I didn’t want the story to end even though a novella. The author brings out the thinking, wonder and hopes of the story. The two main characters are wonderful together like melting two souls into one. She is determined to be acknowledged for her talent. He struggles to escape nightmares of war. There are other situations to overcome but none so important as the coming together as one. The sensual moments are beautifully depicted. The story is so witty, humorous and well written
holding the attention. Atmosphere is timely and placed expertly. On to the next story.
Very well written. The characters have undeniable chemistry and were enjoyable to read together as well as separately. I also loved the two aunts, they’re definitely not your usual regency aunts!

I loved this story about Lady Camille Bellington who accepts a marriage proposal from a Baron, to save her childhood home. She intends marrying for duty not love. There is only one man she loves and she believes he is out of her reach.
He is Tristan Tierney, Duke of Mercer and is her brother’s best friend.
Tristan is a war hero who suffers PTSD (but it wasn’t called that back then.)
He believes that he can never marry because of the nightmares he has every night. His father has died and Tristan returns to his ancesteral home and discovers that he actually loves Camille Bellington, who was a tag-a-long pest when he and her brother Edward were young friends.
This is a delightful romp and I enjoyed it immensely.
4.5 Stars
Chasing The Duke is an absolutely adorable historical romance read. Once I started it, I could not put it down. I loved Tristan and his grumpy self and could not stop myself from loving Camille and her sassy mouth. This book is a treat especially if you are a fan of best friend’s little suster, kind of sort if enemies to lovers romance reads. I’m giving Chasing The Duke the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval. TBR and Enjoy!
Chasing The Duke is a fabulous historical romance by Tracy Sumner. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Sumner has provided readers with a well-written story complete with a fantastic cast of characters. Camille has sworn to never, ever, ever chase a duke again. Tristan, Duke of Mercer, had hurt her once and she was determined to not repeat it. Camille and Tristan’s story is packed with drama, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed reading Chasing The Duke and look forward to my next book by Tracy Sumner. Chasing The Duke is book 7 of the 12 Days of Christmas Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
A truly unique love story – one that if you told your friends, they’d never believe you. And this tale proves that men and women are nothing alike, especially when it comes to love and relationships. Yet it seems that in this story, a bit of luck and interference from friends and family appear to help Tristan realize what he truly wants from life. You also get plenty of drama too from the ton about bluestockings knowing their place, one that Camille will never bow down to. The author wrote a very strong female character in Camille and loved how she stuck to her guns throughout the book. Yet at times I felt the story lagged. Also Tristan, for showing signs of PTSD appears to have recovered quickly. Maybe he was only mildly affected by the war?

Chasing the Duke is part of the Twelve Days of Christmas series by various authors. This one is by Tracy Sumner. It’s a ‘best friend’s sister’/second chance relationship that is charming, funny, and downright steamy. Tris, the duke, is a charming, witty soldier back from Waterloo and hailed as a hero. However, he doesn’t feel much like a hero, like most men returned from war. He suffers from PTSD and is ready to settle down and take his place in society. Camilla is the sister of Tris’ best friend. They practically grew up together, so when he starts to see her as a charming and beautiful young woman, he’s not sure how he’s supposed to behave. Camilla has loved Tris all her life, but is resigned to marry another man to insure the security of her family. And this is where the fun begins. I loved the characters and their chemistry was fantastic. It’s a short story, which is its only drawback. I wanted more of their story. I wanted more banter. I wanted her brother to do more than sit back and be smug. And her fiance, I wanted to know what happened with him and his mother. It’s a quick read with great dialogue. I only wish it was longer.
This is my first book by Author Tracy Sumner, and let me tell you, it won’t be my last!
Chasing The Duke is a perfect mix of friendship, love, laughter, enemies to lovers, and of course, let’s not forget the HEAT!
I really enjoyed this book, especially lady Camille!
I can’t wait to read more!!!
Men returning from war can be damaged mentally or physically. Some never recover but some with love, family, and time do.
Camille Bellington, Lady Isabel Fontaine neice, is a botanist, trying to keep her family estate going. She recently proposed to Viscount Ridley to help save it and he accepted.
Tristan Tierney, the fifth Duke of Mercer, friend to her brother and long time crush has finally return from the war.
Lady Contains play mischief matchmaker knowing Camille has lived Tristan most of her life. She, herself has defied the rule s. Now wanting and giving permission for Camille to do the same.
Follow along on this Christmas maybe in jont as the two find ways to snipe, one-up, and relieve nightmares. With great characters, descriptive scenery, and seduction
Tracy Sumner brings us a well written, delightful and fun love story with Christmas feels, passion and romance.
