Contemporary Romance Duet: Book 1
I’ve always said if a book can have me in tears with the Prologue it’s going to be one helluva story and this was one that dug its way into my heart, gripped it and held tight. This story was heartbreaking, devastating and riveting with such emotion that I inhaled chapter after chapter within hours only to be shattered by one jaw-dropping ending. The “Queen of Angst” has once again sucked me into a story that has left me utterly breathless! A “TOP READ” that will have you clamoring for book 2 and answers to all the questions running through our heads!
If you are a lover of angst you are in for a treat with M. Robinson’s Choosing Us, book one in the Pierced Hearts Duet. If you have ever laid hands on one of Robinson’s books, then you know she likes to serve us the angst on a golden platter, while relishing how crazy it drives her readers. Choosing Us had a heaping amount and I’m glad.
Choosing Us just didn’t have all the feels. It was on an all new level by itself. Filled to the brim with heartache, pain, hope, and longing, Robinson left nothing yet everything to be discovered.
I loved the fact that Robinson still had some surprises up her sleeve to hand out to readers. She kept me guessing, intrigued and challenged until the very end. This is a duet that you should not miss as it makes you question everything while losing your mind at the very same time. Well done Robinson! Well done.
This is the first book I have read of hers and it had me sad and tears .The story goes from present to past back and forth through out the book. You learn how Aiden and Bailey met got together and some of what happened in the past and present you also learn about their children and a nanny in the present it ends in a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read the next book Choosing You.
Aiden had a rough childhood, he made sure that his soul mate and family would never want for anything because of it, but then he’s soulmate is gone, he doesn’t know how to exist without her.
Enter the nanny, Camila, she starts to love the kids, realising that she may also be starting to have feelings for Aiden. Camila knows she loves the kids, but she needs answers why is their mother never there, she asks only to be told its Aiden’s story to tell, but he’s not saying a thing.
You can see their chemistry, but the questions need answers and when you think you may get them your left with the cliff hanger.
In this book we get Aiden’s back story of childhood heart break and struggles. Aiden and his wife are having issues and a new nanny is hired for their 3 kids. This is a story that will hit you with all the feels. I couldn’t wait to read the conclusion to this duet.
As ever M delivers yet another story that has your heart beating like a train on the track. I haven’t devoured a book this fast in so long. I literally spent the day with my face glued to my kindle!
I thought I had this story sussed quite early on. Then I gave myself a reality check part way through and said to myself “C’mon this is M, it’s never going to be that straight forward”. There’s a massive twist just brewing because this is M right?! Always ready to rip the rug right out from under me!
The emotions in this book poured from every page, the desolate, sad and sorrowful childhood of Aiden and Bailey, I was blubbing withing the first 20 mins. That set the tone for the rest of the book. Something has happened, something devastating and you can feel the angst, the tenseness on every single page. This is going to be on hell of ride before we get to the end!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

Choosing Us is the first book in The Pierced Hearts Duet. You should expect a cliffhanger since this is a duet. This book is absolutely amazing. M Robinson has poured her heart and soul into this one and it shows. I loved every second and can not wait to get my hands on the second book. I need it like now. You guys are going to fall so in love with Aiden and Bailey. You meet these two when they are just kids. Aiden has been left alone in the world and is placed in foster care. This is where he meets Bailey Button who shares food with him and this is the beginning of their unique friendship. Theirs is a love that flows off the pages. Then you better hold on you in for a real awakening and you might just be picking yourself up off the floor from all the emotions your going to go through. Like I said you are going to want the second book in your hands as fast as you can get I. I can not wait to find out what goes on in the next book.
This book shook me. SHOOK ME.
I don’t know how I’m coping right now. The angst is strong with this one.
The book is so heartbreakingly beautiful, I just can’t even. Pick this up now. Just do it and dive right in. I’ll hold your hand when you finish.
The next book releases soon and I am so ready. This emotional ride is worth everything. I’m so on the edge of my seat waiting for more Aiden.
Well don’t Ms Robinson…well done.
