They say blood is thicker than water, but I was never proud of mine. A female born into the Kamlock bloodline was destined to possess three things they couldn’t change—a crazy as hell mother, an unfair amount of beauty, and a Charmed soul that was as black as night. All a Kamlock woman ever desired in life was to use her beauty to destroy wealthy men and take their riches. A century had passed … passed since a generation of Kamlock sisters had been anything other than gold diggers.
All I ever wanted was to be free of them. I knew I couldn’t change my cursed birth, but I could change its legacy. I had a job, I had friends, and I was slowly gaining my independence.
Until Rathe Scott crashed into my life and tore it apart.
He made me feel what I had spent my entire life never wanting to feel. He brought out a darkness I’d not known was inside me. And just when I thought I was becoming everything I had sworn I would never become…
He was gone.

Ready for your next Abbi Glines obsession? Gosh this book was so good. Not only is she the queen of romance but she is definitely the queen of paranormal now in my book. What a great story. And this is just the beginning. Catalina is a caster. But she doesn’t see herself as evil like her family. She is about to discover how different she truly is. I loved her from the start. She is a strong female who fights to chose good every day. And she had a genuine heart. Enter a new mysterious man name Rathe. Right away I was drawn to how mysterious he was. Also Cat has developed a stalker who is also a mystery. This story kept me on my toes. Then it shocked the heck out of me. I loved where it went and I need more…right now! Paranormal fans need to read this book. Message me, so we can obsess together.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review!
Dammit Abbi Glines, what have you done to me?!?! I need book two ASAP!! I am loving the theme here, and the bombshells you dropped at the end, holy freaking moly!! I am team Rathe all the way, not that you ever implied there was another option! And as for Catalina’s family, they can just go screw themselves! They are not even worth Cat’s time and energy anymore! And what is with the cliffy and no time frame for when we’ll get book two?!?! I am loving this paranormal world you have given us and I am on board for all of it!! I will say I was getting a little annoyed with the “will they, won’t they”, but then I would remember that this is only book one and the slow roll was ok. However, some of the things that happen and that are said makes so much more sense when you gave me the bombshells at the end of this book! And now I am going to go and stalk you on social media to get more info in book 2!!
This is my first from Abbi Glines, I own a few of her novels already but have yet to start any of them, They will be moved up on my TBR now thanks to this one. I hardly ever go in reading reviews before starting a new book, the majority of the time I don’t even read the synopsis before starting my next read. Once I started this I couldn’t put it down, i had to finish in it one sitting and boy was it an amazing read. I can’t wait to jump into her back log now and get caught up on her novels.
Book received from The Next Step PR
This book has a lot of mixed reviews. People either love it or they hate it. I fall into the middle of them. Abbi is one of my favorite authors, and maybe I just had too high of expectations. Maybe contemporary is just her genre; I don’t know. But I have mixed feelings by this book.
It started out quite interesting. Catalina is a witch, one born with a black soul that urges her to attract men, make them fall in love with them, and ultimately conveniently they end up dead while the women capitalize on their death. Catalina shies away from her curse and avoids men to avoid leading them to their death. I was so intrigued by the concept of the curse.
Unfortunately, Catalina really fell short for me. She avoids her curse, but personally, I would have preferred if she didn’t . Rathe ends up immune to her, so it would have actually been more interested (and funny) if she tried to use her curse on Rathe only to find it not working and for real feelings to emerge. This book is about witches. Why must the main characters always try to be good? I would rather a dark paranormal in which she embraced her witch curse. In the end, this just made her boring. She didn’t stand out in comparing her to Abbi’s other characters, despite her powers. She tries to be good, have her friends, and avoid men. She’s too goody. Too basic for a NA paranormal.
Ultimately, when Rathe shows up, she does decide to pursue this, just not at first. Other than that…not much happens in the book. They become friends. She hangs out with her other friends. And investigates the mysterious man that pops around at times. Basically, I was very bored reading this. It is a slow read. From 30-90%, I consistently looked at the percentage, hoping I was nearing the end.
