She would like for that to be with Malcolm, the pack alpha but she’s not sure he feels the same way.
Malcolm has decided that Leslie is his mate and has been patiently waiting for her to heal from her past. Then Leslie tells him she’s ready to start dating and he has to decide if he’s ready to make his feeling known. Before they can complete their mating, trouble comes calling and someone tries to kidnap Leslie’s son. Can Malcolm eliminate the threat and make a life with Leslie and her son?
Malcolm and Leslie.
A quick sexy read that was entertaining from beginning to end and even though I would so love these books to be longer I seriously love this series.
Leslie is recovering from an abusive ex and raising her son in a new pack…
Malcolm new the first time he met Leslie that she was the one, she is his mate and even if it takes forever she will be his…
I love how sweet Malcolm was doing his stealthy courting routine for a year lol and seriously Leslie was so into him but she held herself back because of her past which i get her first priority is to protect her family even with a new awesome pack supporting her. I was seriously happy when these two got their act together in awesome shifter form.
3.75 stars—CHOSEN MATE is the ninth instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult CRESCENT MOON paranormal, romance novella series. This is wolf shifters, pack alpha Malcolm Kendrick, and book keeper/single mother Leslie’s story line. CHOSEN MATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Malcolm and Leslie) CHOSEN MATE follows the building relationship between pack alpha Malcolm Kendrick and single mother Leslie. One year earlier, Leslie was rescued from an abusive relationship and in the ensuing year Malcolm has bided his time tamping down his attraction to a woman who had suffered so much but Leslie is ready for some companionship even if she has to start dating from the human population. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Leslie and Malcolm, and the potential fall-out as a rogue wolf sets his sights on the Kendrick pack.
Malcolm is a two hundred year old shifter and knows that Leslie is his fated mated. Having watched from the sidelines as the members of his pack slowly succumbed to love and fate, Malcolm struggles with his attraction to a woman who may not be ready to move forward as his mate. Leslie is a single mother whose sole purpose is to ensure the safety of her son. Leslie, her son Elijah, and her mother have been accepted by the Kendrick pack but it is only a matter of time before Malcolm succumbs to his growing attraction.
The relationship between Malcolm and Leslie is one of mutual attraction but Malcolm holds himself back believing Leslie isn’t ready for another relationship while Leslie wonders what she has to do get Malcolm to notice she is ready to move forward. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Leslie’s thirteen month old son Elijah, and her mother Luna, as well as the return of wolf shifters Chelsea and Hudson.
CHOSEN MATE is a story of betrayal, vengeance, healing and moving forward. The premise is entertaining; the characters are animated and energetic; the romance steamy and hot. CHOSEN MATE is a wonderful and engaging addition to the author’s Crescent Moon series.
139 page wolf shifter main couple romance
——————–
If you are looking for a very quick wolf shifter romance fix, this 139 page novella may make that choice pretty easy, folks. You really can’t go wrong with Malcolm, an alpha protective, caring, understanding leader of the pack wolf shifter hero, who has already fallen for the widow, single mom heroine before you even start page 1. Knowing the spousal abuse Leslie has suffered in the past, he has respectfully waited patiently for a long time for her soul to heal before making his move.
You get what the synopsis promises, so I’m not going to ruin this for you by being overly specific. I will say it’s a good thing these two already know each other beforehand, because this is a super quick read.
I’ve been reading this series since book 6 and haven’t been disappointed. In fact, I’ve got some backtracking to do myself. Each book is a stand-alone which often features cameos and/or references to characters from previous books. However, you won’t feel like a stranger at someone else’s family reunion when you come across them. They basically just blend in naturally or play only minor roles.
I must admit I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this genre’s animal shifting process, mainly the clothing issue. Maybe it’s silly/childish of me, but I can’t help but raise my eyebrow (even think “Oh, my!) at the thought of the awkwardness of all that public nakedness when they make the change and feel a tad embarrassed for them. But it is just a day in the neighborhood for them, folks.
As usual, this author’s graphic, smexy/steamy at times writing flows across the pages, and you’ll have a wrapped up HEA conclusion by the end. I don’t know about you, but HEAs is what this avid romantic at heart beats for. Except for one worrisome event, it’s actually pretty smooth sailing for this finally a couple main couple.
Title: Chosen Mate, Series: Crescent Moon (Book 9), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 139, very short novella, stand-alone but part of a series, alpha protective/caring/understanding good guy hero, leader of the pack wolf shifter hero, abusive past history heroine, widow/single mom wolf shifter heroine, violent wolf shifter fight scene, only a couple smex scenes, romance safe.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher/NetGalley.)
If you’ve read any of my reviews, you’ve probably noticed that I don’t review a lot of shifter books. They just aren’t my thing. But I adore Katie Reus’ writing, and I like to support my favorite authors in any way(s) I can. So occasionally I will review books that I wouldn’t normally choose to read otherwise. And Chosen Mate by Katie Reus is a shifter novella. It’s part of her Crescent Moon series but absolutely can be read as a standalone (as it’s the only book in this series I think I’ve read).
Leslie has come to Malcolm’s pack to recover from an abusive relationship. Without her realizing it, he’s doing some old fashioned courting to win her over. When danger makes itself known, will he be able to keep her safe? Will she ever be able to give her heart and her trust away again?
NICUnurse’s Rating: Katie Reus is a great storyteller. She writes characters that are easy to connect with, and her stories have always entertained me. And despite the fact that this was out of my normal subgenre of romance to read, I was never bored or lost while reading this story. If you love shifter romance, be sure to pick this one up (and the rest of the series if you haven’t!), and be on the lookout for more great paranormal/shifter books from a very talented author. By the way, she also writes fabulous romantic suspense (my favorite!), so grab those if that’s your thing like it is mine!