When I started reading, my heart totally broke for Aiden but was also left with so many questions! Between the flashbacks and the present, I was collecting more questions about both past and present. While I don’t want to say I was confused, the way this book was written really did have me confused and I’m hoping that the next book in this series will clear it all up for me. The love story between Aiden and Bailey was moving and touching and their upbringing had me in tears! The life they have built made me so hopeful, but I kept looking back to the prologue and added questions to my list. I also found parallels between Aiden and his nanny that make me question and wonder how things will end up. Honestly, I’m just so confused and thrown by this story that I’m really looking forward and hoping the next book will clear up and explain everything.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
OMG! Expect the unexpected for this first part of this duet! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
I don’t know what to even say right now. This book is just unbelievable with its cliffhanger ending. My first book by M. Robinson and defiantly will not be my last. This book has so many unexpected pieces and parts I don’t want to tell you anything because I may spoil it for you! Aiden’s childhood has my heart aching! Camila is just trying to do right for her job! The flashbacks and present day life chapters keep you turning the pages!!!! When is the conclusion coming out I need it now!!!
My mind is totally BLOWN!! Aiden and Bailey’s story is so thought provoking that it has my mind literally all over the place trying to figure out this mystery of Bailey. So many questions and I need the answers. I can’t wait to get my hands on Choosing You. Am I the only one hoping/begging that Aiden and Bailey get a HEA??? Gosh…I really need to know.
M. Robinson is one of my favs and this book here just might be her best work yet.
THIS IS A BOOK THAT YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS READING!! IT IS JUST THAT AWESOME!!!

Happy Reading Everyone!!!
This was my first book by this author though I have several others….. now I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. It had me completely hooked from the very first chapter and refused to let me go until the very last page. It was heartbreaking and raw…..and I loved every second of it. And that ending had me saying OMG!!
M Robinson is a new-to-me author and I am in love! Choosing Us did not disappoint. I decided to read it based on friends’ recommendations and the blurb. It was surprising in every way. It is angsty and emotional and I am addicted – I need more! More of these characters and more of their story. Both the current scenes and the flashbacks were told in such depth and detail that I was living through every moment with them. The depth of these characters was astounding…and each relationship.
Aiden & Bailey’s childhood is gut-wrenching at times, and their love for each other is all-consuming and will leave your heart racing. I could not put this book down and my feelings were all over the place. I had goosebumps and shed both happy and painful tears. M Robinson does an amazing job of leaving possibilities open with these characters and I can’t wait to see what happens in Choosing You. Well done M Robinson! I am officially a fan!!
Holy angst!!!
Why did I wait so long to read a book by this author?!?!
Choosing Us captured my attention straight from the prologue and still hasn’t let me go. I stayed up late devouring this entire story in one sitting. There are so many layers to this story, the plot is extremely intricate and I couldn’t get enough.
There is not a single part of this story that I want to spoil for you. The synopsis of this book is all you need to dive in and enjoy the heck out of this story. Just when you think you know where the story is headed, what is going to happen, it veers so off that course and surprises you in the best way!
I can’t wait to get my hands on the second half of this duet. My mind is wandering, racing, and trying to figure out where this story is going to go and what is going to happen to these characters I’m completely invested in. While I wait, I’m going to go dive into this author’s backlist because I think I just found a new favorite!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
Another great read from M. Robinson. Choosing Us is a rollercoaster of love and heartbreak, high highs and low lows, tears of happiness and dispair. Have their tissues ready.
This isn’t the first time we’ve met Dr Aidan Peirce, but it the first time we learn a little about the man, hear his story, understand the compassion he has shown Noah in other books.
Be prepared for a cliffhanger, can’t wait for Choosing You.
This author hooked me from the minute I started reading Choosing Us. She sucked me straight in with the most heart rending prologue I’ve read in a long time, one which had me desperately turning the pages, needing to know what the heck had happened!
The story is told by way of chapters from the present and flashback chapters from Aiden and Bailey’s childhood. Beautifully written, those chapters from the past were full of love and loss, survival and friendship and were, at times, especially hard to read. I don’t always enjoy books told this way, but for Choosing Us this works extremely well. The contrast between the past and present took me on a huge rollercoaster ride of emotions and I couldn’t get enough. I’m not sure yet if I like adult Aiden, I don’t have enough information about him in the present and so I’m reserving my judgment. Aiden as a child, however, was amazing, albeit sometimes he was a little too old and articulate for his years in my opinion. A gutsy, yet scared and vulnerable little boy, he never gave up and, as he grew, his kindness and strength shone through.
