Piper Griffiths wants one thing in life: To become a Consul, a keeper of the peace between humans and daemons. There are precisely three obstacles in her way.
The first is Lyre. Incubus. Hotter than hell and with a wicked streak to match. His greatest mission in life is to get Piper into bed and otherwise annoy the crap out of her. The second is Ash. Draconian. Powerful. Dangerous. He knows too … He knows too much and reveals nothing. Also, disturbingly attractive — and scary. Did she mention scary?
The third is the Sahar Stone. Top secret magical weapon of mass destruction. Previously hidden in her Consulate until thieves broke in, went on a murder spree, and disappeared with the weapon.
And they left Piper to take the fall for their crimes.
Now she’s on the run, her dreams of becoming a Consul shattered and every daemon in the city gunning to kill her. She’s dead on her own, but there’s no one she can trust — no one except two entirely untrustworthy daemons . . . See problems one and two.

This book is fast pace and I love all the characters! It has a little bit of everything to appeal to most readers; action, fantasy, friendships, and a little bit of romance!
I LOVE this series as a whole! Annette can skillfully write fight scenes and build a world you want to get lost in!!!! I can’t praise this series enough!
AND she’s been working on the next book in the series “Blackfire” (in 2021) so I’m ANXIOUSLY looking forward to that!
Pew, I think my heart may have taken some damage. This books keeps you on edge all the time, it’s fast paced, action pack and just, unstoppable! When you think, okay, now, now it can’t go more wrong or any worse, it freaking does!!!
“Would somebody tell me what the hell is going on?” Lyre snarled.
“Spider,” Ash replied, examining his palm.
“A spider?” Lyre repeated mutinously.
“A freaking huge spider,” Piper corrected, half angry, half humiliated. “Crawling up my leg. It got in my shirt!”
“Can you blame it? I’d want to get in your shirt too.”
“Lyre, this is not the time.”
“According to you, it’s never the time.”
“How is not using glamour cheating?”
“Lyre is less attractive with his glamour,” Ash said unexpectedly. “By our standards, I should say.”
Piper blinked in surprise. Lyre looked amazed too.
“Do mine ears deceive me, Ash? Did you just say you’re attracted to me?”
“Your ears deceive you.”
Some girls were attracted to danger. Piper was smarter than that. Yeah, she was. Definitely.
I loooove all things Annette Marie and this series might be my favorite of hers. ASH
Loved Piper, Ash and Lyre. This book is an action packed paranormal fantasy. I highly recommend this series.
Annette Marie is the proverbial pot of gold: an author who consistently delivers high quality well written, well edited, grammatically correct, original, entertaining stories. She invites you into her worlds and you never want to leave.
Every time I finish one of her books, my first thought is to read it again, to savor the characters, their development, and their relationships. The relationships developed in her books, both friendships and romantic, develop gradually, revealing layers and connections that strengthen over time. She creates people, not tropes.
Her plots are strong, complex, and keep you riveted. The worlds she creates are internally consistent and vividly imagined.
I realize this is a generic sort of review, but I plan to leave it for all her books. From the Red Winter series (mythic Japan); to the Steel & Stones series, including Piper and Ash, and the Lyre and Clio books; and the Guild Codex series, now including the Robin Piper demon-training: I have yet to find anything less than pure enjoyment, and great respect for her talent.
WOW!!! I was pulled in from the beginning! Fabulous fantasy world, I absolutely love this series of books, the action starts straight away, and the characters are well defined early on and blossom throughout the series, you can feel the tension building between the main characters and each book always leaves you wanting more. The sub plots plus twists and turns keep you surprised and intrigued. Be warned though once you start reading this series you won’t be able to put the books down so be prepared for some binge reading.
I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, I now have a new favorite series and a new favorite author!! I cannot stress enough how absolutely amazing this book is! This book surpassed all of my expectations and then some. It has everything that I love about young adult books. I simply could not stop reading.
What I liked
These characters are perfection! I instantly fell in love with the three main characters in this series. They are magical. And the way that they flow off of one another’s chemistry is flawless.
The character development is amazing! The backstories and the little things that make up who a character really is shine through. I felt like I knew these characters on a personal level. I felt what they felt and experienced things with them. I just felt so close to them.
While this story is based on other popular ideas, the way that Annette Marie fashioned it is wholly unique. I have never read anything like it. I loved the world that Annette Marie created in this book. I was devouring every detail and I couldn’t get enough!
The plot is catching and well thought out. The whole story flows so nicely. There are twists and turns to keep you guessing. All of the elements of a great story are perfectly balanced to keep you wanting more and more.
I loved the writing style. The story is written very fluidly, taking you exactly where you need to go at exactly the right time. It’s brilliant.
What I didn’t like
Thinking the series over in my head, I can’t come up with a single thing that I disliked while I was reading this series. Not a thing. Seriously. I think that only thing that I dislike is that it comes to an end.
Would I Recommend It
YES, OMG, YES!!! Get. This. Series. NOW!! If you pick up this series you will not be disappointed. It is rare that a book or a book series touches me so deeply, but this one has become my new favorite. I haven’t felt this passionate about a book series in a long time.
09/09/2018: I literally just finished re-reading this series two days ago and I have already started book one again! I seriously cannot get these characters or this world out of my mind. I never want to leave! Book hangover to the max. I love this series so much it brings me actual physical pain from all the feels. <3

Review:
I liked this book. I was very interested in Ash’s story. I like him in The Shadow Weavers series and really wanted to know how his story would develop.
I was really happy to see Lyre again although I found it difficult to see him with other women and flirting with Piper but I know it’s something he has to do. So I got over that ahah.
I’m not a massive fan of Piper. I mean I liked her but I didn’t love her. She’s a bit immature, naive and over confident. A bit of a know it all but is still stuck under her fathers thumb. I don’t like that man. When he ask Piper to jump, she might give him attitude and refuses but in the end she always asks how high.
What is this book about:
This book is about Ash. We meet him in The Shadow Weaver series. Ash is a draconian. A very powerful demon caste from the underworld. Ash “works”for the hades family that kind of runs the underworld.
We also see Lyre again, for those of you who haven’t read the Spell Weaver series (do it now) Lyre is a incubus, also a demon caste from the underworld. He and Ash are friends and are usually seen together when they are on earth.
On one of their visits to the consulate on Earth, they meet Piper. Piper is a consul in training. Her father is the boss of that consulate.
The story starts with something big happening in the consulate and things go horrible wrong. It results in Piper, Lyre and Ash being fugitives and on the run for something Piper things non of them did. Piper is willing to do anything to make this right and clear her fathers and uncles names.
What did I like about this book:
I really liked learning more about Ash. Not that he is such a big sharer of secrets but we do get little bits. I also like seeing Lyre again. I found it funny to know things about him that other don’t. Secrets he isn’t sharing that I already know.
I liked seeing their journey and how the story is being set up.
Piper annoyed me at times. She kind of needs to learn better timing and wording. Sometimes I thought well she’s learning and is getting better. She is broadening her view but then she would say or do something that made me thing other wise. I don’t fully blame her, everything she thought she knew, her future is being turned up side down and she has a hard time cooping with that. But at some point I though come one girl, keep those eyes open.
I look forward to reading more about Piper, Lyre and Ash.
