When Eva and Clive meet in the office elevator fifteen years after they’ve seen each other last, their mutual attraction not dulled one bit, they’re tempted to explore their intense, undeniable, chemistry further. But then Eva discovers that the sinfully gorgeous Clive is the powerful businessman who’s causing her company’s downfall. She’s determined to sway her newfound enemy to reconsider his … reconsider his betrayal. They’re not even halfway through that debate, when they’re drawn to each other with a force neither of them anticipates.
Having lived through her share of disloyal relationships Eva’s sworn off heartbreaker men. No way she’ll fall for this assertive, enigmatic playboy.
But Clive isn’t one to give up that easily, or at all for that matter. She doesn’t know, he’s been chasing Eva since their first kiss fifteen years ago.
First book in a series of three.
Underlying suspense continues in Loving Eva and concludes in Killing Eva.
*Two bonus chapters are at the end.

I really enjoyed this book and smaaiting to read the next 2 installments of the 3 book series. Each part of the series is complete and not dependent on each other. You will enjoy this book.
Thank you NetGalley for gifting me this book! Chasing Eva was so good that I couldn’t put it down. I have had this on my tbr list for so long and now I am mad at myself for not picking it up sooner. I enjoyed the third person perspective because we get to see both Eva and Clive’s point of view. We aren’t in the dark on the male leads thoughts and feelings which was great. Eva is also a strong spirit who takes over her father’s business. It’s inspiring to see the female lead not depend on others and is the head of a company. Clive is dreamy and everything a girl could want in a man. The mystery part of the book made it even better! I really recommend this book.
This is a new author for me and I have to say that it won’t be the last work I read for her. I love a good love story and a little mystery and suspense just add to the excitement of meeting new characters. Eva and Clive have intrigued me and I can’t wait to read the rest of their story.
Eva has stepped into her fathers shoes, which are big shoes to fill. Little does she know there are other issues behind the scenes playing out that will determine whether she can possibly succeed.
Clive has been attracted to Eva for years, not realizing she was the woman he was going to be destined to save, even from himself. Can he gain her heart and her trust and still keep her safe? Or will he have to lose her in order to save her?
Definitely a beginning that I will look forward to following.
I was given this book for an honest opinion. Thanks Camila Hart.
I love this story. It had me from the second chapter. Every time I left the house I could wait to return home to finish. I didn’t know it was a series but I’m still interested in the suspense is maddening. I need some questions answered. Lol.
Eva and Clive are connected so many way through out their lives. Eva went to culinary school and was working a way to becoming a elite chef. When asked by her father to take over family design business. She was interested but her father died several months later so she did as he wished. Clive was a ex special forces turned FBI agent. But he also took over the family business. Not his initial intention but he did anyway. As it turns out Eva needed him. Someone was trying to ruin her company. There was an informant involved, her father death may not be an accident and she needed to say her company. Falling in love with Clive was a bonus.
I love this book it was suspenseful. It had some heartbreak moments and heart warming ones too. The love or sex scene were tasteful and Hot.
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed Eva’s story immensely. Eva and Clive are interactive and real, with chemistry that’s almost tangible. The emotions are tumultuous but very intense, detailed and oh so enthralling. I was totally entranced by the intrigue and suspense surrounding and intertwining story. This story does leave you with a few unanswered questions with a bit of a cliffhanger, but don’t let that deter you from giving this author a try. Her writing is fresh with a depth of engagement that you will enjoy.
This is the first novel that I have read of Ms. Hart’s. I wasn’t sure what to think at first because it was a trilogy and I knew not everything would be wrapped up in a neat package and then I saw the title of the last in the series and I was worried. I then read the summary and it was not what I thought. So I read the first book.
I am glad that I did. It’s very hard not to get caught up in the story of the billionaire Clive and Eva who is struggling to take over for her father’s company after his untimely death. She was a trained chef with dreams of opening her own restaurant but fate had other plans and fate is what lead her to Clive.
This is a love story but their story has a lot of bumps in the road which is true to life. It’s not always smooth sailing in the romance ocean part of life. Clive is a bit of playboy or at least that is how the tabloids portray him but just like in life the tabloids want to sell papers. I can’t imagine being thrust into the limelight like that and live under the watchful eyes of the paparazzi as they circle around for news and photos. How Eva handles it seems very real, the way she responds isn’t all roses. She is a very real character and that’s what I liked about her. She is down to Earth and actually once we get to know Clive so is he. His family is successful but he isn’t snotty and he too stepped into his father’s shoes to run his company when his brother wanted to try other things. They have a lot in common in that respect.