I give Chosen Mate by Katie Reus 4 out of 5 stars!
I was beyond thrilled that we were finally getting Marcus and Leslie’s story.
And this one is action-packed. I always love it also when an author brings characters into the newest stories from older ones. Marcus knows exactly what Leslie endured and although he has wanted her for over a year he has been slow and subtle. But does Leslie want that?
First, there is a threat that needs taken care of then a mating to plan. And although all thought the beasts from Leslie’s old pack were dealt with they are in for a shocker.
I loved this story as I have the many before it.
Leslie has settled back into pack life. She may never forget the hell that her ex-husband put her through but she wants to move on. She has been ready for a while to dip her toe back into romance but sadly the only male who sparks her interest is Malcolm. But as her new Alpha he’d never step over the boundary between them in case she thought he was trying to make her his mate, just as her ex had done!
Malcom recognised Leslie early on as a potential mate but she was in no fit state, mentally, emotionally or physically. So he has tried to do lots of little things to insert himself into her life. I mean does she reallythink the Alpha will put down everything to come fix her leaky sink??? But now that she has declared her intent to go back to dating, Malcolm of going to do his best to get her to see what’s right in front of her!
When danger comes calling and Leslie’s child is put in danger, Malcolm will move heaven and earth to get the child back!
Great read. Novella length but read like a fully fledged book. Lots of action and romance and sweet moments.
This novella can be read as a standalone but for those that have read the previous ones in the Crescent Moon Series such as myself, this is another great addition. Malcolm and Leslie’s story is one that is steamy, full of great characters, has a little drama and gives you a sweet ending. I enjoyed Malcolm and Leslie from the very beginning and once they admitted their feelings to each other the story became even better. This author always leave me wanting more and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. If you love steamy pararnormal reads this book might be the one for you.
Loved it! this is a fast paced book about Leslie a single mother that was in an abusive relationship and making a new start in the Kendrick pack. She is in love with the pack alpha Malcolm but is scared to make the connection with him because of what she has been through. Malcom is a strong character in this book with a tender part of himself. He has been courting Leslie for a while trying to get her and her son used to him and to feel safe and protected but when danger comes calling he steps up and protects what is important to him. Very well written and emotional. this is book 9 in this series and really going strong.
I love how this author was able to show a very dominant wolf shifter hold back on that dominance for the better of his mate. It really showed how patient a true mate would be in order to make sure they never harm their significant other.
Leslie was badly abused by her previous mate. She’s new to the pack and and is completely clueless to how much Malcolm wants to make her his. He never wants Leslie to chose him out of fear, so it took a lot for him to be patient and wait for her to heal and be ready to give love another chance.
This was a great way to have an instant love connection turn into a slow burn romance. It was entertaining to see such a confident alpha stumble in his attempt to whoo Leslie.
I have read many shifter stories and I loved this authors take on this one. I most shifter books the alpha is this growly my way or the highway type of being. They find their mate and take control. I loved that is was different in this book. Malcolm knew that Leslie was coming out of a bad relationship and needed to think of her son. Malcolm was always close to her but he never pushed her into a relationship until she was completely certain and ready.
Leslie was ready to step back out in to the world and date again. She desired Malcolm but didn’t think he was interested being he wasn’t outwardly claiming her. She decides that if she can’t have him she might as well start dating again.
I loved watching Malcolm interact with Leslie and her son. He is a good alpha and will be a good father.
Looking for a quick, sweet and sexy read that will make you smile ? Well this book ticks all those boxes. Leslie has settled with her young son in her new Pack following the death of her abusive ex and as this story begins has no idea the Malcolm, her Alpha is slowly but surely trying to court her. Plus the past isn’t really dead and buried but that fellow reader is for you to discover !
This did feel over very quickly but it most definitely made me feel happy whilst reading it. I didn’t particularly like the mundane names but then again it did make the characters feel real. The romance is perhaps too quick although admittedly a lot has happened before this book begins but I absolutely loved Malcolm and the way he sneakily held himself in check in order to woo Leslie. This was saucy and best of all in spite of the element of danger woven through left me feeling that all was right in the Crescent Moon world.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Leslie had finally escaped her abusive ex and is now living peacefully in the Kendrick pack, with her infant son. Malcolm is the alpha of the Kendrick pack and has never found his mate in the two hundred years he’s been on Earth. Leslie has a crush on Malcolm but because of her background, she’s a little weary. Malcolm has know Leslie was his mate but he takes his time so not to scare her. The fireworks go off once they get together. Now someone from Leslie’s past is back and determined to take her baby from her. Malcolm will do anything to protect his pack and loved ones.
Short but packs a powerful punch. Mystery and wolves and romance. Who wouldn’t want their very own alpha wolf as a mate.. *swoons*.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Her chosen mate
I loved returning to this Crescent Moon series and remember asking for Leslie’s story as I felt she needed a happy ending after the ordeal she went through beforeKatie delivered another fast paced story, that didn’t throw any punches and left me feeling super happy by the end
Leslie is happy with her new Pack and living there with her mom and son. But after being with the Pack for a year and a half, her wolf is getting restless and she’s thinking about starting to date again…all the while fantasising about her Alpha Malcolm. He’s been courting her for the last year but Leslie has been oblivious to his intentions until they talk frankly with each other. But danger is closer to them they either though and Malcolm will do anything and everything to protect her and her son
Thank you to Katie, the publisher and Netgalley for my advanced copy for which I voluntarily leave my honest review
