Being kidnapped by aliens is only the start of Jade’s problems. Thankfully, her rescuers, an alien race known as the Clecanians, are willing to protect her, but she has to stay on their planet for one year and respect the rules of their culture—including choosing a husband. Jade refuses at first but decides to play along until she can find a way back to Earth.Theo, a scarred mercenary who prefers … prefers a life of solitude, is stunned when Jade selects him as her husband. After years of being passed over, he never imagined he would be chosen and neither did anyone else. Only one explanation makes sense…the curvy enticing female must be a spy, and Theo’s determined to break her cover using any means necessary. As Jade and Theo are forced to spend time together, their chemistry becomes undeniable. But neither can afford to bring love into the equation, especially since Jade seems determined to go home. After all, she can’t possibly stay here, right?

This story and these characters are so great. I love Theo and Jade not to mention the other characters bring introduced for the future books. The story is entertaining and captivating and I just couldn’t put the book down! Will definitely read the next 2.
i enjoyed this book. The Joining concept and the training of the men (grades!) was unique and had me chuckling. Wish our men had to take classes like the Clecanians did!
I loved these characters! I love this world! The conflict wasn’t too over the top, and the HEA was just wonderfully sweet. Definitely recommend.
Best book ever
This was a good story. A very different story not at all like most alien stories. I found that it was witty and definite in favor of females.
love the book
I loved this book and immediately bought the second one and pre-ordered the 3rd. The plot is similar to other alien romances in that the planet is short on females and trying to find and trying to find compatible races to mate with. The fact that they and humans are similar brings them hope but they aren’t normally allowed to visit earth, let along take someone from there and that’s a problem. The h, Jade, is kidnapped from earth but manages to escape, survive, and winds up in a major city. Jade is great, has some moments when she gets sad, and rightfully so, but doesn’t dwell on it. She’s strong, open minded, and a joy to read. Now the hero, Theo, he’s amazing. The perfect amount dreamy and gruff without ever being an a-hole. Scars are something this planet doesn’t find attractive and after an accident as a child Theo is covered in them but to Jade they look like tattoos which, of course, are super hot. The Queen decided for safety Jade should participate in picking a temporary husband, common on the planet. She picks Theo but he can’t see how she’s find him attractive and believes she’s a spy sent to steal sensitive secrets. He’s a bit of a jerk but Jade stands her ground and obviously proves him wrong. They’re relationship is great and I love when Theo realized how much he loves Jade and how important she was to him. Recommend all day long. Enjoy!
This is a charming, alien romance with interesting characters and setting.
This book was different than I thought it would be. There was a lot of depth to Theo as his story is revealed. The world building was interesting. Jade was a stong character having to adjust to a whole new world and Theo often didn’t make it easy for her. I enjoyed how the story played out.
I felt like I really got a good connection to the characters in this book. After turning the last page, I promptly ended up in Kindle, to buy the second one in the series. I only hope I can last until the new book comes out in January!
The start was very quick, and leapt into space and everything Jade went through on the kidnappers’ ship, which isn’t something I’ve read often. However for some or other reason I just didn’t like her for most of the start of the story. It was only later, after she started developing feelings for Theo that she started growing on me.
All in all it was a good book to relax with, and the two took you on an adventure as they got to know each other. The end was a total surprise for me as well, which worked out well.
Excellent read!!! I have now read the whole series waiting for next book to come out later this year. The author is amazing. It has also opened me up to a new genera of novels that I was never really into.

STORY
I really enjoy this book. Had a few hiccups, however, pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. The cons, the first 13 to 15 chapters, it started out interesting, but I did not appreciate the dragged out picking and meeting of Theo. It was annoying. There were a lot of politics, but I am a big girl and don’t feel as though anyone’s views are being thrust upon me. It’s another planet and I take it for what it is, a story.
The pros, the moment Theo and Jade came into a scene, it became interesting. The chemistry was exciting to read. Theo the sexy, muscles scared and very grumpy hero nobody would pick for a companion and Jade the loner from Earth who happen to be kidnapped from earth and thrust into a foreign planet where women seem to have the upper hand. As the story progress we see Theo becoming more possessive. Jade is adjusting while trying to seduce her new husband, and a plot is unfolding that is becoming interesting.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Once Theo and Jade had sex, it was very much satisfactory, and that’s all due to Theo. What a beast. Jade as well, but Theo stole the show for me.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS
There were so many characters that I enjoyed. But those who stood out, Theo’s sister and towards the end, the meeting of his family.
OVERALL
Enjoyable story and start of a series.
TRIGGERS:
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
This was a great alien/human romance. Theo is my favorite type of hero. He is scarred and unsure of his actual good looks. He has a great heart but needs some help with his view of his own worth. Jade is the perfect human for the job. She not only is extremely attracted to him but has the heart of gold to help him see his worth. They make an amazing pair.
Was not expecting erotica. Thought it was just paranormal. Boy was I wrong.
So happy I chose to pick up this book on Audible! First, the narrator has a great voice, and he really draws you in. Theo and Jade were a perfect couple. They really complimented one another. I thought Theo held a lot of sex appeal without being too overbearing with Jade. Definitely a great first book. (I’ve already listened to the second and am currently on the third. Gobbling them up!)
Thanks for the great read! And I love the cover.
Lily S. Thomas – Author of the Galactic Courtship series
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and easily identifiable, and the world building was great. I liked that the female character gave as good as she got, and didn’t back down from what she wanted.
Pretty good
Choosing Theo surprised me. I did not suspect this book to be a winner. Sue me for not having more faith.
First of all, I am on an alien romance kick. It’s about all I’ve read for two months. All the books are starting to sound alike. It’s few that stand out, yet I read on looking for the unicorns. I really want to believe there are smexy aliens out there.
I want to believe.
So, let’s consider me a qualified expert on Alien Romance. I’ve read at least fifty of these babies this year. I’d say it’s an in-depth study.
Most of these abduction books start the same. The woman is abducted from Earth. Check. That happens here.
Abducted, Jade ends up on Clecania where she is saved by the helpful natives and then by their customs married off. She chooses Theo as her husband, and this is where it all goes awry. Because Theo is a bit of a butthead, and he assumes that since no one in the city of Tremantra wants him, Jade is clearly a spy sent to discover his secrets.
It’s pretty much a formula where there is a threat from another alien faction or species that makes the mate realize he can’t survive without his mate. Sorta check.
Victoria Aveline handled the romance well enough that the plot developed organically and didn’t need any significant catalyst to set it off. She had solidified her steaminess well before she tossed in the grenade. I loved the amount of sexiness in this book. It’s got such an insane level of heat that it will damn near singe your fingers off.
But another thing about this book that I could appreciate was that Aveline’s world is so rich. She is keen on building a complex society. She introduces many different races of Clecanians and offers the benefits and weaknesses of some. The author’s world-building does a great job of suggesting that the imbalance of its population curbs the utopian qualities of Clecania.
i can’t even describle why this book became a favoite of mine. I’ve read it twice. I love the plot, the beautiful characters, not wanting the book to end. Without giving too much away, can you imagine picking your mate out of a lineup? Knowing your mate’s bio, and he knows nothing about you? I don’t believe you will be disappointed.
