(A standalone Heartbreaker Bay novel)Meet cute…Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of … historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.
Make merry…
Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot—chemistry he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself… just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener…just because she “gets” Spence immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?
…and hope for a miracle.
Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

I will read anything with Jill Shalvis name on it…..this inspired me to go back and read the whole Heartbreaker Bay series!
Each of the books delves into the depths of one or more of the residents and/or business owners of a building in Cow Hollow, San Francisco, with it’s own courtyard and renowned wishing fountain. This story is about resident genius and building owner Spence, who believes that his family genetics only allows him to succeed in business or love, but not both. His past is revealed, so the reader understand where he comes from and why he is the way he is. In wanders Colbie Albright, successful author, who has been taking care of her mother and twin brothers since she was too young to have had that responsibility. She has been experiencing writer’s block and wanders into the courtyard, to be accidentally knocked into the fountain by one of Willa’s clients, Daisy Duke, who was being walked by Spence. Spence feels guilty and sets her up in the apartment that he keeps for homeless Eddie, who refuses to use it. Away from the pressure of her family, agent and assistances, Colbie gets her muse back, particularly with Spence around. Both of them keep their successful identities secret and find something special in each other. But she is only in San Fransisco for 3 weeks. Is that enough time for the fountain to work it’s magic?
I started the series with this book and sank right into the whole cast. What a great couple! I just love the hero of this story and all his quirks.
Couldn’t put this book down. Sweet, funny. Made my laugh. Love all Jill Slavis’s books.
Must read..
Loved the characters and the continuing stories of the people in this series.
Loved it!!
Love this series by Jill Shalvis. Would love to live in one of the apartments and meet the people there, This book makes me laugh, sigh & cheer.
I always enjoy Jill Shalvis. This is another great story!
Easy to read and good.
Always fun.
A sweet steamy romance and thoroughly enjoyable.
A quick read, thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Love Jill Shalvis books never disappoints
After doling out little bits of Spencer over the last few books, Ms. Shalvis finally gives us his story and I was more than ready! What a sexy, sexy nerd.
Spence has become more like the drones he’s perfecting than a man; everyone in his life taking care of him and catering to his every unspoken wish. Colbie is the perfect woman for him, someone that he can look after for a change. Someone that makes him want to be a well rounded man, just as Spence makes Colbie realize what a complete disaster her life has become, through nobody’s fault but her own, and she knows it. Cue Eddie and his special brownies, some misguided but well meaning friends, fire suppression sprinklers, and of course it wouldn’t be a Heartbreaker Bay novel without some sort of half dressed poker in the basement. I loved this book!
The Heartbreaker Bay series keeps getting better and better! It will be a sad day when this series is over but let’s not think about that! Back to the story – finally, we get a chance to read about Spence and the special lady that opens his heart to love again. Colbie and Spence are truly meant for each other, and this story tells us their before story to understand why Colbie and Spence both have difficulties opening their hearts to their true feelings. What a fabulous HEA story for a relaxing day at the beach!
This book was so enjoyable, I laughed, cried some and thoroughly fell in love with the characters. Jill Shalvis writes the most wonderful stories. I think I have read everyone of her books, I know I have missed a few but each one has been truly the best. The characters are believable, funny, and she captures each one that makes reading so wonderful!! Keep writing these books!
Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis
A Heartbreaker Bay Novel #4
What is the best gift one can be given for the holidays? Love…or…perhaps a wonderful romance that has great characters that care about one another and then learn to love a person that shows up on their doorstep just a few weeks before Christmas. Oh…and characters that make you WANT them to be together because they make one another so very happy.
I have enjoyed every one of this author’s books that I have read. The Heartbreaker Bay series is filled with people that I wish I could be friends with – oh – to be able to walk into one of the businesses to chat with any of them or perhaps to go and wish at the magical fountain or to be there immersed in their camaraderie…or have a cup of coffee or a tasty cupcake or a girls’ night out – wouldn’t that be grand?
Anyway, this is the story of Colbie and Spence. Colbie has been responsible for way too much for many years and is in need of a break SO she takes one without telling those near and dear to her where she has gone. When she arrives in San Francisco she ends up wet and bedraggled and shortly in the arms of Spence, owner of that magic fountain I mentioned in the previous paragraph. Colbie is looking for her writing block to be unblocked and Spence is diligently working to overcome a glitch in the most recent invention he is working on. They know that should anything happen between them there is an expiration date because Colbie is returning to New York in three weeks. In spite of or perhaps because of that timeline…things heat up…they enjoy one another…try to avoid feelings for one another…but…not so easily achieved…and…just how can there be a future for them with three thousand miles between his abode and hers?
Spence and Colbie are great together. I really loved their times socializing with each other and others…and also enjoyed their steamier interactions, too. The group Spence considers “family” are wonderful so catching up with the three couples that had their stories told in the first three books was a special treat. AND it is marvelous knowing that there are so many great characters mentioned in the book that so richly deserve to have their own HEA’s in the future – that means that there will be MORE books in the series for me to look forward to. I am definitely not ready to say goodbye to this series any time soon!
Thank you to the author for the ARC of this novel – This is my honest review.
Jill Shalvis is well versed at turning a frown into a much needed smile. Chasing Christmas Eve delivers some early holiday cheer and bit of soul deep nostalgia. What does a wannabe writer and a seriously single minded, but no less adorable inventor have in common? The ability to make a reader laugh and cry in this temptingly sweet and inspiring Christmas carol. Pleasure is a certainty with this fun tale.
