They’re not even halfway through that debate, when they’re drawn to each other with a force neither of them anticipates.

Chasing Eva by Camellia Hart
Series: In Light of Shadows book 1
4 Stars – This book started off great, couldn’t put it down. Loved how Clive pursued and longed for Eva. He was very honest and upfront with his feelings. I also loved that he liked her when they first met (one of my favourite extras in a story). They Had great chemistry together.
I think Eva has a ways to come with her issues with being able to trust in a relationship, and hopefully that doesn’t push Clive away for good. The secondary characters are fun and engaging as well.
This story also has a bit of a mystery as to who is sabotaging Eva’s company. Sadly we don’t find out in this book who that is or if Clive and Eva’s love will stand the test of time. We are just left with a happy for now type ending.
Overall I enjoyed the author’s writing (minus the one sentence and had me stuck for a second… or five… “it’s a circular shaped room… and yet there was a chair in one corner…”??) but hey I am pretty forgiving when the rest of the story is good!
~Paragraphs and Petticoats~
Camellia, done a fantastic job with this book. It has all the feels, from steamy romance to some major suspense of who done it.
I’m looking forward to continuing the series with book 2 Loving Eva.
ONE CAPTIVATING DELIGHT!!!
OMG! Talk about staying the course. A whirlwind of emotions and events that pulls those heartstrings bringing this read roaring to life brilliantly. All the drama, heartache, uncertainty, insecurity, self doubt and a multitude of trials and tribulations that will rock you to the core. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little guy together flawlessly. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. Camellia totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point with such a realistic and an incredibly strong plot that really makes the storyline pop. Remarkable job Camellia, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Holy Hell! What a freaking hot and suspenseful romance Chasing Eva is. In this story there is a mystery and the hope of finding “The One”. In Chasing Eva Camellia Hart came at the story from a different angle of corporate fraud/FBI and a chef. Do I have your attention yet? Well let me tell you from page one Chasing Eva had my attention and I can’t wait to read the second book Loving Eva. The characters are interesting, gorgeous and deliciously naughty and heat up the pages in only the best of ways. Hart leaves us hanging to find out who that bad guy is and in doing so wrote it in a 5-star way.
Eva Avery is supposed to be a chef, but now after her father’s death she is running his interior design company. Stocks have dropped and now clients are pulling out, including one of their longest and most profitable ones. Eva must scramble to try to save everything her father worked so hard to build. When Clive Stanford see a woman that just so happens to have been his first kiss he can’t help but chase Eva till she is back in his life. When Clive realizes his company is about to destroy Eva’s company, Clive wants to help. With information from the FBI, Clive learns that Eva’s problems are way more than just clients pulling away, there is someone out to get the company shut down and they might do anything to do it, including chasing Eva to stop her.
Eva and Clive are SO CUTE. I love that Clive is everything Eva doesn’t want lol. It makes this story even more exciting. You get to see how everything changes for them. You see love and heartbreak but also mystery which is a BIG bonus. Every single minute is worth the read. Just a FYI ones you start reading you won’t stop. Oh and Clive will make you **SWOON**
Camellia Hart did an amazing job leaving you wanting more of this story. You want to know what happens next. I can’t even imagine what the next book will bring.
Drama, Suspense, Romance and Mystery, this book has it all! Eva is facing some serious challenges by taking over the company that her father left for her in his will. Coming from a Culinary career she is out of her element for sure but determined to make her father proud. The problem is that someone is trying to sabotage her success by leaking confidential information to new and existing clients. Throw a hot and sexy ladies man into the mix and Eva definitely has her hands full.
Clive and Eva first met years ago as teenagers, but when they run into each other as adults Clive knows that he can’t let Eva get away again. He decided right then to do whatever it takes to keep her in his life.
The chemistry between the characters is off the charts and the supporting characters all quickly became favorites as well.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I can not wait to dive into the next book because I am left wondering what is going to happen with Eva and her company as well as what will happen between her and Clive.
A must read series for sure! – By Alisa
Camellia Hart is a new author to me, and it was a delightful first book.
Chasing Eva is a second chance romance with fantastic characters and an amazing plot.
Eva got her business from her fathers after his passing, she had other plans but life happened, and her dream of been a chef was left on the back burner when a new situation arrived.
She wants the company to continue to expand and scale but something not going quite right.
Clive is Eva’s biggest client and someone from her past, and a whole lot o package comes with that.
Eva & Clive somewhat became friends but the chemistry is too strong, and the feeling is getting mixing with business.
More reviews on book 2!
Very exciting!!!
4.5 Stars

Her company is being investigated and she is falling for the playboy. Someone she never believed she would fall for. Things are interesting with all the characters in this book. Love the chemistry between them all. Very interesting. Can’t wait to read the next one.
