From the New York Times bestselling author of The Mountain Between Us comes a powerful story about fishing, baseball, home cooking, and other matters of life and death . . .“Martin understands the power of story and he uses it to alter the souls and lives of both his characters and his readers . . .” –Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times bestselling authorThey have one summer to find what was … York Times bestselling author
They have one summer to find what was lost long ago.
“Never settle for less than the truth,” she told him.
On a stifling summer day, an old Chevy Impala ignored the warning signals and was annihilated by the oncoming train. What no one realized until much later was that the driver had paused just before entering the tracks and kicked a small boy out of the car. A small boy with broken glasses who is clutching a notebook with all his might . . . but who never speaks.
Chase Walker was one of the lucky ones. He was in foster care as a child, but he finally ended up with a family who loved him and cared for him. Now, as a journalist for the local paper, he’s moved on and put the past behind him.
But when he’s assigned the story of this young boy, painful, haunting questions about his own childhood begin to rise to the surface.
And as Chase Walker discovers, learning the truth about who you are can be as elusive–and as magical–as chasing fireflies on a summer night.
” C]olorful, memorable characters; Southern regional flavor that’s drop-dead accurate; and lyrical, intelligent writing make Chasing Fireflies an exceptionally good read.” —Aspiring Retail

I love Charles Martin books. Sometimes they start slow but once you’re in, you’re in for the long haul. This book is one I didn’t want to put down. It is a great reminder of who we are and how God sees us. You won’t be disappointed in reading this one.
well writen book. couldn’t put it down. this book really grabbed me. every one should read this book.
Of all the books I’ve read by Charles Martin, this was my least favorite. I LOVE the way he writes but this one was difficult to follow.

Didn’t have that ending figured out!! Really intriguing!
I recommend anything Charles Martin has written. This is no expetion.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!
When I worked in a school cafeteria, I was around several foster children. I would often wonder about their lives.
This is a story (fiction ) about a foster child who grew up to become a newspaper writer , then he searches for the parents of a new foster boy.
Good story
Hard to get into at first but I forged ahead because having read “When Crickets Cry” I knew it had to be good. There was a lot of history and it made me anxious to get on with the story and it did go back and forth in time a lot. It’s so good. I’ll definitely be following this author.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. Incredible characters, especially Unc.
I have loved every Charles Martin book that I have read and this no exception.
Loved this book and have loved every book I have read by Charles Martin!
Charles Martin’s novels are almost poetry in the beauty and depth of truth and emotions he portrays with words. I know of no other author who writes like he does. Chasing Fireflies has everything — suspense, tragedy, love in its truest sense, great characters and compelling story. I hated to see the story end. Thank you, Charles Martin, for …
I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this book at first, but there were so many interesting side plots that kept me intrigued. A wonderful writer, a sad story of so many hurting people who made the most of life under difficult circumstances. It really made you stop and think about what is truly important in this life.
Charles Martin’s writing is very good and captivating. This book was not my favorite by him, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.
The back cover copy of this book doesn’t do it justice — trauma, love, discovery, loss, redemption, and so much love. Martin knows how to give you just enough info to get you hooked, then he pulls you in for the story. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars — there’s a lot of info that’s interesting (baseball, illness, etc.) but some of it …
This book delves into true human nature and relationships, engaging you in each character.
