Young CIA officer Talia Inger has reconciled with the man who assassinated her father, but that doesn’t mean she wants him hovering over her every move and unearthing the painful past she’s trying to put behind her. Still, she’ll need him–and the help of his star grifter, Valkyrie–if she hopes to infiltrate the Jungle, the first ever crowdsourced crime syndicate, to rescue a group of kidnapped … kidnapped refugee children.
But as Talia and her elite team of thieves con their way into the heart of the Jungle, inching ever closer to syndicate boss the White Lion, she’ll run right up against the ragged edge of her family’s dark past. In this game of cat and mouse, it’s win . . . or die. And in times like that, it’s always good to have someone watching your back.
Former tactical deception officer and stealth pilot James Hannibal takes you deep undercover into the criminal underworld where everyone has an angle and no one escapes unscathed.

Fans of movies like Now You See Me and Oceans Eleven with complicated plots and slight of hand will enjoy James R. Hannibal’s books.
In Chasing the White Lion, the team is on a mission to infiltrate the crowd sourced crime syndicate. This first involves getting an invitation and gets more complicated from there. CIA Agent Talia Inger has a more personal investment to find some missing children at the request of her foster sister.
Throughout the adventure, the team travels the globe, outsmarts the competition, and deals with their personal quandaries. The members of this group of reformed criminals (with the exception of Talia) are memorable and often times good for a chuckle. And the faith message is woven well throughout with a team that contains a couple of believers and even more skeptics.
Hannibal’s book is one I can easily see adapted to the big screen and I’m hoping we see more from him and team Talia Inger.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Chasing the White Lion is the second installment from the Talia Inger series by James R Hannibal. Even though it is part of the series, I believe it can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed the first book, The Gryphon Heist, and I enjoyed this one even more. It is full of action packed adventure and suspense filled mystery. I was sitting on the edge of my seat throughout. I had it read in one sitting.
I am giving Chasing the White Lion four and a half stars. I am hoping there will be more coming from the Talia Inger series in the near future.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Suspense is a great way to spend a couple of hours. With James R. Hannibal’s second novel in the Talia Inger’s series, Chasing the White Lion, Hannibal definitely delivers. With fast chasing across the globe to hunt for missing children, Talia and her troop of misfits sweep up the mischief and mayhem. With th first novel, The Gryphon Heist, I really loved how he crafted together the least likely bunch of criminals to create a family who seeks for justice. Hannibal throws in a little bit of spiritual lesson too for the fans of redemptive stories, but nothing to preachy. Only one litte scene. But boy, does it make an impact. The final climactic moment in the last twenty percent of the novel has a Hunger Games feel to it. A chase through mazes against some of the worst criminals in the market. Overall, Chasing the White Lion is a memorizing addition to the series, and I honestly can’t wait to see what tasks Hannibal allows Talia to venture into next.
I received a complimentary copy of Chasing the White Lion by James R. Hannibal from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Talia is a CIA agent who is undercover in Russia. She is supposed to meet a contact with valuable information and talents. But what Talia isn’t aware of is that her cover is blown, and she’ll be lucky to make it out in one piece! Some of the characters readers meet in book one, The Gryphon Heist, might be seen in this second installment. When you read it, let me know what you found out!
Be prepared for a fast-moving tale that crosses the globe and meeting new players along the way, both good folks and not good. The author did a good job of reminding folks a little of what came before for Talia and what she learned from her experiences then. Talia is a believer who wants others to know God too so there is part of that in the tale.
The author did a fantastic job of having a plethora of threads in the plot. It was fun to see how the author was going to bring the various threads together, and what a masterpiece revealed! Some of the book reminded me of James Bond type adventures, so readers of suspense will absolutely become engrossed in the book.
Talia is plagued by past memories and must either learn to quiet them or face them. Like an onion, the excitement peals back layers of twists and turns in the plot that I didn’t see until it happened. Here is a great series with solid characters and an element of faith that adds to the tale not overwhelm it. But the book is not all suspense; there are moments of humor that let a reader breathe before the whirlwind stirs up again as soon as a person turns the page!
Don’t miss Chasing the White Lion or the Gryphon Heist, which started the action off!
.
This book was sooo good! I was glued to it as Mr. Hannibal took us on a journey from Russia, DC, and other locations. I had to know how it would all turn out.
Not to mention his cast of secondary characters (aka the merry band of reformed criminals) are a hoot! Their snark and back-and-forth engagement left me chuckling. But Mr. Hannibal also gets real and shares the importance of Christ and why people accept the gift He so richly offers. I tell you one scene in here relating to this was absolutely golden. Pure genius!
If you haven’t read Mr. Hannibal, don’t miss out. This series is a must read and Chasing the White Lion was better than book 1!