This is the first book I’ve read from Camellia Hart and it certainly will not be the last,,,, This series, I do believe, is going to be
HOT,,,, !!!
Evangeline Rose Avery, or Eva as her friends and colleagues call her, and her close family may even call her Evie, but mostly Eva,,,, she is the CEO of S.F. Design, a top interior design firm on the 37th floor in beautiful downtown San Francisco, she actually was trained as a chef and was doing great, an Executive Chef at La Table, until her father passed away, and then she became head of S.F. Design,,, she has two best best friends, Izzy, who is the Editor of ” In Trend” magazine and Allie who is a Senior Associate at K & L,,,this morning the 3 of them met Clive Stanford,,, oh, is he the looker,,,, rich, talented, good looking AND he is suppose to be dating Silvia, the model,,,, , Eva’s Uncle Dave has been with the company it seems like forever so she is kinda thinking he should’ve been chosen to be the next CEO by the board, but it was in her father Robin’s will that it go to Eva,,, and she has lots of help from her secretary Tina,,, but there is talk around about S.F. Designs being under investigation for fraud and some of their oldest clients are switching to their competitors, but Eva has no idea where or who this could be,,, and now one of her father’s oldest clients have sent them a termination notice ,,,,, now she really has to see what this is all about,,,, she must go upstairs and talk to Mr Stanford,,,,
Clive Stanford is the CEO of Stanford Enterprises, who owns spas, clubs, restaurants, and also some charities.,,, he’s a billionaire philanthropist and a playboy,,,, he has been associated with the supermodel, Silvia Lombardi,,,, he has taken over the company from his brother, Carter who has put all his time and energy into his winery,,, Clive was a Special Forces Officer and then recruited into the FBI before taking over Stanford Enterprises ,,,, his driver and bodyguard is named Tom,,,,, and on his way up to the top floor of one of the buildings he owns, he saw the sexiest woman, she stood right next to him on the way upstairs and she got off on the 37th floor,,,, he really must look into where she belongs,,,,,
I really enjoyed this story of Clive and Eva,,, the ups and downs of their relationship,,, there was adventure in this story and some of that great steam we love to read,, I found I couldn’t put the book down, like I’d miss something if I did,,,, I really can’t wait to start the next book,,,, I would so definitely recommend this book to anyone,,,, !!!
I got this ARC voluntarily to leave an honest review,,,,,
Eva has reluctantly taking over her father’s interior design business after his passing. She has been out of the dating scene since she caught her boyfriend cheating over a year ago. She decides she needs to start dating and goes in search of mister right. Clive is a playboy, he is also the new owner of Stanford Enterprises taking over the company only so his brother could pursue his interest in the wine industry. These two met years ago at a party and had shared their first kiss. A chance meeting in an elevator brings them back together again. When someone threatens to sabotage Eva’s company, Clive vows to protect Eva at all costs. This was a fantastic romantic suspense. The story is well written with great characters and an engaging storyline. The book has suspense, drama, secrets and romance. I really enjoyed this book, it kept my interest from beginning to end. (Beware this book does end on a cliffhanger.)
I voluntarily received an advanced arc copy for an honest review.
Eva and Clive met long ago at one of the parties their fathers held around the holidays. Their fathers had been friends and business associates for quite some time and at one party Eva and Clive had their first kiss. Fast-forward many years later to a chance meeting in the elevator of their mutual building. Now thrown together as someone is trying to manipulate her company, she relies on Clive to help her navigate this new normal.
Chasing Eva is a romantic suspense read continuing in the next 2 books in the series Loving Eva and Killing Eva. This was a first read for this author and overall I enjoyed her writing style. I felt though a little confused as to how Eva didn’t remember kissing Clive (not the most common name) all those years ago. And if Clive knew so much about Eva through the years, how didn’t he know she was running her fathers company and just a few floors down from his office.
So that aside, this story was an interesting read for me. I haven’t been reading too much in the romantic suspense genre lately (though at one time it was a mainstay) and this one I would classify as more romantic than suspenseful. It gives a good baseline for where Clive and Eva have grown since that first kiss, and how they can come together now and try a relationship. Eva has some self-doubts after seeing some of the women Clive has dated, but in the end he shows her that he has eyes for only her.
This new to me author gets 4 stars for this introduction to her series. I am almost through with Loving Eva and then on to Killing Eva to see how this triology ends. All opinions expressed are my own, no review expectation was given.