The story is full of espionage, secrets and lies. I am dying to find out the answers. It was hard to put this book down and her friends Allie and Izzy and fun and loyal characters. They balance each other out and who can’t identify with a friendship like theirs.
I was drawn in by the writing and the descriptions of the various settings in the book. I want to see his brother’s house in the vineyard! I fell in love with it from the description and the picture it put into my head.
I am ready for the next one. I have to see how all of this ends and what more can happen to these two as I know their road to happiness will be filled with darkness before the dawn.
I received this book from book from Book Funnel, and this is my honest review.
Can you find your soulmate in the elevator? In the case of Clive and Eva not only do they have sparks across an elevator but they also had a connection from long ago. But can a playboy win the heart of the girl next door? Will the baggage from their companies connection end the relationship before it can grow? Or will his link to the FBI and the espionage in her father’s company be the be all or end all of the romance? With beautifully written characters and a storyline filled with lies, deception, hot sex scenes and enough emotion to keep the reader invested this is a great book. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Chasing Eva, grabs you from the very
first pages to the last! It’s a captivating, steamy & suspenseful story.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
Eva, has recently taken over her late father’s company. It’s an interior design firm. And something is going on with
their clients canceling contracts.
Clive, is the owner of Stanford Enterprise.
Also a long-time client of S.F. Designs.
He’s a former FBI agent, and wasn’t
planning on leaving, till he needed to
step in for his brother.
When Eva, sets up a meeting with Clive’s
company, he joins the meeting.
The meeting takes a turn when Eva mentions corporate fraud.
Through his contacts at the FBI, he learns that her late father had already been in touch when them.
It is the first book I’ve read by
Camellia Hart, & it won’t be my last.
Can’t wait to read the next story in
the series.
This is Book 1 of 3.
Highly Recommended!!!
NEW TO ME AUTHOR
Chasing Eva is book one in this romantic suspense trilogy.
Eva Avery took over the family business after her father passed away, but someone is trying to shut her down. But as she tries to save what her father trust her with, she’s trying to save her heart from falling in love again.
Clive Stanford is a notorious bachelor. The camera loves him, the tabloids are interested in his love life, and Clive trying to catch the one who slipped through his hands many years ago… Eva.
This is my first read by Camellia Hart, and I have to say, it won’t be the last. The story had a great flow. I love the supporting characters (who need a story too). A personal favorite, the sexy times are not glazed over (thank you!)
I’m a huge fan of romantic suspense, so I will be jumping into book two as soon as I can. If you love a contemporary, suspenseful story, then this book is for you.
Very intense. Keeps you on the edge.
Hard to put down once the story takes off.
Little cliffhanger, story continues in book 2.
This is my first time reading this author’s work. Not my last, it’s well written, amazing plot and interesting characters. Gets my vote!!!!!
This is the first book in a three book trilogy and it does not disappoint. It’s an amazing intense read that will leave you wanting more of Clive and Eva. Can’t wait to read more of their story.
Sweet, sensual and suspenseful
Chasing Eva (In Light of Shadows Series Book 1) by Camellia Hart is a very well written book. I loved the characters! Eva and Clive are wonderful and very well developed including a little bit of history.
The plot is very intriguing, there’s some suspense and mystery there that keeps the reader guessing. Then there’s the setting, or I should say settings. This couple gets around to a lot of places which also keeps things interesting and demonstrates how much Clive cares for Eva. It’s absolutely romantic how he chases her, he is truly an alpha protector which often leads to hot sexy times. Their chemistry is off the charts.
Overall a very well written book all around, an ending that is happy but in a way that you know there’s more to come. I can’t wait to read Book 2!
This is the first book in a new series. Eva is forced to take over her fathers’ interior design business when he passes away. Clive is ex-special forces and a businessman. This is a well written fast paced story which had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this author, whose work I recommend for all romance suspense lovers.
*Five Stars*
*Ebook kindly provided by the author and I’m leaving an honest review*
This is my first book by this author but certainly won’t be the last. I can’t wait to read the other two books in In Light Of Shadows Trilogy. It was told in dual, third person POV. The plot is so well-developed and well-written. I loved that the main story has a backstory. The writing just flowed and pulled me into this intriguing story from start to finish; wanting to find out what happens next. I enjoyed every minute of it and never wanted it to end. I fell for the characters primary and secondary because it’s so easy to love them and identify with them. Such an amazing debut book.
