Hannah Swensen and her bakery, The Cookie Jar, bask in the glow of Hollywood glamour when Main Street becomes a movie set. And although tensions simmer as the cameras roll, no one expects the action to turn deadly. . .until it’s too late. . .There’s no such thing as privacy in Lake Eden, but Hannah never thought things would go this far. Everyone has been telling her what to do ever since she … ever since she got not one but two marriage proposals. Movie mania soon shoves Hannah’s marriage dilemma into the background and even gives her cat a shot at stardom. The Cookie Jar serves as snack central with Main Street rented out for the week. She stirs lots of fresh gossip, whipping up treats for cast and crew, including demanding director Dean Lawrence’s favorite–cherry cheesecake.

Has good recipes, no profanity.
Joanna is a great writer and her books are great and the recipes n the books are wonderful. Always a great read.
All Ms. Fluke’s books in this series are easy, entertaining reads. After a couple, you feel like the characters are real people you know:))
This is the eighth book in the series.
Hannah is an amateur sleuth/baker. A movie is going to be made in her little home town. Everyone is excited and her bakery is where all the stars and crew hang out. Soon there is a murder.
This one was just okay to me. Instead of the love triangle there is now a square . Hannah’s beau’s want answer on their proposal, but Ross shows up making it a square. This part was just stupid to me, of course it’s just a book. No real beau would wait around in the real world for you to pick between two of them, one would just bow out.
It was an okay read and there are some recipes I want to try out. Think I will give this series a break for a while as this one just fell flat for me.
Thanks Goodreads for the Kindle version of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Not what they used to be. I’ve read all the books in the series and lately it seems like someone else is writing them
Lake Eden is the home place for a movie, Crisis in Cherrywood. The cookie jar serves as snack central for the movie set. They’ve even rented Main Street out for the set of the movie.
Welcoming the distraction from choosing who to marry( Mike or Norman). Things turn sour when the director Dean Lawrence demonstrates a scene with a prop gun and it goes off killing Dean. Hannah jumps on the case to find out who switched the fake gun for a real one. And who and why would they murder Dean Lawrence.
Cherry cheesecake murder has by far the best recipes of all the books I’ve read so far. This one really had my mouth watering. But setting aside my fat kid tendencies. I do have some ups and downs when it comes to these books.
Hannah is in a love triangle with Norman and Mike so when And old friend from school, Ross, comes rolling in to town along with the film crew. Hannah starts to have feelings and puts the Norman and Mike on the back burner. Marking the love triangle a square. I want to look at Hannah and say “oh no honey what are you doing?” I’m really aiming for Norman at this day in time. Mike just has something about him I don’t like. He’s all over Hannah then he’s 100 yards away the. He’s back up her butt again. Poor Norman it’s like he’s been friend zoned. I have 10 books to go till I find out who Hannah picks and I don’t know if I can wait. #teamnorman At least Hannah has stopped, well, Dialed it down on correcting people’s Word choices. That drove me bonkers.
Our favorite small-town snoop is back as Hollywood invades Lake Eden. As if that’s not bad enough a old friend of Hannah’s from college comes too (Ross). Hannah has to deal with Andrea drama, Mike and Norman jealousy and the way her old college friend makes her feel. When the director of the movie (who can’t keep his hands to himself) is killed Hannah snoops (because investigating is for the police ). What she turns up is the director had more enemies than friends and Mike truly needs her snooping (even if he won’t admit it). Everything changes in this book and if you’ve read the next few books in the series you know exactly what I am talking about.
Another fun visit with Hannah and the residents of Lake Eden. If you’ve read the rest of the series, you know what to expect. I laughed out loud a couple of times and enjoyed narrowing down my suspect list as the tale unfolded. I’ll definitely be picking up the next book to see what Hannah gets mixed up with next.
Read all of her books, looking forward to the next.
With the eighth installment of the Hannah Swensen series, Cherry Cheesecake Murder delivers strong. I was very excited by the story, characters and forward motion in this book.
The introduction of Ross as a new suitor for Hannah could have gone the wrong direction, but Ross combines the great attributes of Mike and Norman into a single man. I’m rooting for Ross to win Hannah’s love; and let’s get real, she needs to make a choice soon.
I’m only saying so because the story dictates her to choose or abandon the current options. I love both Mike and Norman, but to keep dragging them along is painful and also holds Hannah back. I’d be fine if she was perfectly single the entire series, or stopped/started several relationships, but she can’t linger and hold multiple all at the same time for the entire length of the series. I believe it would be too repetitive.
The characters really continue to grow as evidenced by the whole town starting to support Hannah’s investigations — especially her younger sister Michelle getting more involved.
I am excited to read the next installment!
First book by Joanne Fluke I have read and will definitely read all the books in the Hannah Swensen series. Enjoyed all the characters in the book. It was a page turner that I couldn’t put down. Enjoyed all the laugh out loud moments. Great mystery with a surprise ending.
While Hannah tries to deal with the double marriage proposals from Mike and Norman, a Hollywood production company comes to town. However, the director is a jerk, and he is murdered by a rigged prop gun. This is another fun book, although it was slow getting started.
You’ve got to try the title recipe. It’s wonderful!
