(A standalone Heartbreaker Bay novel)Meet cute…Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of … historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.
Make merry…
Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself… just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener…just because she “gets” Spence immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?
…and hope for a miracle.
Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

Jill Shalvis is a master storytelling and this is right up there with my Christmas jam for reading pleasure….
Colbie Albright, aka C.E. Crown author of YA books, needs a break from her life. She’s under a deadline and has writer’s block, the man she thought she loved turned out to be just leading her on and her mother and twin brothers are so dependent on her that they don’t even know how to run the washing machine. So, three weeks before Christmas, she hops on a flight to San Francisco hoping to find herself.
Spence Baldwin is a tech genius who owns the building where Colbie finds herself after telling her cab driver to “drop her off at some place interesting.” He’s walking a dog as a favor to a friend when the dog charges Colbie and knocks her into the fountain that’s said to have magical powers – toss a coin into it and you’ll find true love. Spence feels responsible for Colbie’s disheveled state and offers her a temporary apartment in his building.
Of course, they are attracted to each other and enjoy spending time together. They both know that Colbie plans to return to her life in New Your City on Christmas Eve, just three weeks away, so they “go for it,” thinking that they have an “expiration date” on whatever relationship they may have. And, of course, both find it hard to say goodbye after just three weeks together.
This was an enjoyable Christmas read. The characters were funny and believable. I am never disappointed with Jill Shalvis books.
Jill Shalvis does it again with funny, quirky characters you can’t help but root for. Great read.
Such a wonderful romance with Colbie and Spence and the family Spence developed in San Francisco. The antics of the whole crew as their relationship develops is totally entertaining.
YA writer Colbie escapes the madness of her life but winds up in San Francisco instead of the Caribbean. For reclusive inventor Spence, Colbie is just the distraction he needs to take a break from his all too busy workload. I still have a hard time following the young adult lingo and laid back demeanor that we see today. But Ms Shalvis has written a very moving and easy to read story about young love.
Nothing too different from most rom-coms, but an entertaining read.
Awwww….what charming Christmas story. You’ll following in love with these characters. A great read!!
Chasing Christmas Eve was another winner from the Heartbreaker Bay family! Spence. Oh, sweet, adorable, nerdy Spence. you do deserve love and Colbie might just be the perfect woman for you. she too loves to work, but thankfully, she also knows when she needs more.
Chasing Christmas Eve was a seriously sexy book with a great plot line (who doesn’t love a writer who is blocked?) and a sexy nerd hero who is so busy taking care of everyone else that he forgets about his own happiness. He’s been burned, he doesn’t trust easily, or so he says, but the fact is, he trusts those his heart knows are good for him. His heart knows Colbie is one of them from the get-go.
What I loved about Chasing Christmas Eve was the simplicity of the complicated. Both Colbie and Spence’s lives are beyond complicated but when they are together everything is simple. Love, while complicated, is really very simple, which they both learn by the end of the book.
If you love a fast paced, never boring, sexy, fun, love triumphs all, kind of Christmas book then you want to grab Spence and Colbie’s story.
Colbie Albright needs a break from her current reality, her author life is blowing up, her family is in her business, and it’s a daily struggle just to have a moment to herself. So she decides to pack a bag and set out a little vacation and get in some much needed “me” time. Which takes her to San Francisco, it has the historic appeal that she was looking for, the warmer weather she was craving, and a super sexy knight in shining armor that comes to save the day when she is accidentally knocked into a water fountain. From there the sparks start to fly, and these two start to take a shine to one another, problem is there little love affair will end in a few short weeks, when Colbie must return to the life she momentarily left behind…
The moment that Colbie splashes into Spencer Baldwin’s life he can’t help but be drawn to her, she is beautiful, funny, and the best thing to wander into his sheltered life in a long time. He tends to want to help folks and his friends have watched that come back and bite him in the past, but he reassures them that she is different, that they can trust her like he does. It’s not like he is planning to get involved with her, he just wants to help her out and give her a place to stay for the month… but little does he know fate has other plans for them!
Chasing Christmas Eve is a delightful, clever, and light-hearted tale that is sure to warm the hearts of readers and leave a smile on their face! I am no stranger to Ms. Shalvis’s wonderful tales, she is my go-to author when I am looking for a funny read to lift my spirits and curl my toes… and to this date she has yet to let me down. I thoroughly enjoyed this latest offering from her, the story line was very engaging, the characters were well drawn, and it gave me the holiday feels I hoped to find! Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, Ms. Shalvis’s endearing characters will pull you into their world and make you feel right at home in a matter of minutes!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Chasing Christmas Eve takes readers back to Heartbreaker Bay and this time it’s the genius inventor’s turn to find his ever after with a petite equally averse to their new found fame writer. Colbie has run away from home or as near as a grown woman can run away from her family and their overbearing need for her to fix everything. Not to mention that her writing muse is being stifled by all of it. So when an oncoming storm redirects her to the west coast rather than a Pacific island she dreams of, she grabs at the chance to enjoy being not her. Spence has been hitting his own road block. His invention isn’t performing according to plan, the same way that his life seems to be hitting a glitch. So when these two hit it off with not so little dose of lust, they decided to enjoy the break from real life and just go with the attraction. But what if happily ever after is just around the corner, can these two decide to leave the old ways behind and pursue a new one?
