Falling in love was the easy part.
Being secretly in love with my brother’s best friend is where it got tricky.
Levi Dent was off-limits. Which was probably for the best, since he barely knew I existed.
Until one night I saw an opportunity I couldn’t resist.
The problem was, I got caught.
She tricked me.
I knew there was something so familiar about her, but I just couldn’t resist.
Hannah … so familiar about her, but I just couldn’t resist.
Hannah Matthews was nothing more than my best friend’s little sister. Except she wasn’t so little anymore.
I need to forget all about her.
If only it were that easy…

Chicks, Man is another hit by J.D. Hollyfield! She continually impresses with her ability to give us light, adorable humor, incredibly hot steam, and still manages to throw us a suspenseful curveball! This book will have you flipping pages, eager to see how it all plays out! Definitely recommend this one! It’s unique, surprising, and one you’ll devour I one sitting like I did! – Five SASSY and SUSPENSEFUL Stars!
This brother’s best friend romance has it all – steam, humor, suspense, and all the swoon. Levi Dent is my favorite kind of hero. Polite and hard working gentleman, but Hannah brings out a different, wild side to him. When they’re alone, it’s epic! Highly recommend!
JD Hollyfield NEVER disappoints!!
Excellent read. Didn’t expect the twist, but enjoyed it! Don’t want to give anything away of the plot, it this book has feels, action, suspense and laughter too.
Seriously! Chicks, Man! We are a unique species that’s for sure, messing with the heads of men since the dawn of time! What can I say about this book! I loved every minute of it. The words are fluidly written into a nice well rounded story, which to my pleasant surprise was much different than I thought it would be! Although it still held the same quirky, witty, fun loving demeanor I have come to look for and love with J.D.’s characters and she did not disappoint!
Hannah is the underdog heroine you grow attached to from the get go, and stick with her the whole way through her crazy schemes, LOL fumbles and heart wrenching recoveries. Levi has no idea what he wants (at first he thinks he does, then he doesn’t, then he figures it out…maybe) hahaha he’s all over the place with weird emotional things happening to him he has no idea how to handle because it cant be solved in a courtroom or on a football field. He’s a lovable soul and has his jerk moments but there is no denying the pull between he and Hannah, and that she is changing something in him. Now just to escape the wrath of her family, that’s the trick…
This story was a great read front to back! Not once were there super slow periods that you had to drag yourself through. There were unexpected plot twists and cringy ah-hah moments that you don’t normally find in a rom-com, which made it that much more interesting and enticing. I love a book that can steal my breath, laughs, tears and tug my heartstrings all at the same time and this book did just that. It’s every 8yr old girls’ fantasy *sigh*
Chicks, Man is a 5 star read for sure. I picked this one up late last night (really about 1am!!) and is the reason I look hungover this morning, because I decided that finishing it was more important than sleeping! Several times I told myself “one more chapter” (who believes THAT lie?!?!), but I would inevitably click to go to the next page, and ended up with only about 3 hours of sleep – and it was 100% worth it!!
If you are looking for a book that makes you laugh until you cry, then cry for real, and finally smile through your tears, I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a J.D. Hollyfield work, and this is no exception. I first ran in to these characters in their novella, and was THRILLED when I heard they were getting their own full-length book! If you love a good rom-com, you will not regret one-clicking this one. Right now it’s available for free in KU, but I guarantee you are going to want to finish it there, and then go spend the $3.99 so you always have access at a moment’s notice. I read a LOT of books, and the ones who put me through all of my emotions are favorites, especially when the author can make me laugh out loud, and JD does that with Chick’s. You’ve got absolutely nothing to lose, (except maybe a little sleep!!) by giving this a shot! I highly recommend this one, it is a 5 star read for sure. Do yourself a favor and check it out today!
JD Hollyfield is an author I am told to read all the time. She has some great rom-com books and when this came out I thought “oh – it’s time”.
The first few chapters I was unsure – a college graduate “tricking” someone into having sex with her in a closet – her brother’s best friend…how realistic is that? I wasn’t quite on board…but I kept reading and I am so glad I did. I may not love how these two started out (in the closet) but as the book continues I really, really, really began to LOVE these two characters.