It’s been said that nothing beats a first kiss. Except, perhaps, reacquainting with that person years later, having never forgotten them. Sounds like the perfect second chance, except Clive Stanford has a bit of a reputation as a ladies man and Eva Avery has had her faith in romantic relationships tainted thanks to a cheating ex. But Clive has never felt about any woman the way he feels about Eva, and he’s determined to make her his and keep her safe. Who knew that there would be so much suspense, intrigue and danger in the corporate world? Eva took over her father’s interior design company after his death, and not only is someone is spilling secrets that result in clients being stolen away, including the biggest account they’ve had for years with Stanford Enterprises, but it looks like her father’s death may not have been an accident.
The advance copy I read of this book is my first by this author, and it’s definitely not a run of the mill billionaire romance. I was easily sucked in to the story and read it quickly to find out how things would resolve. While the book ends with the romance between Clive and Eva firmly cemented, the mystery of who is out to destroy Eva’s company continues into the next book in the series.
I really enjoyed the picturesque settings and loved the secondary characters, especially Eva’s friends, Izzy and Allie. I suspect we’ll continue to learn more about their love lives in the next book, as well. Clive easily won me over and is my favorite kind of hero – one who is confident and intelligent but who also has a big heart and would give his heroine the world. I really loved Eva and connected with her easily, with one small exception. When push came to shove, she only believed Clive about their misunderstanding once she got third party confirmation that what she assumed was untrue. I would have liked to see her have a little more faith and trust in Clive based on how he had proven himself in their relationship. Otherwise, I loved this heartfelt, steamy, exciting, suspenseful romance and can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Chasing Eva
Wow what a sexy, fun, romantic mystery mixed with a touch of danger to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The story begins with Eva,Izzy and Allie at the news stand picking up the latest gossip magazine to discover none other than Clive Stanford in all his glory on the cover. He is the owner of Stanford Enterprise. As they are heading back to work they run into him in the elevator still holding the magazine. Eva blushing not realizing he worked in the building or that they met years ago.
Eva Avery an up and coming chief hoping to open her own restaurant becomes the reluctant heirto her fathers interior design firm when he dies suddenly. Struggling not only with her father’s death and being the CEO of the biggest interior design firm in the nation. She is faced with one of their biggest and longest clients Stanford Enterprise terminating their partnership. She is shocked by the sudden turn of events. As she tries to gain more clients she soon discovers someone is out to destroy her. Could it be corporate espionage or fraud at play?
Clive Stanford former special forces and FBI agent also gave up the job he loved to take over his family company Stanford Enterprise. He is wealthy, good looking and seen on the arms of different models monthy. By outword appear he appears to be a player.
They are drawn to each other but Eva is over being played by disloyal cheating men she won’t fall for a playboy like Clive. There is only one problem Clive won’t give up that easy especially since she was his first kiss fifteen years ago.
What happens when some secrets are revealed? Who can be trusted and who can’t? Who is out to sabotage her and her company? We are left with a cliffhanger but not your OMG what just happened cliffy. It’s a more waiting on the next book because we still don’t know who is out to ruin her cliffy.
Five
This was such a delightful read with lots of feel good fuzzy feelings. I loved the romance between this couple. It was also nice to have some suspense in a romance book. Not crazy about cliffhangers but it is still worth the read.
Witty writing and characters bring this intriguing story to life. This book grabbed my attention right from the start and I was unable to put it down. This could be read as a standalone (if you don’t mind unanswered questions) but why, I had to get the other two books in this series since I simply can’t stop at Chasing Eva.
I enjoyed reading this book but I’m disappointed that the story doesn’t end in the book and that I have to buy another book to see how the story ends.
I really loved the combination of romance and intrigue in this story. I loved the chemistry between Eva and Clive, both in and out of the sack. You definitely feel bad for Eva that she was thrown into running her father’s company after his death, and setting aside her career as an up and coming chef. Then, add to that, someone is trying to sabotage her company. Who is out to ruin her, and can Clive help keep her safe and keep her company from going down in flames? Luckily, as a former FBI agent, Clive has a better insight on what they are up against. Can Eva trust him with her life and her heart? Lots of twists and turns in this book! Looking forward to reading the next two books in this series!
I enjoyed all three of the books,
I don’t enjoy books that don’t finish the story. Just be aware this is part of a series
*3.5 stars!*
To me, this romantic suspense story was more suspense-y than romance-y, if that makes sense. Yes, there’s a love story in here, and yes, it gets steamy a few times, but I found myself really wanting to get to the bottom of the mystery first.
Clive & Eva are likable characters, as are the secondary characters. I thought the writing was good, and the story was suspenseful and interesting.
I would’ve loved more connection/chemistry between Clive and Eva. I knew it was there, but I wanted to feel it more. That being said, I still enjoyed this and the suspense kept me turning the pages, needing to know what happened next.
This book ends with happiness (for now) for the couple, but the mystery is still unsolved.
I wouldn’t mind seeing how this plays out, and hopefully will get to books 2 & 3 some day.
