For fans of Pamela Clare’s acclaimed I-Team and Colorado High Country series… Brandon Silver, and the rest of Scarlet FD put their lives on the line to save the town and its citizens. But the one thing Hawke hadn’t planned for was bureaucratic red tape and waffling from higher-ups that could turn this crisis into a catastrophe. When his requests for support go unheeded, he’s faced with the prospect of watching the town he loves burn to ashes.
But sometimes help comes from unexpected places.
Marc Hunter, Julian Darcangelo, and Zach McBride are in the mountains above Scarlet Springs for an interagency training exercise when they see a single wisp of smoke to the west. What begins as a fun day of playing cops and bad guys soon becomes a battle against time, as they join forces with Hawke and members of the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team to save friends trapped by the fire.
Together, they pit their strength and courage against a terrifying and unforgiving force of nature. Will it be enough? Or will the ravenous flames claim lives—and leave the people of Scarlet Springs forever scarred?

When the first responders of Scarlet Springs notice the first plume of smoke, tensions immediately ramp up and the men and women snap to attention. What follows is a nail-biting, on the edge of your seat, action-packed ride as everyone, from simply residents, to different responders (hot shots, smoke jumpers, firefighters, medics and law enforcement) to the animals of Scarlet Springs and nearby areas, evacuate and attempt to help battle the fire.
Although I’ve only read two of the Colorado High Country series, and none of the I-Team series, it was fairly easy to read and understand what was going on in Chasing Fire. I didn’t recognize all the characters here of course, but of the ones I did recognize, I loved seeing them again, especially Chaska and Naomi and Jesse and Ellie. From page one, down to the very last page, I was so into this story, wanting to know how/if everyone would get out, and if Scarlet Springs would be saved. I also have to say that reading this story was really hard for me (although easy to relate to) because my brother and his eldest son just lost their homes and all their physical belongings in the recent Camp Fire fire that ravaged Paradise in Northern California. But, at the same time, because I was able to relate, it made me appreciate this story all the more. I felt every emotion the characters felt – all the fear, all the anger, all the anguish, and finally, the joy that they were alive. Thank you, Pamela Clare, for this beautiful, moving, action-packed story!
This is the novel that brings together Pamela Clare’s two popular groups-The I Team characters and the Scarlet Springs characters. Thrown into the midst of a wildfire, the characters get to know one another and help save the town of Scarlet Springs from the impending conflagration.
The book has it all. Engaging characters, a plotline with twists and turns, steamy sex scenes, heroes and heroines, and a party where everyone gets to know each other better.
It’s a part of a series but definitely can be read on it’s own. Worth every penny!
Eric is the chief of the fire department in the town of Scarlet Springs, Colorado. He knows it’s only a matter of time until another fire comes to destroy the town like the one in the 1800’s. I-team members Marc, Julian and Zach are on a training mission when they end up in Scarlet Springs. Will the FD and I-team members be able to save the town and their friends? An awesome crossover book that I loved reading.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley.
Chasing Fire was an immersive read like no other I can recall. Throughout the entire book—from the raging beast of the fire, the numerous close calls, the extreme acts of heroism, the rescues, the injuries, and the losses—I experienced rushes of adrenaline, chills, tears, and finally relief. (Gosh, I’m worn out!) For those of us who have met and known Pamela Clare’s I-Team and Colorado High Country heroes (and heroines) for years, we totally expect and get why they do what they do. For those readers who are just meeting them in this crossover novel, she’s got you covered with brief, yet informative, introductions. As far as their incentive to be the best and truest kind of heroes just read, gasp, sigh, and find out!
Ever since I discovered Pamela Clare’s distinctive style of writing I’ve been captivated by her stories. Chasing Fire is a crossover featuring characters from both the Colorado High Country and I-Team series’.
I highly recommend this title to anyone who is familiar with Pamela’s work, if you haven’t read her previous books, you may feel a little lost with all the names and connections. Chasing Fire is told from multiple points of view and has multiple story lines running concurrently.
For anyone who is familiar with the cast of characters from both series’ this title feels more like an extended epilogue, with updates on all the characters you’ve come to know and love.
Pamela’s stories are always jam packed full of action, drama, intrigue and suspense. Chasing Fire will have your heart pounding, sitting on the edge of your seat, as you encounter many of your favourite characters facing an epic out of control wild fire that endangers not only the town of Scarlett Springs, but several of their lives as well.
If you love a small town romance with strong themes of family, friendship, and community I highly recommend not only this title, but both the Colorado High Country series, and the I-Team series as well.
I was completely captivated by this title and cannot wait for Ms Clare’s next release!
Love the I-Team and couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this little gem of a crossover!
Wildfires always make for a very action-packed, heart-stopping, adrenaline packed stories. Add in your favourite residents of Scarlet Springs and it is non-stop roller coaster ride!
I’ll be honest, I’ve been a fan of this author’s work since I first picked up Extreme Exposure, but like any author, I’ve had my ups and downs with her work, and that, to me, is perfectly acceptable, because a book can’t please everyone. However, I am extremely pleased to say that this is my favorite of the Colorado High Country books to date!