Levi and Hannah have known each other for years. She’s the dorky little sister of Levi’s best friend. Levi has always been friendly and cordial to Hannah but she wasn’t even on his radar. After a bad break up he finds himself checking out Hannah at her brother’s wedding. With some trickery from Hannah – they have some seriously hot sex in a closet and it all hits the fan.
Just a few weeks later – Hannah begins her dream job – working for her father’s law office and low and behold – Levi works there too and he’s her new boss. The sparks between these two smolder and once ignited – they just can’t stop!
I think this book games me more than just a favorite trope of brother best friend, but a sincere, sweet, deep, healing friendship and relationship between these two. And then JD Hollyfield throws in a bit of suspense and intrigue. This book had it all (well – not really a rom-com) but it was unique in the depth of the story and the characters.
Definitely worth a read , very good story and characters. Leaves you on the edge of seat. I suggest for a good read
I loved this book it was fast paced and sweet funny and a little suspenseful. It was a book that sucked you in from page one to the end.
Levi and Hannah are just perfect it may have stated out as deceit but it definitely had a lot of love too. Hannah was an awesome main character she didn’t take crap she knew what she wanted and went for it. She was super smart and a hard worker. Her one slip up may have turned into the best night of her life and the greatest love she will experience.
Levi a sexy alpha football star turned lawyer holds his own. He will go after what he wants with both hands.
This book was great i could not put it down I had to know how it ended.
This sounded fun and I was very excited to read it and I liked it….mostly. I thought Levi and Hannah were great characters. I felt that their chemistry was easy to feel and as a forbidden romance junkie, the whole brother’s best friend angle really worked for me. Things got off to a great start and I was super happy and then the book seemed to change direction and become a book that was less focused on romance and humor and more on suspense. Now, do not get me wrong, I like to enjoy a romantic suspense read as much as the next reader but it as just not what I was expecting. So it kind of took a bit of the shine off for me. As I often settle down to read whatever fits my mood, this was a problem for me. In the end I still found this to be an enjoyable read, I just wish I had truly known what I could expect.
“Did you know not all raindrops are made of water?”
Hannah may be an adult, but she is still treated as the same invisible teenager. Discreet, sweet and shy, she has always been the target of bullying from her brother’s friends, the mean girls at school and even her brother, if I dare say, who never defended her and treated her as if she didn’t matter. Even with a loving family, she has no fond memories of her past. Now a recent college graduate, this intelligent woman has learned to be more confident, but her brother’s marriage is enough to bring insecurities to the surface. Even more so when all her executioners are present and still treat her the same way. But among all, one stands out. Levi, her brother’s best friend, the only one who tried to treat her a little better and her secret passion for so long.
When a unique and crazy opportunity to have sex with the guy you’re in love with comes up, it’s impossible to resist. It doesn’t matter that you’re in a closet, and he doesn’t know it’s you.
Levi doesn’t believe that the best sex of his life has just been with his best friend’s sister, nor that she deceived him.
When she returns home to work at her father’s law firm, finding out that Levi will be her boss is not going to be good news, especially with the way she has been avoiding him.
And so the battle of the century begins. Levi feels cheated. She feels hurt. But what both do not admit is that they are attracted to each other.
The book begins as a typical romance, with even the addition of a character to cause a tremor in their relationship. But as the plot progresses, suspense, secrets and a great mystery will be part of the story. As well as a very well-designed plan, with intrigues, to break up the characters, until the big reveal and the final suspense. I particularly preferred only the part of the romance, I thought that this break in rhythm damaged the plot a little. Braydon was predictable, only the characters didn’t see.
I liked the book, the couple is interesting, conflicts are believable, the dose of romance is present and their questions are understandable. The mystery is also interesting, but the line between subplot and total suspense with action and psychopathic villain weighed the narrative.
The first half of the book was good. Levi and Hannah trying to resist one another (mostly Leo) and it being difficult. The intrigue part of the story was okay but a little too contrived. I know it’s fiction, but we were asked to believe a lot including how lax these professionals were in their law office. For me, the second half really dragged. I didn’t have the emotional investment in it that I thought I should.
