A Cynical Cyborg Meets A Bad, Bad Female.Chuckles hates all humans. In the past, humans betrayed him. That treachery caused permanent damage to his muscular form, resulting in a lifespan of pain. When the primitive D Model cyborg answers a distress call sent by a pink-and-blue haired, sparkly human female, he knows it’s a trap. He still has to respond to her fake cry for help. She belongs to him, … She belongs to him, is the one being genetically fabricated for him. But he plans to be her captor, not her captive.
Bettina, aka Bait, works with a team of females, snaring sexual predators in space, seizing their ships and transporting them to primitive planets. As soon as she speaks with Chuckles, she knows he’s not like the others. He has honor, is a being worthy of respect, of caring.
But she can’t let him go. She has to trap him. His dominance thrills her. His deep voice evokes desires she’d never experienced in the past. She’ll risk it all, breaking every rule for one wild encounter with the male she calls Sir.

I sooooo loved ‘Choosing Chuckles’!!!
I was both laughing & teary eyed for both Chuckles & Bettina (his bad, bad female), parts of the story broke my heart for Chuckles: how he expected humans to view/treat him, I thought Bettina was so sweet, so loving, so accepting, I adored how COLORFUL her character was & how she wanted to be that way, especially for Chuckles. I loved her father & his caretaker & their sarcastic bickering too.
But I found this one grabbed my heart as much as the author’s Cyborg story ‘Releasing Rage’ (my all time fave of the author’s cyborg stories & I love them ALL!). I was sucked into Chuckles story so damn much & I felt Bettina was perfect for him & he was perfect for her. (P.S. The sex in the author’s books IMO: fine. Quality AND quantity wise!!) Oh, I did also get a LOT of CHUCKLES with Chuckles & Bettina’s erotic relationship dynamic , I thought it was extremely cute & sexy.
So, if you want a romance that grabs your heart & squeezes & satisfies it, that makes you teary eyed AND smile, that makes you chuckle, that has danger & action as well as a cute but sexy erotic dynamic between H/h, I SO RECOMMEND this one. This is a mandatory multiple REREAD for me!!!
Sir is probably not happy that his book is only a 4-star book, but his D-Model butt wasn’t as sexy as a C-Model, so he just didn’t do it for me.
Bettina is a colorful piece of space jetsam who spends her time with her friends, hailing strangers to see what predators respond and then parting those predators from their spaceships and placing the creepers on the nearest habitable planet to find themselves new arrangements.
Chuckles is a jaded D-Model who hates humans and believes they are all deceitful tricksters. His genetic match, Bettina, proves his point. But she also calls him Sir, begs him to call her baby, yearns to play domination/submission games with him, and after all, is his. So who is the big hunk of bolts to complain, amirite?
I liked the D/s elements of this one. Whatsmore is that I enjoyed the story, it was delicious. The overall story arc was fantastic BUT–for some reason, Chuckles kept rubbing me wrong. And perhaps some of it was I was having a hard time taking an irascible badass cyborg named Chuckles sexy, that could be it.

3 stars – I liked it
Chuckles hates all humans. When he answers a distress call sent by a pink and blue haired sparkly female he realizes it’s a trap but he also knows she is his. Battina, aka Bait, works with a team of females, capturing predators, seizing their ships and transporting them to primitive planets. She doesn’t expect a cyborg but she can’t resist him.
This was a good cyborg romance. Chuckles was a very grim cyborg but Bettina really brings out his emotions. She makes him more than an angry machine. I was surprised by how much I liked Bettina. She was a beautiful human who uses that beauty as bait to catch sexual predators. Bettina was just a courageous woman who used her deadly job to support her father.
The sex in this one was steamy! Bettina is extremely submissive and just wants to be protected, which was perfect for an overprotective cyborg like Chuckles. She does like to get in trouble though so she can get disciplined, which was a lot. Basically the sex scenes in this book were great and worked wonderfully for these two character.
Sax’s writing has definitely improved since her first cyborg book. There is a lot more character and story development now than there was in the beginning, which makes these newer books a lot more fun, especially since they still have a lot of sex. Overall, this was a great start for a new series and I can’t wait for the other crew members to find their mates.