Angsty
Passionate
Intense
Heartfelt
Suspenseful
First crush
Amazing love story
While yes, it was an insta-love and insta connection between the two main characters, I honestly didn’t mind because the author knew how to develop, create the storyline and make you fall in love with her words and plot. It was very enjoyable read with so many twists and turns, while delivering an intense and passionate romance between Clive and Eva and I devoured it in one sitting.
Eva is a young professional and an amazing cook. Her dream was to open her own restaurant. Her father’s death left her the heir of a company she didn’t want but she’ll do everything in her power to make it successful again. She is strong, capable, a fighter, independent, determined, but also vulnerable – jaded from the past relationship.
Clive is a powerful businessman, Special Forces, an ex FBI agent, playboy – at least that image we see from tabloids – but underneath he is loving, caring, charismatic, charming, possessive, alpha, determined, stubborn. He is determined to win Eva over who was his first crush / first kiss. He knows that she is different and his game changer.
I love that I got to see the backstory of Eva and Clive – and that this first crush (dare I say infatuation or even love) turned into this amazing, intense, passionate love story with growing attraction, connection and chemistry. But will Eva take a leap of faith given her past with relationships and her parents’ relationship?
“But was falling such a bad thing, she wondered. Was it, perhaps better to see the top of the mountain, even if only for a moment, than never to even try? Or was it that the higher you allow yourself to climb, the further you have to come crashing down to earth?”
— The Declaration by Gemma Malley
Eva and Clive are amazing. I loved their banter, the easy going manner they have, how protective he is of her and the way Clive was going to prove to her that they are meant to be together and that she can trust him or even lean on him. They are passionate and intense. From the moment they met again ( reconnect) there was fiery connection and attraction. Their chemistry is off the charts. They are both flawed and complex. Neither of them can deny the strong connection they feel nor the fiery chemistry. They click and they simply understand each other. Their journey together isn’t easy it’s filled with so many obstacles, miscommunication (honestly, even though I understand her point of you and know of her past, why doesn’t she just ask or talk with him?) and misunderstandings, but Clive never did give up on her or them. Slowly he brings down her walls and wins her guarded heart.
“And your heart’s against my chest, your lips pressed in my neck
I’m falling for your eyes, but they don’t know me yet”
I can’t wait to read the next ones. I really need the happy ending for Clive and Eva, even though the first book is Happy For Now – there are so many unanswered questions and I would like to see them make it and grab the happiness. After all they’ve been through they deserve it. Overall it’s a really solid and amazing book. If you love romance mixed with two strong and loveable characters, suspense, twists and turns then this is a book for you. I highly recommend it.
First off I have to give a huge THANK YOU to Camellia Hart for allowing me to read and review her book. I laughed so hard at times because these two characters are a riot! I mean poor Eva she has had her fair share of heart break and she has sworn off dating and men. After the death of her father she decides to take over her fathers business. But she soon learns that someone is spreading malicious rumors about the company and she needs to find out who it is and why they are doing it before she loses the business. To add to her mess in walks this sculpted God Clive who is everything she loves in a man but he might be the one spreading the rumors.
As their passion ignites the two have to navigate through it and find out who is spreading the rumors about her business. Clive is something else I love him to pieces because he is a God but he is also loving and compassionate. He has had his eyes on Eva for many years and he will stop at nothing to get her and keep her.
This is a must read that will have you on a roller coaster ride but a good one where you are whooping for joy. I need book two like ASAP to see what happens next. So go on and one click it you won’t be disappointed!
Absolutely amazing!!! Major cliffhanger leaves you dying for more!!! Great story line, love, faith, family, tragedy, scary, tear jerker, etc. Loved every page!!! Cheers to a 5 star read… deserves 29 stars!!!!
Chasing Eva is the first book of In light of Shadows series and is also the first book I have read by Camellia Hart.
Eva was an aspiring chef and was working hard at being the best she could be in the hospitality industry, she wanted to own her own restaurant sometime in the near future. This dream of hers comes crashing down the day she finds out her father passes away and she had to take over his interior design business. While she is running the business she meets Clive who is also a multi billion dollar business owner and one of her dads long time clients who originally tried to cancel out their business contract. When Clive realizes who Eva is, he does everything in his power to get her to go out with him. Eva decides to go out with Clive even though she has a lot on her plate, she is trying to figure out why all of a sudden she is losing clients that her father had for many years, and how to get new clientele so the business does not do a nose dive and fail.
