I am yet to read a book by Kylie Scott that I do not totally devour. Chaser is the 3rd book in the Dive Bar series and such a great storyline that you find yourself thoroughly immersed in this book. Eric is a character we have met in previous books but he comes into his own in this book and you will find it so hard not to fall in love and very protective of him. As the pregnant Jean moves into the apartments above the Dive Bar, life for Eric will never be the same. Their story is about new beginnings, emotional growth and finding out that sometimes putting someone else first is no real sacrifice when it is in the name of love.
I ADORED this book and the characters! I loved the way Scott flawlessly blended the combination of a sweet and sexy romance.
Chaser is Eric’s story in the Dive Bar Series, and boy does he have a story to tell us. He is the bartender and part owner of the bar. He also has a not so good track record with relationships. Since he is getting closer to thirty and his friends and family are settling down, he thinks it is time for him to consider it. He has it all mapped out about how to go about dating. That was hilarious. He has no idea how complicated relationships and dating can be. When he sees a beautiful woman he has never seen before in the bar, he really believes this is the woman is going to date. Life is about to show him exactly how complicated and messy relationships can be. Imagine his surprise when he discovers his love interest is his friend, Nell’s friend, and she is VERY PREGNANT! I knew I would love watching Eric fall in love, and I was right!
Jean has come to town to start a new life for herself and her unborn baby. She doesn’t want any complications, so when Eric starts acting like a jerk, she is relieved. However, Eric is one of her neighbors, so she will have to see him. As time passes, the two develop a friendship, and the attraction between them becomes harder to ignore.
Eric was already irresistible, but he becomes even more so when Jean and her baby wrap him around their little fingers. Oh, my heart just turned to mush. There isn’t anything more attractive than a man who loves a baby!
The book is written entirely from Eric’s POV which I found refreshing. It gave me a deeper look into who Eric was as a person, and the man has a heart of gold. He was such a huge support system to Jean, and when he was there for Ada’s birth, he was a goner from that point on. That was very evident, and that was another reason I loved seeing his POV. It brought me to tears of joy. He, Jean, and Ada make the perfect little family. He loves his girls, and he will do everything in his power to protect them.
Scott never rushed their relationship. Their friendship gradually developed
over time, even when there was a powerful attraction just below the surface. That made the book even more realistic.
As much as this was a love story between a couple, this was also a love story about friendship and family. I have always been a fan of The Dive Series, and this made me become an even bigger one.

If you have read this series before, you have met Eric. I mean what’s not to love?! The Eric Bubble must be a great place to live!
Just for an example, he has met this girl for 2 seconds and already decided she will be his girlfriend. ‘I wanted to have sex with Jean. And be the one to listen to her talk and get to eat with her, etcetera (insert boring boyfriend stuff here).’
Boy does he get a shock. Enter baby bump!!!!
The story just flowed, so easy and enjoyable to read. Before I knew it I was at 64% and I was totally #TeamEric! This was a funny, beautiful addition to the series.
PS Caroline and her baby advice was spot on. Caroline’s are so resourceful!
PPS Mal! Yes!
Audio Review from 2018
This story started off a shade slow but built up nicely.
This is the story of how a man falls in love after realizing his playboy ways need to change.
It’s adorable how everyone around him sees it first!
The epilogue was adorable and quirky and totally fit the characters!
High octane emotional race! All the feels are competing to win the race in this book! Indy is a female racer in a sea of men. When her out crew chief had a heart attack she calls a friend for a recommendation. What she is expecting is a grandpa like man…. what’s she gets is sex on a stick! There’s so much banter and tension in this book. Add in the racing turmoil, bogus charges and someone out to get her and you have one heck of a book! I couldn’t put this down! I loved every freaking chapter! The characters are great! The story line is fast paced and engaging and the end leaves you with vindication and warm fuzzies!
Such a sweet friends-to-lovers / reformed playboy love story. Eric was not my favorite in the first two books in the series. But he really grew up in this one. I loved how his character development was gradual. He didn’t change his ways too quickly, but it was a slower, more realistic shift. And I loved how we got to see Jean and Eric as friends for a while before things progressed. It made their happily ever after all the sweeter.
There were a few obvious timeline errors and typos in this book that really bugged me which is why I have only given 3 stars but the story itself was good.
This book, I couldn’t wait to read it! I wanted to know why he was the way he was and the heroine who stole his heart, well she was a tough cookie for sure! This book made me fall in love with them both and I adored being able to read about each couple coming into their own in this series!
I bought the audio book of this and Will Damron was a great narrator, thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Eric was immediately attracted to Jean when he first saw her, but Jean was 7 months pregnant and he decided avoiding her was his best option. He didn’t want any complications and figured a single mom would be a huge one. Jean was new to Idaho, she was warned off Eric and his womanizing ways by their friend Nell. I really liked Jean, but I didn’t really care much for Eric in the previous books or the beginning of this one for that matter. He did redeem himself to me however. Will Eric be able to settle down? Will Jean listen to what everyone else has to say about Eric or will she let his actions speak for themselves? This was probably my least favorite of the three books in this series, but still a good read.
