A New York Times Bestseller From the author of A Week in Winter and Minding Frankie: a poignant and heartwarming collection of stories centered on the comings and goings of one delightful street in Dublin “Packed with charming takes on people’s quirks and foibles, nosy neighbors and friendly ones. Binchy eloquently exposes and explores relationships between parents and children, husbands and … explores relationships between parents and children, husbands and wives, longtime and recently acquired friends.”—The Boston Globe
Imagined with the humor and understanding that are hallmarks of Maeve Binchy’s storytelling, the world of Chestnut Street captivates us with its joys and sorrows.
Maguire, the window cleaner, must do more than he bargained for in order to protect his son. Nessa Byrne’s aunt visits from America every summer, turning Nessa’s house—and world—upside down. Lilian, a generous girl with a big heart, has a fiancé whom no one approves of. Melly’s gossipy ways help Madame Magic, a self-styled fortune-teller, get everyone on the right track. And Dolly, an awkward young girl, discovers more about her perfect mother than she ever wanted to know.

Never one to disappoint, Maeve Binchy moves the reader into our own dwelling on Chestnut Street where we observe our neighbors from a variety of distances: unobserved through filmy curtains into windows across the street, or up-close-and-personal in private living rooms. Regardless of the view, between the front and back covers of Chestnut Street we share slice after delicious slice of life—joy, sorrow, angst—with our neighbors.
Difficult to follow characters and changes for the different chapters.
I thought this book was a wonderful vacation read. The short stories have connections but you can put it down between the different tales.
One of my favorite authors. Love all her books.
It was not one of my favorites, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
I love all her books. This is no exception.
A good read for fans of Binchy.
I love anything Maeve Binchy wrote!
Maeve Binchy’s books take you right to the heart of Ireland and the Irish folk. Delightful!
I recommend this book only if you are forewarned that it is a series of short stories. I kept waiting for the stories to intermingle and the did not, unlike Tara road that I throughly enjoyed.
I love all her books.
I like anything Maeve Binchy write.
Maeve Binchey provides such honest, thought-provoking glimpses into the nitty-gritties of life with these short stories. With each chapter being its own story, it’s an easy book to read at a leisurely pace, and while it’s a non-demanding read, there’s plenty to ponder upon if one is so inclined.
Short stories. I love Maeve Binchey but just when you get into a story it’s over.
An enjoyable collection of short stories, published after Maeve Binchy’s death. Each story takes place on a street in Dublin — the characters are those whose lives intersect there over time. Some sad and others not—on audio it is a great read.
I enjoyed it very much. Mauve Binchey is one of my favorite authors and I am sadden to think there will be no more of her treasures to come.
Love this author, but found this to be just a series of short stories with a moral.
A great series of short stories with a central character who cannot age because it is Chestnut St. I throughly enjoyed each story. Do not miss this book, i’ Sure you will enjoy it.

This is a collection of short stories, unlike her other books. She does develop each character well but I was unable to to finish the book. There were too many characters.
Like other books of hers I’ve read, the character development and how they all relate is very clever.