Characters: The characters were one of my favorite things about this book. They all had their own unique personalities, and that led to some entertaining conflict between them. I also liked seeing them learn how to work together. I would love to see more books about them!
Language: Clean.
Moral: This book’s main theme was trusting God. There was also the theme of trusting others to help you when you need it, but this book didn’t put those people in the place of God (as in some books I’ve read).
Plot: The plot was my other favorite thing about this book. Chasing the White Lion had adventure, suspense, creative plot scenarios, powerful villains, and even a tiny hint of romance.
Romance: Clean. I enjoyed that the romance was just a hint and didn’t take over the whole plot.
Writing: James Hannibal’s writing fit this story well. His style is clear, descriptive enough to allow the reader to see what’s going on without getting bogged down in details, and fast-paced.
Overall: Chasing the White Lion was a great read, and I’m hoping there will be a third book in the series. I’d recommend this book to readers who enjoy Christian fiction, suspense, and action/adventure.
After reading this action packed book I got the other one in this series. I highly recommend this writer and hope he has another one coming out soon.
James R. Hannibal knows what he’s writing about and that is obvious. He takes the reader into a world of intrigue and horror without being graphic or over the top. Chasing the White Lion is full of twists and turns and keeps pulling the reader through. An author to watch
I knew I would read* Chasing the White Lion as soon as I finished The Gryphon Heist. This series is fast-paced and action-packed. I like the larger than life personalities and unique skill sets Hannibal has given his characters. In order to appreciate the cohesiveness of the team and to understand how all the players fit together, you have to read the books in order. I’ll admit that I questioned the plausibility of some events (much like I do when I’m watching James Bond or Mission Impossible movies), but that’s part of the draw of this genre. If you enjoy stories that include close combat, narrow escapes, exotic locations, and futuristic gadgets, Chasing the White Lion is for you.
*Since summertime means a lot of chores around the farm, I opted for the audiobook. Mia Barron’s narration was spot on. You’ll always know who’s talking and what’s going on.
I’ve had this book a while and I just haven’t been able to get into it. I found that I can’t get interested in it, from the blurb, to friends’ reviews and thoughts, and talking with them and they said that I would, the cover has me intrigued, I just haven’t read much of this as I just can’t get into it.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
What a fun series! Picking up where The Gryphon Heist left off, Chasing the White Lion gives readers more action and excitement with Talia, Tyler and the rest of their mismatched crew of con artist and grifters. If you like over-the- top action and plot twists, this novel is for you.
Chasing the White Lion has some pretty intricate and elaborate high stake cons. Talia teams up with Tyler again, not sure if she can trust him. The group tries to infiltrate a crime ring by conning their way up the ranks, which lands them in a life-or-death competition called The Jungle. And things definitely get crazy in the Hunger Games-style Jungle. Of course, they are up against the clock, working to rescue children from a human trafficking ring while trying to keep Talia alive after it’s clear that someone wants her dead.
Things I love in a novel: action, suspense, super-quirky characters, intricate plots, spies and computer geeks. This story has all of my favorites – so definitely 5 stars from me. Definitely check out The Gryphon Heist first as you will want to read this series in order.

Chasing The White Lion
By: James R. Hannibal
REVIEW
I loved The Gryphon Heist, so I was thrilled to receive a second book by James R. Hannibal. Talia and company are back in Chasing The White Lion, and they don’t disappoint. This ensemble cast are excellent together with their witty dialogue and positive group dynamic. There is an underlying theme of family and faith, the kind of family you find along the way. It’s really great to see! The story is not exactly character driven, though, because the action is quick and amazing, and the situations are tense and dramatic. Basically, this book has everything, and it’s possibly better than Gryphon. I can’t decide, but either way, Chasing The White Lion is a winner!
Oh, my word! Another amazing book by James R. Hannibal. Revisiting the characters ushered me back into my favorite crime family. Each character is so unique and special and endearing. The plot was off the chain. And now I want to sponsor a child through Compassion International. Really hoping for more in this series, although this book had a perfect ending.
Wow! What an amazing, action filled suspense novel! The author, James Hannibal, has an incredible background and uses that plus an intense imagination to produce such a novel. One part I especially loved was he was able to work with Compassion International to use their name and highlight what they do for children as an integral part of the book.
This novel is the second with CIA officer Thalia Inger and I would recommend reading the previous book, The Gryphon Heist, before reading this one. There are a lot of characters and background that are challenging enough to keep track of so don’t read them out of sequence. And the book moves so rapidly you don’t want to have to spend time trying to figure out who’s who.
I really loved this book and highly recommend it if you like suspenseful, clean, Christian fiction. I couldn’t put it down! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I am freely writing a review – all thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Chasing the White Lion” by author James R. Hannibal is a story of twists, turns and mysteries. I did not realize that “The Gryphon Heist” was the first book that I should have read to understand and follow the story line and characters in the second book. This book is not my style of reading, if one likes James Bond or Tome Clancy than this one is for you.