You’d think there wasn’t anything redeemable in Eric, but this book – totally from his perspective – shows he’s finally ready to grow up. Jean comes with a package, and his inner ramblings and cogitations as he comes to grips with it all is wonderful. Glad to see Mal again – sh!t stirrer as always. Really enjoyed the totally male voice.
It was a really good read , i loved Eric ,he’s so funny ,i don’t get why everyone was always of his case ,like they were so perfect ! but everyone see’s a different side to Eric once he falls head over ass in love with Jean ! it was a great to see him find someone who meshed well with him 🙂
I liked Jean ,she was a good character and i liked that she didn’t let people push her around and make big life decisions for her ,she stood up for herself and that was great to see ,i loved how she and Eric interacted they were kinda made for each other .
Overall a great add to the series 🙂
Poor Eric, he’s such a man-whore and wants to change his ways. Jean catches his eye until she stands up and reveals a surprise. We watched him become an instant birth partner with hilarious results. I loved his interactions with this little girl, we watched him grow up and take responsibility. Will his friendship with Jean become more? I enjoyed watching this story unfold, it started slow then took off and I couldn’t put it down. Well done Ms Scott, another entertaining read.
Another wonderful book by this author.
Loved the story. It was so great that the whole book was written from a male point of view. I had so much fun reading it 🙂 He was an amazing hero and I loved that he was so persuasive and determined. And his gentle side – swoon. I love when a man can show emotions – let it be for women, animals or in this case babies.
I highly recommend it!
I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*
The Dive Bar series has been the first one from Kylie Scott which I’ve enjoyed immensely! (on that note please read Trust by the same author!)
Eric has been known to be a man with a teenager’s brain. Sad but true, he prefers to have fun and be a cocky ass, but a loyal friend at the same time. When pregnant Jean arrives in town and moves next to Eric, a strange relationship will begin, which will slowly evolve through the book.
There is quiet beauty in love that blossoms slowly and even more despite the demands of being a newly single mother. I loved the support Jean had from everyone around her, even Eric when he pulled his head out of his ass. Their banter was very good and I also liked the dialogue Eric and Joe had too!
Overall, the book was a delightful read with characters you can’t help but root for!
Chaser by Kylie Scott is the third book in her Dive Bar series. A wonderfully awkward story of the man-whore and the pregnant neighbor. Eric is part owner of the bar and a notorious man-whore. He is a great guy but he has never committed and none of his friends ever expect him to. When Jean moves into town and into the apartment upstairs as his new neighbor all bets are off. He tries to stay away for her sake, for the sake of everyone calling him out, but his emotions towards her are unique. He is ready to be there for Jean in ways he has never even considered being for any other woman in his life. The awkward circumstances lead to them becoming fast friends and building a bond that may not have grown otherwise. Powerful, emotional and angsty – I LOVED THIS! Enjoy!
I sort of became an instant fan of Kylie Scott after reading Trust and I was super stoked to see what else she had to offer. Chaser was definitely not a disappointment, though to be honest, it was pretty much a home run when I saw that the heroine was pregnant when she meets the hero. I’m basically trash for stories where the male lead is an unapologetic man slut (but not in a bad way), then fights tooth and nail when confronted with the one woman that makes him actually FEEL, and proceeds to fall head over heels for her. That’s definitely the case with Eric and Jean and it has the added bonus of him falling in love with her baby as well! The tension that was created because of the contentious relationship between Eric and Nell (which totally made me want/need to read the first two books in the series to get the background on all of that) and between Jean and her parents elevated the book above standard romance fluff. I loved Jean and Eric as characters and their chemistry was just delicious! I can’t wait to devour more from Kylie Scott and I hope we get more in the Dive Bar series. 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
Eric is a man who doesn’t like to see his Jean upset, “what’d you do?” I yelled at a wide-eyed Boyd. The big man cringed, gaze darting from Jean to me and back again. “Did you say something?” Given Boyd was an elective mute, it was highly unlikely. But you never knew.” Jean is just too sweet, “only to have her point to her breasts. “I said, I can show them to you sometime if you want.” There are some lines Eric doesn’t like to be crossed, “let’s not talk about my mom while we’re naked.” I loved this book, I loved Eric. He and Jean were made for each other.
Eric’s your typical bar owner hottie. He loves women, and spending time with them, intimately. I really thought I was going to hate Eric based off of that persona as well as how his friends and family perceived him. I could not have been more wrong. After watching his brother find a happy ever after, Eric’s beginning to see things in a different light. Meeting Jean, wasn’t the plan to fall for her. A night of passion, yeah, but finding out she’s pregnant can stop any man in his tracks. But there’s a connection between them. Eric is able to just be himself without the judgement he’s used to. And when Jean’s baby arrives a whole new side of Eric opens up. He’s still carefree and lovable but Jean and her daughter give him something to be proud of.
I was honestly taken by surprise with how emotional this book made me feel. There’s no terrible past from Jean about her child’s father. There’s no cataclysmic event to force Eric to decide what he wants. This a story about two people (technically three with the baby lol) who fall for each other all out of order. But who are we to judge. You never know what a relationship looks like to the two people in it. And Chaser is the soothing balm after the rough and rich stories of Vaughn and Joe. Scott couldn’t have done a better job on Eric’s story!