I had a suspicion that when this was announced as a crossover novel with Ms. Clare’s I-Team series that she’d use the same writing style that she had in Dead By Midnight: An I-Team Christmas, where she told the story from multiple points of view, and I was right. However, this time I wasn’t as annoyed by it. It seemed that no one hero or couple was in the spotlight too much, rather that they all had an equal share of it, which I really appreciated, especially with all the I-Team cameos in the book. I actually think that the multiple points of view actually helped heighten the suspense of the story!
Speaking of the story, I was taken on a wild roller coaster ride! Having never lived in the west, I don’t know what it’s like to live with the fear of wildfires spreading out of control. This book let me experience the tiniest bit of that situation for myself. It was so gripping that I couldn’t put it down and wound up draining the battery on my Kindle and staying up entirely too late reading the story! The events were life altering for the town, and I can’t help but wonder where things in the series will go from here!
For me, this was an amazing story from start to finish, and one that I highly recommend to readers of both Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense!
Well I started the New Year off with a bang from two of my favorite Colorado gangs. Hey look that rhymed lol. Anyways this book was pure genius. I love both the I-Team series and Colorado High Country series. So taking current events like the wild fires and two of my favorite series and putting them together in one action packed, heart melting book was like giving all the fan-girls and guys a bookgasm. Seeing all my favorite past characters as they fight to save lives and the town of Scarlet Springs had my heart racing almost the whole book. I don’t know if you have read my review on Dead By Midnight An I-Team Christmas, but after I read that book the I-Team wasn’t the only one to suffer from PTSD. I swear thinking my Marc was shot had me losing my shit! So when Marc and other beloved heroes almost lost their lives in this book I had some really ugly fan girl freak outs.
After scaring the crap out of my husband and kids by yelling every 20 mins or so ” OMG Noooooo Please NO NO NONOONONONOOOOOOOOO.” I had to go into my bedroom with the door closed and read so as not to disturb my family. To say this book was action packed is an understatement. It was pulse pounding, edge of your seat. I loved every freaking minute of it. Of course Marc, Julian, Nate, Gabe, Jesse, Eric, Vicki, and Sophie were the shining stars of the book for me. Marc Hunter being my all time favorite Pamela Clare hero. He is just panty melting delicious. Any book with Marc in it will be a hit for me. Truly though this book had a great plot. After watching and praying as wildfires devastated California it was moving to read a story related to it with a shining light on the everyday heroes that put their lives on the line in these situations. I don’t know about anyone else but it gave me a look into how hard their jobs are. I mean I know they are hard but getting a deeper look into all they do to protect us, all their families go through worrying that they may lose their loved ones, it humbles me. And even though this book is a work of fiction, you can tell Pamela Clare did her research. This book really was a fangirl dream and if you liked the I-Team or Colorado High Country series then this book is a must. And if you haven’t read them and you are looks for some great Contemporary/Romantic Suspense books give them a try.
Wonderful crossover full length novel. This book was great. I love the entire Colorado High Country Series so much. I haven’t read the I-Team series and that was not a problem at all as far as reading this book (there are some spoilers for some of the couples in the Colorado series, but if you have read the i-team I would say still read this one). It took me just a few chapters to adjust to all the different people and viewpoints, but once I did I could not put this book down. This was my best, favorite new series of the year and I just loved it so much. I hope there is more because I don’t want to leave Scarlett Springs or any of the people in it!! As usual, Pamela brought great writing and an intriguing storyline, all set in the beautiful colorado mountains.
I finished “Chasing Fire” by Pamela Clare last night and I’m still tangled up with emotion. What a terrific book. In my opinion, it’s her best yet. In the book, she brings together beloved characters from her I-Team romantic suspense series and her Colorado High Country (Scarlett Springs) contemporary romance series as they work together to stop a wildfire and save Scarlett Springs. The events are based on the 2016 Cold Springs fire near Nederland, CO (the town on which the fictional Scarlett Springs is based). Ms. Clare’s descriptions of the fire and the actions and emotional reactions by the firefighters and law enforcement fighting it are spot on. “What a terrible thing to be split between duty and the desire to protect loved ones.” This is the reality and fear of all firefighters who work in and around their hometowns. And then there are the firefighters, so many of them volunteers, who come from elsewhere: “The volunteers were working in this smoke, trying to save a town that wasn’t their own—and they weren’t getting paid for it. Marc had to admire their spirit of service, even if he thought they were a little crazy.” As someone who lives in a very rural area of northern Colorado and who has experienced both a fire evacuation and a spouse as a volunteer firefighter, every description rang so true and struck so deep. Of course, this wouldn’t be a Pamela Clare book if there wasn’t a lot of suspense surrounding her heroes. If you are a fan of either or both of Ms Clare’s series, then you definitely need to read this book. If you’ve not read any of her works, this might not be the best book to start with, unless you don’t feel the need to understand the characters’ back stories, for it’s fire that is the real main character in the book.