I really loved the characters. Camille was intelligent, witty, sweet, intriguing and a botanist in her own right under an assumed name of course as women weren’t recognized to hold such positions. Tristan is noble, honorable and still a fun loving tease. Camille Bellington has loved Tristan Tierney all her life. But in the absence of love returned she has returned to her home in the country betrothed to another. Tristan has returned from 3 years at war a changed man. He now suffers from what we know as PTSD and while he wants Camille as his own but feels inadequate an unworthy of her. So who chases who? The witty, teasing banter between the two was delightful. This was a quick and fun story.
Thanks Ms. Sumner for this delightful story.
Tristan and Camille have known each other most of their lives, but he went off to war and she was left to make her own way. When she completes her “season” with an engagement to a man she likes but doesn’t love, Camille thinks she can help her Aunt who raised her and will live a contented life. But when Tristin returns, things change, old feelings come back, and also fears. Well written, though somewhat predictable, but overall an enjoyable romance.
Chasing the Duke – Tracy Sumner – I won an advanced copy of this book during the holidays, and I had these lofty goals of reading the series in order. When I started sorting through my unread tbr pile, I hit this one. I love Regency romance at Christmas because I’m a dorky closet romantic, and this is right up my alley. I will be revisiting this series next Christmas with pleasure! Happy Reading!
Regency/historical romance is not usually a favorite genre of mine- mostly because it seems the authors spend too much time on wordy descriptions. This book, however, was well-written and well-paced. Though hedged with strict societal expectations, Camille is strong and true to herself. Tristan is fighting his memories of Waterloo and trying to find his footing upon his return to society. Their “dance” is emotional but ultimately satisfying.
I received a free Advance Review Copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
I just loved Camille’s independence in the days when you waited to be courted and wed then attend tea parties or sewing bees. Tristian is back from the war but Camille has tried to harden her heart to him by promising to wed another to save her home. Tristian is finally waking up to seeing Camille as a woman and it scares him to death even worse than the war. It was nice to read about a woman being able to choose her life before it was her even allowed. Good story!
I am not a historical romance reader but was given the opportunity to read Chasing the Duke. I loved it. Not comparing it to the latest Netflix phenomenon but this book will keep you in the spirit of Dukes. Camille has loved Tristan from afar for as long as she can remember. After all, he has been part of her family since he is her brother’s best friend. Now that she has an intended and ready to be married, Tristan has finally noticed the woman she has become. This story is great to read before bed and easy to fall into.
“Chasing The Duke” is a steamy Regency Romance by Tracy Sumner, and is Book 7 of 12 in the 12 Days of Christmas series. It is a stand-alone book and has no cliff hanger, only an HEA.
My favorite part of the book is the character development. I particularly love the two main characters,
–Camille Bellington and Tristan Tierney. Camille is a witty young woman who has just completed her London season, returning to her country home with a betrothal to a man whom she does not love. But she likes him well enough to marry him and save her childhood home for her aunt who has raised her since her parents death. Camille is beautiful, independent, a bit of a blue stocking who cherishes botany, and has only loved one man since she was a child.
—Tristan Tierney, the 5th Duke of Mercer, is a war hero who has been away from home for years. He is a scarred, changed man who suffers from nightmares, cannot tolerate loud sudden noises, and no longer feels he can fit in with the society he once knew. He is jaded, hardened and disillusioned. But when he sees that his best friend’s little sister is all grown up and intriguingly beautiful. When the two come together during the Christmas season, the barbs, teases, insults and sparks will fly.
The plot is simple, friends and second chances at romance. Camille spent her young life chasing the Duke, but no more. Now, who will do the chasing?
This book contains steamy, swoon worthy scenes that are delightful! I could the book to be a quick, fun read.
I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy, and am quite happy to leave this review voluntarily. My thanks to Book Sirens and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
I love a good historical romance. To be swept into a time where chivalry is not dead and a women is swept off her feet… of course it is also a time when woman think they should be seen and not heard and to marry so not to become an old maid and that is exactly what Lady Camille is doing she is marrying to save her family until Tristan makes a reappearance on her life and all things change. Loved the characters in this book and the writing was excellent. I think I will have to read more by this author.
Camille will do anything to save her home, even marry someone she does not love.
Tristan, her brothers best friend and her true love, comes home from the war.
While he remembers Camille as a little girl, he can’t believe how she turned into a beautiful woman.
Will Tristan act on his attraction towards his best friend’s sister.
A story of unrequited love in this historical romance. A fun story plot for this era. A good story that has some great secondary characters too. A quick read.
A quick read that brought me back to one of my favorite genres. A well written friends to lovers romance with all the wonders of the regency era with a Christmas setting.