Chasing Eva was a good read, I really enjoyed how the author did the story line, it is full of suspense, love, mystery and I could not put the book down. I look forward to reading book two Loving Eva
This was a hard book to put down and one that caused me to lose a good bit of sleep. It was well written and the development of the characters was well done.
Eva has wanted to be a world class chef and was on her way to accomplishing that when her dad died and he left her to run his business. But, someone is out to destroy the business and her. Then she finds out that her father’s death may not have been an accident as the police had said. Eva has a hard time trusting others because of the betrayal of her father and her former boyfriend. She is determined to be a success but the harder she tries, the more the saboteur seems to get hold and becomes more successful in bringing her down.
Clive is a very successful businessman who was a former FBI agent. He remembers Eva from his childhood and their first kiss but hasn’t seen her for many years. When a chance encounter brings them together again, he is smitten and can’t seem to get enough of her. The more he is with her, the more he craves being with her. He has never been the type of guy to be in a relationship. None of his “relationships” lasted more than a month, until Eva. He knows she is danger and he is determined to keep her safe and protected, but in order to do that, he has to keep some secrets. When Eva discovers those secrets will she be able to forgive him or will she believe that one more man has betrayed her?
I was completely engrossed in Eva and Clive’s story. My one criticism of the book, and it is a personal one, was that there were very descriptive sex scenes, which is not my cup of tea. The story itself was engaging and the chemistry between Clive and Eva was off the charts. Their feelings certainly seemed genuine and not contrived. I’d like to know more of their story and the loose ends that I am sure are resolved in the next two books.
Eva was drawn to the stranger on the elevator. She had no idea where they’re headed connection would lead. Evangeline has taken over her father’s business after his death. When they start losing clients, and their biggest customer Stanford Enterprises.
Clive Stanford was smitten as soon as he seen Eva.He racked his brain until he could remember how he knew her.He was driven to make Eva his.
Eva isn’t easy to move forward, trying to learn from her past. Will she be able to trust Clive? His past has never been with anyone over a month, and always has had arm candy. Will they both be able to trust?
So much more happening ,but definitely don’t want to give anything away from stalking, and FBI tailing.alot going on. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Let me just say you get more than just romance in this book. There’s twists and turns and some truly,”what the hell is going on” moments. One of the things I like best about this story is that the heroine, Eva, is smart and not afraid to take on new challenges. Yes, she is a little trepidatious but that is to be expected for a number of reasons. I won’t go into them because I don’t do spoilers. In my opinion it’s not fair to the author. You can read the blurb and buy the book. I will say Eva’s insecurity does show up at times but only within herself and with her closest friends. In business and personally she does her best to not let it show through. This is a story of “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans”. By that I mean Eva never expected this path for her life. She envisioned it turning out quite differently. So there is a lot of truth in this book. Why truth, well, we’re all insecure in some things and sometimes we let our imaginations get the best of us, even when we try to get beyond it. Also, how often does life go exactly as you mapped it out in your mind. Let me tell you, rarely does it come without pitfalls.
There’s a lot happening in this book and it moves fast. From the adorable “meet cute” in the elevator to the suspense of what is happening in her business world we are sent in a whirlwind of story. I personally would’ve been happy to read more about the business side of what’s happening, but I get it. This is a trilogy and there seems like there is a lot of story to be told. I already have my own theories on what is going on. I’m probably way off base, but isn’t that why we love a good mystery?
Clive is the man dreams are made of. He also has his own, “expect the unexpected” aspect to his life story. He’s fascinating, smart, abrupt but also caring. There’s much more to him that meets the eye. Also, there’s a back story we haven’t been privy to yet, I think.
The chemistry of Eva and Clive is explosive and hot but it’s also tender. There’s so much I would like to say about their relationship but you need to discover that yourself.
The secondary characters in this book are fascinating and I would love to see some of them get their own story. Don’t know if that’s on the author’s menu or not. I’m just putting it out there.
You get a lot in this book, smiles, laugh, mystery, intrigue, people to cheer for, people to be suspicious of, problems to be solved, some resolution, romance and heat…really good heat!
You also realize that even though life hasn’t turned out like you planned sometimes it’s better. From experience we all know from bad comes good. We learn more from our failures than our conquests.
This is my first book by this author. It won’t be my last. I read this book in one sitting. It’s fast paced and holds your attention. I can’t wait for the next book to see where this is headed. Kudos to the author.
