You should never fall in love with a flyer. You should only be in love with flight. That’s the rule that Roxy Loewen – aviatrix, and protégé of the great Amelia Earhart – always lives by. Until she falls hard for fellow pilot Jocco Zomack and he leads her into a whole heap of trouble. From African skies to a cellar in Madrid, from the Berlin Olympics to the last flight of the Hindenburg, from gun … Hindenburg, from gun running to the heist of the century, Roxy is just one step ahead of the Nazis – and one loop-de-loop from disaster.
“A barrel-rolling barn-burner of a book! Roxy’s got a tender heart with a steel jacket, and the skill and courage to bring her in on a wing and a prayer. A good thing, because this girl doesn’t pack a parachute.” —Diana Gabaldon

What a truly splendid read!
I loved Roxy. She had fire, she had guts, and most of all, she had determination and an ability to go on in the face of danger. This woman’s characterization was brilliant.
The writing was fantastic. I was moved several times throughout the novel – this means the writer had me by the throat emotionally – which takes talent. I loved the images of Germany prior to the war. I felt the tension, and enjoyed the build up of conflict (and the twists) as we moved closer to the end. It’s quite obvious Mr. Humphreys did his research without it ever entering into info-dump territory.
Overall, a masterpiece. I’d recommend C.C. Humphreys to all readers!
CC Humphreys writes with a theatrical flare. Reading his novels is like going back in time and becoming a part of history.
Did not enjoy this book as much as I had hoped, being an aviation enthusiast.
I guess if you like thrillers, it is a good book, it is just not too much my cup of tea. I thought it would have dealt more with women or a particular woman being part of the air force or a pilot, etc.
Really loved this book! (Not that I don’t love ALL C.C. Humphreys’s books…) A terrific heroine, tense setting (Africa, Germany, WWII) and a wild adventure with solid emotion at the bottom of it.
A great read from beginning to end, character was a strong voice for women, and adventurous!
Good characters and good historical fiction.
I was hoping it dealt more with flying, but the story was okay, not sure I liked it well enough to recommend it, but well enough that I finished it.
Good book. Love spunky female characters not afraid to kick some butt.
I love reading about women pilots. Women doing things ahead of their time. Loved Amelia Earhart was a part of this adding historic info to the exciting and informative plot.
Interesting, woman flyer, I did not think I would especial like the book. I found the book to take me back to the time of Amelia Earhart. and the early fliers. The author takes you back to the early times and I liked it remembering some history going on at the time. Not predictable, like the where am I being taken now. Read it. Looking for more of the heroine
Unbelievable characters, action, and storyline.
Terrible opening chapter, but nice rebound in a well imagined story.
Great history!
A hold-onto-your-seats aerial display with the throttle open all the way.
Has everything a historical fiction reader could want. The suspense is wonderful; the writing is sure and confident; and the dialogue is witty and fast paced. I was completely engrossed from the very beginning.