I received a copy from Revell Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion.
“Chasing the White Lion,” by James R. Hannibal is in a category by itself. This odyssey of Talia Inger and her crew is extremely well thought out in a way that appeals to the adventurer inside of each of us. There is plenty of action blended with humor in a way that keeps the reader turning pages and cheering on the amazing cast of characters. Mr. Hannibal brilliantly wraps this tale around one of the leading criminal and social concerns of our time bringing the reader to a new awareness.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
If you are looking for a thriller with plenty of espionage and secrecy in the government, and thrills and chases, then this is a read for you.
In a time of human trafficking and big money and coverups, CIA officer Talia is bent on getting to the truth: on who is trying to kill her, protecting her family, and saving a little girl and her classmates whom she has not event met- but she is willing to risk her life just the same.
This series puts me in the mind of the TV show Covert Affairs. Yes mainly because of the CIA, but both have a young woman as the main character. I enjoyed that show when it was on and I have really been enjoying this series as well. The big difference, and the one I like the most, is that Talia has faith in God. In fact she even gets baptized in this story. What could have turned into a preachy lesson did not. The author handled the faith dimension well by showing it as the basis for everything Talia does. It is intriguing to me to read about a spy that has that solid bedrock faith in her God.
I do wish their was more of a romantic aspect in this story. I am kind of wondering if certain things are being hinted at yet. I am not sure. So I will wait and see.
I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
James Hannibal has done it again. The page turning follow up to The Gryphon Heist doesn’t disappoint. Like any great sequel, the gang is reunited and in fine form as they try to catch a traitor, save trafficked children and live to enjoy another of Conrad’s mouth-watering meals. The ensemble cast is built around a more mature Talia Inger, now learning she has a team to rely on, despite none of them having a trustworthy bone in their bodies. This is what happens when an assassin hires a thief, a chemist, a grifter, and a getaway pilot or driver with services that usually go to the highest bidder. Pure, heart pounding escapism that’ll leave you equally relieved and entertained.
Have you read The Gryphon Heist by James R. Hannibal? If so, you are ready to continue to wild adventures of Talia Inger and her co-horts in the recently released book, Chasing the White Lion.
In The Gryphon Heist, readers meet fledgling CIA agent Talia Inger just as she joins the force and goes on her first big adventure full of intrigue and page-turning action. In this second book, Inger has a few months worth of experience and a few ops under her belt. The same elite group of thieves and agents make up this book’s adventures as the first book. All of the action in these books left me feeling just like I was watching a James Bond type movie within my mind–Hannibal does a great job with description and pacing. I also enjoyed the cast of characters and how they worked together. I liked that their personalities really came through in Chasing the White Lion. I especially liked learning about Finn and Valkyrie and how they ended up in their lines of work. They became more likeable characters in this book. Talia faces more of her past and her future, both with her newfound faith through this story. I liked seeing her turn to God and pray more. In the first book I guessed who killed her father, but in this book, I would not have guessed who the evil Archangel was. This second book ties up a lot of the loose ends from the first book.
One thing that made Chasing the White Lion even better for me was that Hannibal featured Compassion children and the struggle with human trafficking. We sponsor a Compassion child so I liked that aspect of this plot since it draws attention to both a need and how loved those children are. On the flip side, it is heartbreaking to think that human trafficking still goes on but we know it does and Hannibal also reminds the reader of that. I highly recommend you read both books in this series if you like suspense books.

Chasing the White Lion
Talia Inger #2
By James R. Hannibal
Talia Inger finds herself once again working with Adam Tyler and not necessarily by choice. But he and his crew of cons and thieves somehow keep showing up where she is. But when her foster sister approaches her with a potential human trafficking situation involving kidnapped refugee children she needs Tyler and the skills his crew offers.
But to save these children they will have to infiltrate a crime syndicate – one known as the Jungle. The boss known only as the White Lion potentially has links to her past and her father’s death. But nothing is as it seems and time is not on their side in this game of “kill or be killed.”
Chasing the White Lion is a suspense-filled read that continues Talia Inger’s story that the reader was introduced to in The Gryphon Heist. ow if you haven’t read the first book you can still enjoy this book easily with just a bit of backstory missing. Talia is learning that she can’t lean on just herself and her skills developed as a CIA officer. Trust is a major underlying factor throughout and with the various characters trust is not easily given. If you are looking to escape into a world of intrigue, adventure, and betrayal this is a perfect read for you. This book doesn’t shy away from murder and crimes but it doesn’t go into graphic or morbid detailing. Overall I’d say this is a good read and would recommend it to many readers.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion – all thoughts expressed are my own.
