The Evergreen Hotel Romance series should be one volume as an anthology, NEVER to be broken up as individual episodes, even at its price. I never EVER would recommend to any writer to do what Ms. Greene has done because I feel she would lose readership on the basis of this “episode” alone. Personally, I would have priced the entire series at $2.99, and it would have sold more copies because it would be more of a complete story. This is a series that MUST be read in order in its entirety because many important details from Episode One are answered in Episode Five.
From an editorial point of view, there are MANY grammatical, punctuational, and misspelling issues in this book (as well as the others). I think the ONLY reason why I continued onward is because of this writer’s different point of view. This isn’t your normal story. Too many readers would object to the cheating themes going on (both guys and girls. At least it’s equality!) mentioned in all the stories. There is the themes of bullying and fat-shaming as well as redemption and all-accepting, too. So if you have any triggers or sticky subjects, you might want to avoid this series.
What did capture my attention is that I haven’t read anything like this before. No, not because of the romance and the hook-ups, but because I’m sure so many Pollyanna reviewers would find much in here objectionable. I see it more representing what modern times can be like (minus COVID-19, of course!). That I found fascinating. An ûber-service hotel to the ûber-rich and famous tucked away in Colorado where those who can buy privacy and mind-blowing amenities and pristine skiing for both the traditional skiers and the snowboarders. And somewhere in the designing of this private resort, someone had the intriguing idea to have housekeeping to be on the more… plump side. Functionally fat? (Look, I’m a BBW, so I am not attempting to fat-shame anyone!) I found this concept to be interesting. And the bosses wants to keep it that way by providing room and board and smörgåsbord to maintain housekeeping’s voluptuousness. Include uniforms to emphasize one’s exceptional curves and you have the sexiest BBW honeys guaranteed to keep your rooms cleaned and fully stocked, whether or not anyone’s residing there. (Go for rooms in the 3000s and 4000s so insist on the upgrades!)
We are introduced to the girls of A-Pod Housekeeping, complete with all their positive and negative energies. Each have her own personal stories complete with all the sh*theads that made her that way. But each have made choices and will be presented with choices that will have an impact on her life. The writer doesn’t make any excuses for the negative aspects of each woman. Why should she? This is real/unreal life, so to speak. Whether not such a resort exist, the writer does address a ton of subjects that could make up an entire psychology class for a semester!
Perhaps that is what I appreciate about this author’s efforts here. Probably the only reason why I didn’t just drop this book and went on to others. In fact, via KU, I read all five episodes currently available at the time of this review because I had to. I had to find out what happened.
I did not appreciate the precipitous cliffhanger in Episode One. Lucky for me I still had four more books to go which I cleared out in less than five hours total. I would have had a real editor review this to clean up what needed cleaning up. I would have changed this to an anthology at the very beginning because that would be the only way to maintain readership of such a fascinating storyline. I would hope the writer would do so quickly. Get this on KU until that happens. (Episode Three makes it all worth it!)
This little book was very good.. To me this book has a very slow burn. I have a feeling the next book would be heating things up a bit. I also thought it was weird because a hotel that only hired curvy women is kinda weird. But that is just me.
Book 1 of the new series Evergreen Hotel. This book is a great start to an awesome series. She’s new and a virgin. She meets other people working the 4 months and soon things start getting hot and steamy with Luke. He works in the kitchen at the hotel and was heartbroken until he meets Emily. I received a free arc copy of the book and I am leaving an voluntary honest review.
This is a well written book with strong characters and a cute story line. The author moves it quickly and smoothly filling it with suspense and intrigue and leaves you wanting more with the cliffhanger ending. I enjoyed reading and am looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
He has a broken heart and she is coming in as a house keeper. She is at the hotel there that cater to the very rich and powerful and will be there for a few months. But little does she know besides her job the other staff have plans to add on to that. He is the chef and had his heart broken from the girl before her. What a fun, intriguing, suspenseful, very emotional read. I recommend it. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
I got this early on – without the complete title and with a different cover. I didn’t realize that this is a very short novel and has a part 2!
The book was good and slowly gets readers hooked even with its short read. The characters are likable though not sure if they are believable since the pacing was too fast to “trust” so many new people in a day, etc.
My biggest problem is the ending.
It felt very forced or maybe it’s to hook readers to continue to part 2 of a short read. I tried to understand but I guess the author wanted to just write about 1 day in the life of Emily and Luke. I am not a fan of cliffhangers but would have been okay if it passed a bit longer, like waking up the next day, before hanging readers. I do not like how this all turned out.
Chef’s Favorite (Evergreen Hotel book 1) by Ava Greene is a very short story and a cliffhanger, a read in order type of book. More like an introduction to the Evergreen Hotel series which sounds pretty good. The only way I can describe this book is when you go to the ice scream story and they give you a tinny spoon with a sample of their new flavor that only gives you a hint of the flavors to come if you buy a scoop of it. Yeah, just like that. It gives you a peek of what to come. The story line is good and now I want to know what happens to the two main characters.
So for some reason I read these two Chef’s books backwards.
With that said, it’s probably a good thing because had I read this one first, I wouldn’t have even used my KU membership to borrow the second one after reading this.
There is nothing “Steamy” nor “Alpha” about these series like the cover suggest.
Emily is a pushover, who lacks so much self-confidence in herself.
Luke is constantly described as being “nice” and “gentle” and “sweet”…okay I get it, but where’s the alpha part come it?!?
And I know I mentioned this in my review for the second book already, but what the hell is the deal with using CUTE to describe Emily. If I’m a bigger woman lacking self-confidence I don’t want people to use a word that most people would use to describe babies to me!
There is no character development at all. The only thing we know about these girls is that they are all “bigger” women who Emily describes as being beautiful and sometime model type beauty.
Emily is a young curvy woman who has just gotten her first job and has just become friends with women she is not familiar with but they are so nice and want to help protect her from the unknown. The Evergreen Hotel is a 5star hotel and they are expected to do whatever is necessary to satisfy the customers if not they need to refer them to managment. She is intructed by her friends whom all are curvy women too. she was instructed to never go anywhere in the hotel alone. Rachel who has been at the hotel for 7yrs. introduces her to everything and everyone. Series. Story line is interesting. characters seem interesting. I was given a copy as a gift from author without obligation. I am providing an honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book, I voluntarily chose to review it, This is the first book I have read by Ava Greene. This is one author I will be giving a chance, I wasn’t sure I would like this story but I was willing to give it a chance. I will encourage everyone to do the same. This one isn’t a quick easy read for me. Keep an open mind when you start this one it is worth your time. I don’t do spoilers so go check this one out.
Emily is about to start a four month seasonal job as a housekeeper at a well known ski hotel. As she is on the shuttle heading to the hotel she meets two other housekeepers and they take her under their wings. They plan on showing ropes of season. But when she shows an interest in one of the chefs, the girls plan on helping her have a seasonal romance.
Luke is the sous chef for the ski hotel. He just kind of recently broke up the girl that he was dating that worked at hotel the season before. But that does not stop the girls from trying to get him together with Emily. The more time is spends with Emily the more he likes her. But will they have the seasonal romance they both want or will surprise pop up?
I really liked this book. I could not put it down once I started reading it. And then there was the cliff hanger. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I recommend this book to others.