Choosing Us is quite a different kind of book from those we’ve been used to from this author in the recent past and I can say it certainly won’t be what you expect. Yes there’s plenty of angst but there’s humour too, courtesy of one feisty young woman who plays a very important role. I liked her very much and am hugely intrigued by her. I have a feeling she may have an even bigger part to play, a bigger contribution to the story than we are led to believe. I certainly hope so, I love a good misdirection. There’s so much mystery here, a puzzle we’re being given one piece at a time. I don’t want to say too much about the plot, as it appears the blurb has been kept deliberately vague and I don’t want to spoil it. I believe in order to fully enjoy it you need to go in blind, open minded and without any preconceived ideas.
This is book one of a duet, with book two, Choosing You, out next month and I can’t wait to read it. Cliffhangers don’t generally bother me but I know some readers prefer to wait until a story is complete before starting it and so I will confirm it does end on a cliffy and one heck of an ambiguous one to boot!
Choosing Us by bestselling author M. Robinson is a contemporary, second chance romance that kept my attention from beginning to end. As a long time reader of Monica, I have always loved the stories she pens and have very high standards that she has not only met, but exceeded at every turn in the past. She is one of my go-to authors for super sexy, super angsty reads that offer more character depth and story progression than the average romance. And with Choosing Us, M. Robinson delivered an extremely enjoyable, slightly new enterprise.
Choosing us expertly wove the events of the past with those of the present that began with the primary characters as youths to show the progression of their lives, essentially providing rich context and character progression. Yet, although angsty in its own right, Choosing Us is not as angsty as the books in M. Robinson’s backstock. Also, the love story that we get, isn’t the one I was expecting. Nor is this one based on some overwhelming and insane sexual chemistry. Now, don’t misunderstand that statement, the story has its own sexy… it just doesn’t follow the storylines I expected it to. The slow build up definitely upped the ‘ante’ if you will… and I don’t think anyone who reads this will be disappointed but if you’re accustomed to Monica’s standard flavor of romance, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. The story centers around a man choosing a second chance at love and overlaps the past and the present with dual perspectives so that we understand Aiden and Camilla in a way you only can if you read the story in it’s full context. Additionally, while I certainly love the emotions that Monica brings to the stories she writes, I found this one to be comical at times and that’s not an emotion that I attribute as being a hallmark of her work. Do I chuckle in her books the way I would a rom-com? Umm, that would be a no. Did I with Choosing Us? Absolutely. I expected a second chance romance between Aiden Pierce, and his childhood sweetheart Bailey… and the flashbacks from Alden are the reason I assumed that’s the story that was going to be told. But in reality, this book centers around Camilla, the nanny that’s hired to care for Aiden’s children after Bailey tells him she no longer loves him. And he has to start his life all over… just when he thought it was nothing by clear skies ahead for them.
Choosing Us was remarkably realistic in so many ways, and as deeply as I have felt in the past reading the books in Monica’s catalog, there is absolutely something about this one that owned me. And I simply cannot wait for the conclusion to the duet to release next month. Be prepared to binge read if you’re waiting to start the Pierced Hearts Duet until both books are live because there is no stopping with this conclusion.
M went back to contemporary and I am SO HAPPY!!! Not to say I don’t love her darker books, because I do, but contemporary is where she shines brightest. Choosing Us is everything an M Robinson book needs to be. It’s sweet, sexy, angsty, and rips your heart out with a cliff hanger that will make you hold your breath. Even though characters from the Ends With Us duet are mentioned and even have a small part in this book, it is not a necessity to have read them first to fully enjoy Choosing Us. Although I highly recommend those books too. Choosing Us is mainly told in the viewpoint of a character I did not expect. I thought I would be reading one story and what I got was something entirely unexpected. The story fluctuates between past and present and it makes it all the more heartbreaking I think. You see what they have, you see the love they share. It makes the present that much more devastating and will leave you torn and without any answers at all…..thanks to that cliff hanger I mentioned earlier. In true M style, the angst is real ya’ll. You need tissues, wine, and chocolate to help you deal with what she puts you through. I cannot wait until the next book to see which direction she takes us. The one thing I know for sure, whatever mess she left of your heart, she’ll piece it back together again
My first read from this author, I know! What an emotional ride from the very beginning, this story grips the heart making the muscle contract but never really releasing enough to catch your breath before another contraction, leaving one an empty vessel feeling depleted emotionally. Hope Aiden & Bailey find their way back to each other Oh I need a HEA.
