Six years ago, I had a best friend with sky-blue eyes, purposefully messy brown hair, and a body that made every single girl drool on sight. I would know—it drove me absolutely crazy…until I was the one doing the drooling. Our days were filled with stomach-hurting laughter accompanied by easy conversation, and our nights were filled with secret, awkward teenage flirting. But that was when Dawson … that was when Dawson was just my best friend. Nothing more, nothing less.
And then… it was more.
It’s a memory I pretend to see through blurry eyes, hazed by passing years of no communication. The one night that my heart was suddenly soaring through the starry night, only to catch fire as it rapidly descended seconds later.
Six years was a long time to get my heart under control. A lot has changed, and yet here I am, still drooling over Dawson—my ex best friend.

Ivy and Dawson are a true testament to soulmates and the saying “if it’s meant to be, it will be.” This sweet couple had go through some major stuff to make it to their HEA. Reading all the back & forth was agonizing at times because I wanted all the happiness for this couple. The wait and the slow burn was WELL WORTH IT! Chasing Ivy is a perfect friends to lovers story that truly showcases the power of love and all it can endure.
This is the first book that I’ve read by SJ Sylvis, and while this was just alright to me, I would definitely consider other books by her.
Chasing Ivy started out pretty strong. I loved high school Dawson and Ivy. They became best friends, but harbored stronger feelings for each other. An awful event caused Ivy to move away at the end of her sophomore year of high school. Later, they reunite and discover their feelings are still there.
This is when the book kind of took a downward slide for me. I didn’t feel like they had matured all that much (and after everything that Ivy had been through, I really had hope that she had matured). I didn’t like the 180 that Breanna made. It was sudden and I really thought it was disingenuous. I also felt like there was a lot of unresolved issues with Dawson’s parents.
I am probably in the minority here, but timelines are extremely important to me. I know it may seem like a little thing, but if Ivy moved away when she was 15, and six years later returned, wouldn’t that make her 21? Maybe 22 if it was a little more than 6 years? But she was 23 when she returned. I know, so simple, but it really annoyed me. Like, I cringed every time it was mentioned that they hadn’t seen each other in six years.
Again, I see promise with SJ Sylvis as an author. I will certainly consider other books for her.
5 Stars
Okay so this is a slow burn, second chance love story… And i loved it!
Ivy was such a sweet girl and i loved that you start the book with reading about their past and you just couldnt stop falling in love with her from the beggining.
Ivy and Dawson is ment for each other and everybody knows it but misunderstading and complications split them up in the end, and belive me your heart will bleed with them/for them. But as i was saying this is a slow burn and it was really a loong slow burn! I mean i do not have that much patience and in the end all i wanted was to jump in the book to shake and scream a little at them so they could just get together and be perfect like they were ment to be!! But of course i had to suffer with them through the book and keep being filled with passion, sadness, love and heartbreak. And then S.J Sylvis do the unexpected (i will not reveal what, but just read the book.) and then BAM what a twist i mean i finally thought they were there..
Read this book you will not be sorry. It had me feeling everything one time or another. I was sad, then next i was laughing, then i got angry, and then i could hear and feel my heart breaking. What a rollercoaster but it was so worth it
