Tragically widowed, Thea Kozak is tall, brave, and trying to rebuild her life. Then her little sister is murdered in a picturesque Maine town. The police have no leads. Her grieving parents are eager to put everything behind them, and Thea–“little mother” to her adopted sister–refuses to back down. Not when she can do one more thing for Carrie: find the killer and get justice for her little … little sister.
But the truth behind Carrie and her adoption proves ugly, and her killer steadfastly believes family secrets must be kept silent.

I loved the whole box set! A+++++++++++++++
Terrific book with Thea and Andre that continues on in a series. This first book gives you insight into Thea and her lifestyle of work, taking care of everyone and their problems, and a deep rage.
The rage could be over the loss of her murdered adopted sister. Or over the loss of her husband David and her treatment by the cops as he lay dying. But perhaps it is a combination of all the above and her parents attitude about her.
Thea heads to Maine as requested by her parents to clean up and retrieve her sister’s belongings …as if her job could wait, as if her sorrow wasn’t as deep as theirs, and runs straight into Trooper Andre. Fireworks happen between her and the trooper along with miscommunication and crossed purposes.
Thea wants the killer found, her parents want her to drop it and Andre wants her safe. Adoption coverups, bribery, ex- boyfriend, and a sister looking for the truth.
Great characters, plenty of very good clues that I overlooked, lots of atmosphere and a shocking killer. I have read a lot of her books and finally read her first…..worth the wait.
I’ve read a few of the books in this series and I’ve not been disappointed. This is no exception. I enjoyed seeing how Thea’s story began to know a lot more about what drives her and to see the beginning of her relationship with Andre. Terribly tragic Thea has lost her baby sister and embarks on a journey to find the culprit. The characters are well written and highly developed. The overall mystery is both engaging and suitably complex to keep you guessing til the end. Great start to the series and an all around great read. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
It took awhile to actually get into this book, to not want to shut it and never reopen it. I’m not sure when the turning point came, when the heroine became human, her relationship with the trooper became more realistic, her antagonism slowed down and she became sympathetic. I’m an Agatha Christie fan: no violence, no swearing, no religious bashing, no graphic violence. Just a whodunnit that leaves you questioning until the very end.
This book had the four things I don’t enjoy in a book and made it realistic and sympathetic. The author makes you just as angry, frustrated as the heroine. You get to a point you almost want to skip to the end because you really have to know the Who. Kate Flora, with this first in a series about Thea Kozak, is giving the reader insight into a woman who is far from one dimensional. A woman who is tenacious, thoughtful, bigger than life, introspective, etc. It will be interesting to read the rest of the books in the series to see the development of Thea and Andre’s relationship. Will her family see a change in her? Excuse me while I download book two…

This was such a good book to read. So much emotion, energy, and action in it. A real mystery thriller. I could not put it down. I felt like I was right with the main character throughout the story.

Chosen For Death is the first book in the Thea Kozak Mystery Series and it seems to be a great start. It is well written and sets the stage for a thrilling mystery series.
There are many different elements to the story…. mystery, suspense, intrigue, romance and a complex family dynamic. The storyline held my interest. I throughly enjoyed the interaction between the characters and I am definitely looking forward to the continuation in the second book.
