Brave the wild. Bury the past. Choose your destiny.
Choosing Bravery is a stand-alone novella set in a beautiful but dangerously unforgiving wilderness. It’s also the third book in the award-winning Lonesome Hearts series which can be read in any order.

If you enjoy your western romances with some nail-biting suspense you’ll enjoy this short story!
The author does a superb job of painting a picture of the winter wilderness and later of a cave they explore in search of Élodie’s parents.
She saves a gravely injured man from certain death and during the course of repairing his broken body, develops feelings for him. But Lachlan is just as damaged within as he is on the outside.
Can these two find a way to heal one another or will their spirits be cast adrift?
You’ll have to read this engrossing story to find out!
I really enjoyed this story. It is 3rd in the Lonesome Hearts Series. Élodie Rousseau’s Parents vanished when she was young. She was raised by Eagle Feather and Faith, an Osage Warrior and a White Schoolteacher.
With the knowledge they instilled in her she became a legendary guide.
Lachlan Bravery, a fugitive tracker searching for a band of outlaws stumbles on Elodie. They connect but he fights it due to the demons he is chasing, or are they chasing him?
I have always loved the tales about Native Americans. Their culture is vivid and brings alive the old west for me! This is another one of those stories! You won’t put it down until you are finished!
Another good book in a good series. I’m really enjoying the series and loved Lachlan and Elodie’s story. I look forward to more books in the series.

This is a short book on the trials of life and avoiding death. A young gal lost her parents years ago and raised by Indians, now finds a lone man injured near caves. The hunt for scientific information brings a French academic and the three people search the caves on the mountain. This is the story of that search which also brings forth spirit legends, bones of ancestors and deep pits. There is a mystic feel to the book and I enjoyed it.
I found this to be a lovely read, that will keep you wanting to read it and the other books in the series. There is adventure in the read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Book three in the Lonesome Hearts series I bought this book sometime ago and never read until now. I will be reading the rest of the books in this series. The story is placed in Oregon Territory – 1868. Élodie Rousseau went to live with an Osage warrior and a logging camp schoolmistress who joined forces to return Élodie’s beloved spirit horse, after her parents disappeared. With them as her teachers, she became the legendary Cascade Mountain guide, Yellow Feather. Legendary Far North fugitive tracker, Lachlan Bravery and Élodie meet. They will have a lot to over come before they get their happy ending. A book I recommend.
Elodie is a white woman who has been under the protection of the local Indians since the death of her parents. She decides she needs to get to the bottom of what happened to them. In a dramatic opening scene, she meets Lachlan, a man haunted by his past and present, who threatens to kill her unless she kills him first. In a bold move, she tells him that is not how she was raised and that she chooses bravery. Her accidental use of his last name snaps him out of the mental morass he has been in, and she tends to his wounds over several weeks.
I love Elodie! Right from the start, she is strong willed and brave but with the capacity for immense compassion and kindness. Lachlan struggles with his demons, and the author exquisitely renders these two people’s evolving relationship with each other and their quests. The author describes a scene well, helping you slip right into the world of the characters. This is a relatively short novella, and the only real problem I have with it is that I think she spent too long on the setup as Elodie is about to leave the mountain. Things got more interesting once that large chunk of the novella was over. I love the intrigued, the romance, and the setting. As I am an Oregonian myself, I am a sucker for stories that take place in the old west time of my state’s history. I think the author did it, and the characters, justice.
ONE CAPTIVATING DELIGHT!!!
Wow! Talk about a bumpy ride. A whirlwind of unexpected actions and surprising events that propel all of your swirling emotions blazing to life drawing you in deeper and deeper. One intriguing storyline and engaging plot hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. All the drama, uncertainty and suspense make for one enjoyable experience. The characters are authentic, approachable and realistic with such depth and individuality its easy to relate. The scenes are vividly detailed and breathtaking you have no problem picturing each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Twists and turns abound with all the trials and tribulations that bring this bad boy together beautifully before your eyes. Fantastic job Jacqui, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
This story takes place in Oregon 1868. Elodie needs to solve the mystery of the cave and whose bones are in there. Are they someone she loves? Two men go with her, both for their own reasons. Will they make it out alive? What is that thing in there? Human or otherwise?
This story only takes about an hour to read but it packs a lot into a short tale.
This beautifully written story is another stirring adventure set in the old west. Part of the Lonesome Hearts series, it is a quick engaging read. Once again, Ms Nelson plunges us into another time and place when two wounded souls, Elodie and Lachlan, search for truth and find love in the Oregon wilderness. The cultural backgrounds of the characters make them fresh and unique. The wild setting threatens the characters and pits them against not only one another, but the elements as well.
I commend the author for creating a story that has depth and grit while delivering a heartwarming ending.