This story had everything. There’s humor, sizzling hot steaminess, suspense, and dramatic moments. This author pulled all of those elements together flawlessly to make an amazing, couldn’t put it down read. Its perfection.
I enjoyed the characters and some I loathed, one in particular, which you’ll find out about. I adored Hannah and Levi. The banter and chemistry between these two is electric and highly entertaining. I love Levi’s dirty mouth and protectiveness and he’s crazy sexy. Hannah is adorably goofy, smart, and gorgeous.
You’ll want to speed through the pages with this one to find out how it all plays out. I can’t rave enough about this fantastic read!
It’s always fun and exciting when Holyfield is involved.
I love her books, and this one is no exception. This was so much fun. It’s super funny, mixed with great drama and some crazy moments. I devoured this in one day and truly was left after like I just watched the best movie.
This story has everything you will enjoy. The characters are my favorite, but it’s a bit crazy what some of them go through. Which is perfect drama we all love!
Oh my! This book started off differently to how it ended. I didn’t expect the surprises that came and I was kept on the edge of my seat eager to see what would happen next. Some parts towards the end weren’t easy to read, but this author’s talent is amazing and I loved this book. I wish I could award it more than 5 stars and then rediscover the story all over again because it’s so good. I love how we get glimpses of memories from the characters growing up throughout the story and these were some of my favourite moments. This author is new to me and I’ll definitely be reading some of her other books because I’m hooked and need more. Chicks, Man is a definite recommended read!
I love this book! Hannah and Levi are amazing charactersz. This story is sweet, sexy, drama filled, with twists and turns you won’t see coming. A perfect romance that held me captivate until the last page. I highly recommend this book! *Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
I wasn’t expecting this to be so deep. I was expecting a fun, sweet rom-com based on the cover and the blurb. This was so much more.
Levi was dealing with wanting acceptance by his best friend’s family, especially his dad. He looked up on him and aspires to be just like him. Jim Matthews took him in and treat him just like his son, unlike his biological dad. He owe it to them for the person he become now. But there’s one thing threatening him from being killed by his best friend and his dad, which is Hannah Matthews, his best friend’s sister.
Hannah has been in love with Levi Dent ever since she was seven. No matter how much she got bullied and looked down on by their friends. She just wants him to see her. Now on his brother’s wedding, it might just be her chance to finally have Levi even if its for a quick hook-up in a closet. She won’t have to see him again.. But it turns out that her dad have him mentoring her at their legal firm. Would Levi let her go for tricking him into sleeping with her?
Like I said, this was so much more than the title of the book. Hannah was bullied by her brother’s friends even up until she’s an adult. I hated Rebecca with my whole being and I don’t know why Stacey kept her long enough. Definitely in love with the plot line! I’m all in for making a guy jealous (hahah) Did I tell you there’s a whole suspense in this one too?! It was so intriguing that I couldn’t put it down!
Highly recommended!
The story between Hannah and Levi was so good. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. Another great book by Jessica.
4 Stars!!
Having read Ms.Hollyfield’s work before I’ve been so looking forward to picking this one up! This story pulled me in really quickly! I didn’t want to turn away from my kindle. I really enjoyed this story!
From their very memorable beginning to their connection and everything in between, Hannah and Levi’s journey was one of a kind! I loved how these two made me feel all kinds of different things.
I also really liked how this story kept me on my toes throughout reading!
With Chicks, Man, Ms.Hollyfield has created a unique read that will keep you glued to your kindle! This is my favorite book of hers! I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next! (:
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
It’s hard to pass up a brother’s best friend/best friend’s little sister. I really got into this book. I really liked Levi. He’s a little jerky at times, but he wins you over because he feels bad about it as soon he says something. There is one character in this that I wanted to smack a few times. They are the worst type of character, but they offer good angst. Levi and Hannah have great chemistry. It’s hard for Levi to make a move because of his bro code with Kip, but that one night changed everything. This book has a good flow to it which made so easy to gobble it right up.