What an emotional book, I was teary eyed at all the happy parts. Fire! such a terrifying event, who will survive, whose homes and memories will be lost? My heart was racing, wanting to turn the pages faster. There are revisits from previous characters but the story does stand alone. I love the back story for the towns favourite wanderer. Great story by Pamela Clare, it kept me entertained.
Holy moly! This book was intense. I have not read all of the books to both series, but I did recognize quite a few couples. This was great in the way that it brought all these books together and lets the reader check in with these couples.
What was even better is that the storyline will have your heart pumping. This scenario is real life. To be in the minds of all these characters as they face a situation that is not only scary, but can happen and has happened to real people had me riveted to the pages.
I was terrified for these characters. I was rooting for them to beat back that fire and survive. I cried when family members left behind got devastating news and I also rejoiced when they got good news. You can’t possible read this book and feel nothing.
Well done Pamela Clare!
Every synonym of intense describes this book. Fiery, emotional, fanatical, extreme to the nth degree!! The story plays out like the wildfire its about. Starts out with a small flame but soon you are engulfed and overtaken with the intensity of fiery emotions wondering how you are going to survive.
This book was crazy good. The majority of the characters from both the I-Team and Colorado High Country get equal facetime along with plenty of time in peril. As usual the author writes with such realistic descriptions you feel the flames and the pain that every character is going through.
If you’ve read Pamela Clare’s I-Team Series and Colorado High, you better not miss this one! You get to catch a glimpse of some of the notable characters from both series and get updated with their lives. Plus know what happens when the place we all love, Scarlet Springs, gets at risked.
It was a total rollercoaster of emotions for me and definitely bawled my eyes out on some scenes. Ok, enough of that. Don’t wanna spoil anything for you.
Go grab a copy! Legit one, ok? NO to Piracy. 😀
Pamela is an exceptional writer, with attention to detail, storyline, character development, I could go on and on. This book is a page turner in the Scarlet Springs series and well worth the read..just don’t start it in the evening you wont get to sleep til the wee hours of the morning…just warning you.
This is a wonderful combination of Ms. Clare’s two exciting series, “I-Team” and “Colorado High Country”. Scarlet Springs Fire Department, led by chief Eric Hawke, are prepared as they can be for the fire season. Red flag warnings have been issued with the hope that campers will be extra careful and that should anything happen that the winds will remain calm. Meanwhile, the I-Team members are having a training exercise in the area. When Jesse notices a wisp of smoke, he alerts his boss and word will spread that a fire has been detected. The small fire will blaze out of control, fed by high winds, that will endanger the town of Scarlet Springs. Eric will have help not only from his own team, but from members of the I-Team and Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue. Will they be able to get containment on the rapidly growing fire? Will they be able to protect the town and homes in Scarlet Springs? A thrill ride as they fight to save their friends and their way of life. Even if you have not read all of the books in the series, Ms. Clare provides enough back story as well as an update of the main characters. It was wonderful, for me, to revisit the many characters and “catch up” on their lives. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
They are back..I have to admit that I had not read the I-team but I have read the group from Scarlett and I love them, Eric Hawke is my favorite and will continue to be so. This book broke my heart, and I was at the edge of my seat and biting my nails the whole time. We get a brief reconciliation with the ones we know and love and excitement the whole way but eventually we get what we want..I don’t want to give spoilers but if you have read books of this series than you want to grab a copy. Enjoy!
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) Voluntarily left my own thoughts and opinions.
A firefighter is a rescuer extensively trained in firefighting, primarily to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten life, property and the environment as well as to rescue people and animals from dangerous situations.
It starts with a small flame … then the wind picks up and embers are flying everywhere. In a moment it becomes a raging fire … racing to the small town of Scarlet Springs.
The firemen have no immediate back up and members of various law enforcement agencies are in the woods participating in a training exercise using paintballs. There’s also a group of 40-some children along with their counselors who haven’t heard that they are in the way of a huge fire.
There’s panic as people are trying to save pets and forest animals ….. evacuating as many people as they can …. and the women worrying about their men who are at the very core of the raging inferno.
CHASING FIRE is packed with action, and thrills. Jumping off the pages are the fear and worry that envelop the reader. It’s a nail-biting experience as a helicopter is shot down by a drone and the four men survive the crash, only to land right in front of the fire.
For fans of Pamela Clare’s series of the I-Team, this is a gift of almost all the characters in that series. The reader actually gets to see how their lives have progressed since the last book was written.
Many thanks to the author / Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Merging the I-Team and Scarlet Springs together for one big battle against Mother Nature was freaking brilliant!! Almost all the characters from both series were present, making this a mini reunion with all the feels! I went from gut-wrenching worry to relief in the span of moments, flipping pages as fast as I could to see what was happening and Clare didn’t disappoint! The story gets the adrenaline flowing on so many levels, delivering a sound storyline, fantastic characters, and an ending that will leave you satisfied!