The ever adorable Heartbreaker Series is back and fans will not be disappointed with the way Spence gets his happily ever after. The resident genius is simply adorable when it comes to his interactions with Colbie, who knew he had it in him to be romantic. Colbie is definitely his equal, they are both driven but have let each other’s past dictate their future. The rest of the gang is back as well, lending advice and pretty much becoming comedic side kicks, giving fans of the series a glimpse of their favorite couples plus a fantastic way of spotlighting how close these characters are to each other. Sweet, romantic and yes the sex is definitely hot which makes this a holiday read worth spending time with.
This is the fourth in the Heartbreaker Bay series. I usually start my Christmas themed reading shortly after Thanksgiving. This year is no different except that when I came across the Heartbreaker Bay series, I saw that it had a couple of Christmas themed books and decided to start the entire series. I can honestly say that even though all of them are not Christmas themed I may be taking a break from tradition to finish the entire series. The rest of the Christmas reading may have to wait until next year!
If you love the nerds/geeks of the world, especially the mildly socially awkward ones, then this book is definitely a must-read. Spence and Colbie are brilliant, no doubt about it, they also have relationship challenges. Both of them are hiding something, both of them know it but can’t quite figure out exactly what the other is hiding. Of course, Elle, Spence’s badass pitbull in heels, goes to everything negative and warns Spence he needs to walk away. The quicker the better. Spence isn’t buying it. Either way, it doesn’t matter because Colbie is on a limited time schedule and will be gone by Christmas. How bad could it possibly get?
This is a quick and fun Christmas-themed story that’s worth picking up if you need a holiday pick-me-up.
I love these characters! Dante and Sarah are so good together. He’s tender, considerate, and completely alpha. She’s a genius, sweet and innocent. Together their chemistry is off the charts. This story is fun, flirty, full of sexy times with a bit of suspense and danger.
I LOVED, LOVED this story! It was Quirky and Funny and made me smile and even laugh out loud more than a time or two. It’s a book I wouldn’t mind reading more than once!
Colbie was a hoot, and the things that came out of her mouth were so funny! And her way of using other words to substitute for cuss words were funny too! She was a very talented author but also had some ditsy accidents. It just made me like her more. It was like it wasn’t that she fell down but more like the floor raised up and hit her. Don’t get me wrong, she knew it and owned the fact. She was also super responsible for others too. That also caught up with her and was one of the reasons she “ran away.” She knew it was only going to be for a few weeks, but boy did people hound her to take care of them. She needed a break.
Spence was another interesting main character. Geeky, handsome genius. A man who had learned to be all work and no play. He figured he could either be successful as an inventor or as a man with a relationship with a woman. He just couldn’t make both work together.
Some of Spence’s gang of friends added to the fun. Especially, Elle his BFF, protector and building manager. She was one good but tough friend. A friend bent on tearing up anyone who tried to take advantage of Spence. Which makes things kind of tough because Elle knows that Colbie is hiding something about herself. And she’s going to find out what it is come hell or high water.
I enjoyed the game that the two main characters played. The one where they tried to guess what the other one did for a living. It made for some interesting times.
Yes, there will be romance and there will be sex too. There is also a good Epilogue with a H.E.A. that had flair.
P.S. I would have given this book high marks for the humor alone. But to let you know there were some serious issues as well. It wasn’t ALL fun and games.
I always love a Jill Shalvis book, but she’s the master at Christmas stories. Since I”m writing my first Christmas romance, I’ve got Christmas music going and I’m reading Christmas romances in August! It’s quite refreshing, especially since it’s 100 degrees outside. I can’t wait to dig into another Jill Shalvis Christmas story.
I’m so enjoying this Heartbreaker Bay series. It was fun to see the nerdy Spence find someone other than his work to keep him occupied. He thought he could never love someone because he’s married to his work. And he’d tried before and failed miserably. Colbie is taking a vacay incognito from her writing career and ended up in San Francisco. She never expected she’d fall for a big hunky guy in glasses. I love reading about this quirky group of friends who live and/or work at the Pacific Pier Building. Each story is about love, family and even second chances. Very well written. On to the next in the series.
I truly enjoyed this book. From the very first page I was hooked and couldn’t put it down! I was sad this book had to end but I’m looking forward to reading more in this series. This is a stand-alone book.
While I realize we’re well-past Christmas, I wanted to recommend this book because it’s such a fun escape. And especially now when we’re in week 900 of #stayathome it’s a great way to spend the afternoon and forget the world.
The story is cute, funny, and unpredictable. The love interest is hot but also flawed, which makes him an even better match. Our protagonist is trying to escape from her life in New York and lands smack dab in the middle of a romance. This is also a cute series – set in the same location – and it’s fun to see some of the other characters from books I’ve read pop in and out – like old friends. Hey, I know you!
Highly recommended!
Chasing Christmas Eve Jill Shalvis
A wonderful story to make you smile during the Christmas holiday or anytime.
Jill Shalvis never disappoints, I love this small town and it’s quirky characters. The biggest laugh as usual comes from the hashtag chapter titles.
Colbie blows into town escaping her life in New York and lands in San Francisco right into a fountain belonging to the sexy geek, Spence.
They had a smouldering connection, both alike and yet so different and both with secrets. This was a fun read, a little slower than others but still enjoyable. You’ll fall in love with these two and hope they don’t blow it as they really need each other and a HEA.