My favorite book in this series so far! I loved everything about this book! The characters were easy to love, there was a great storyline and the writing was strong, I really couldn’t put it down. There was a lot of action of course, and some characters were loathsome, but they made the story deeper. Blue eyes though, that killed me. I think Chuckles and Bettina are perfect together. This story is a perfect mesh of action, romance and credible literary juice. I loved it.
Bad bad female lol. Fate definitely has her hands on these Cyborgs lives. For Chuckles to hear by chance a distress call from the one person who will test his patience at every turn.. epic. Loved their dynamic and how Chuckles sees her through the lies for what she truly is… after a good reprimand sighhhhh.
Loved it. Highly recommend this book.
Cyborgs have new missions now!
Chuckles (I do wish the author had chosen another name!) serves on Vector’s ship, Reckless, patrolling their sector of space to protect beings from the Humanoid Alliance. Somehow Reckless intercepts a transmission from Bait – a glittery and seductive human female whom Chuckles recognizes instantly – she’s HIS female! A joy he never thought to feel sets him on the path to meet and claim her – and punish her for being a deceitful human. He doesn’t understand Bait’s role – she’s a lure to trap intergalactic sexual predators. And Bait doesn’t get that Chuckles is a cyborg good guy, not one of her targets. They work out their identities, their relationship, and a way out of a seemingly impossible situation in order to find HEA, but it’s a rough, sometimes heartbreaking journey. Four stars for excellent world-building and all the feels. A warning to those who dislike kink – severe dominance and punishment themes. I’m pleased to see author Cynthia Sax’s Cyborg universe expanding.
The crew of the Reckless, composed mostly of cyborgs, had noticed an unauthorised vessel. When they receive a call for help, they are wary. Upon speaking with the female, Bettina, Chuckles senses she’s lying but also his genetic match. How could it be? She is human, and Chuckles hates all humans. But he has to see for himself. Bettina’s and her team’s mission is to track and capture sexual predators in space. The sexy cyborg doesn’t act like a sexual predator, but he exudes such dominance that she is immediately turned on. And Chuckles is mesmerised by the sparkly, very colourful human female; his female.
What an intriguing start to a new series! I found it very compelling because of the complex relationships between the characters. Bettina’s teammate Keeper is utterly fascinating, and I hope she gets her story very soon; she is fierce! I also loved Bettina’s relationship with her dad and his caregiver Duggar; what great characters, and they are not the only fantastic ones. I just love the language and the fabulous dialogues. CHOOSING CHUCKLES has a BDSM element: there is spanking, and a D/s relationship between Bettina and Chuckles, baby and Sir. She’s a bad, bad little human female, her big cyborg needs to reprimand her, and she thrives on being reprimanded. Bettina sparkles, literally: she covers herself with glitters, and she sports vibrant hair colours. We also get to watch the Humanoid Alliance “in action”, and it’s not pretty. I loved the planet Vega R and its furry beings, and I hope we go back again some day.
Oh, the cyborgs. I love Cynthia Sax’s cyborgs. I can never, ever get enough of them. This one is the start of a new series within the same ‘verse. Our cyborgs are going to be going where no being has ever gone before. Or, something like that.
I love Chuckles. I’ve liked him since we saw him first, even if he wasn’t a fan of humans. There’s just something about the damaged warrior that was so appealing to me. (Even if he isn’t a C Model).
Bettina just seems like such a fun and bubbly person, who is actually perfect for Chuckles. I think their dynamic is just what both of them need and such a great way to make everyone happy.
I can’t wait to see what Cynthia Sax is going to do next with our cyborgs.
I do so love these cyborgs!
I love the cyborgs’ penchant for assigning percentages of probability to nearly everything!
Chuckles is not a humorous cyborg like Truth. Grim is more like it; stern is a given. He doesn’t show his affections openly, it’s in the little things he does. Bettina is a playful little being, always testing limits! She’s also loyal, dedicated to making sure her loved ones are safe, and receiving good care. Odd as it may seem, they’re a perfect match. Each provides something that is crucial to the happiness of the other. Reading their story is a pleasure from start to finish.
Ms. Sax has the skill to take her readers through the full gamut of emotions: the anger of someone severely wronged, the depths of sorrow when a friend is lost, the elation of love realized. It is difficult to move on from that. The next book I read may not get its due.