As for the other characters, Rathe didn’t stand out to me either. I knew he was something because he didn’t react to her spells. He’s just there, until she decides to hook up with him. In fact, I quite hated him in the beginning. He flaunts other women in front of her, takes a new one out each night. He’s a player and didn’t exactly excite me. He’s not like Abbi’s other men. There’s her friends. One a girl friend, the other a guy friend that has had a long-term crush on her that she’s never noticed. Ultimately, they are all fairly two-dimensional and I didn’t love any of them.
At this point, I’m rating it 3 stars. Then the final 10% happened and it got quite good and extremely interesting, and does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. We find out about Rathe and the mysterious man, and more about Catalina that will really set the stage for book 2. So now we’re talking 4 stars and a reader who is quite eager for book 2.
Overall, it was a good book, just not a great one. I think more could have been done to the middle (or made it shorter), I think the characters could have been more developed, and a romance should have also been more developed. I see a definite decline in Abbi’s writing quality and execution, but positive feelings toward her ideas and storytelling. I will continue the series, and even look forward to it. I hope now that groundwork has been laid, book 2 will be more exciting as well
When I read a description of this story I was excited. I love a good witch story. When I started to read the story it took me a really really long time to get into it. I kept starting then putting it down and coming back to it. I was a little disappointed with the start of this. I was confused at times and would have to reread chapters. But as the story continued I am so glad I finished reading it.
Towards the end of the book the story really gets moving and things start to unravel. The truth behind Catalina’s existence becomes clear. I am very curious to see where this story will continue and I really hope the next book in this series really takes us on a ride.
Carmed Souls caught my attention from the beginning.
It has everything: mystery, intriguing characters, magic and romance. And many parts that gave me goosebumps.
Abbi Glines did an incredibly job creating this magical story.
4 bewitching stars
I’ve never read anything from this Author before so I wasn’t sure what to expect…..I wasn’t disappointed that I signed up to read this one. This book was very entertaining and magical. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.
My first Abbi Glines book was Existence back in the day when indie authors were just starting out. This is the book that made me fall in love with her writing. Can you imagine my excitement at the news she was going to write a new paranormal? Then I got nervous. What if it didn’t live up to the Existence Trilogy for me? But I dove in and thank goodness I did!
Charmed Souls charmed the hell out of me! Sassy southern witches? Yes, please! Thank you Abbi for going back to PNR because you are a superstar! Needless to say, I am dying for the next book!
This was my first PNR book from Abbi Glines and wow, I loved every word. I kinda went into this book blind just excited that it was an Abbi Glines book and she didn’t disappoint me.
I was completely charmed and enraptured from beginning to end. I loved this sassy witches. The suspense was everything and mixed in with the passion, love and so many other emotions Abbi has done a superb job with this one.
I can’t wait to see what happens next with this series and I am extremely tempted to pick this book up and read it again!
4 STARS
It’s been a while since I’ve read a paranormal romance, and I was intrigued with this one. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Rathe and Cat, both are characters I’d like to know more about. This book is the first in the Black Souls series and I can’t wait to read the next instalment.
Charmed Souls by Abbi Glines is a MUST read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!
Loved it!
What a wonderful story. Captivating from start to finish. An absolute joy to read. I cannot wait for book #2 in the series.
I don’t read many PNR, but I DO read any and everything written by Abbi Glines. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one.
Charmed Souls is Book #1 in the Black Soles Series. The Kamlock witches are known for the beauty; an outer beauty that does not reflect their inner beauty. They use their beauty to manipulate and captivate rich men. Catalina Kamlock didn’t have a choice in who her family is. As one of the Kamlock witches, she beautiful and powerful, but she isn’t like her mother or sisters. Catalina is different. She wants to use her beauty and power for good, not for evil, but of course this causes her to be an outcast and targeted. When she meets Rathe Scott, Catalina’s life takes an even bigger turn. Their instant attraction is hot and their chemistry is evident.
I really enjoyed this story. Sometimes people wish for the beauty of others thinking that it is the answer to all their problems while others wish to look different in order to live a different type of life. This is a story of how outer beauty doesn’t always reflect the inner beauty. It also shows how some people (rich men) are attracted to a beauty that can destroy them due to their own vanity and their own unwillingness to look beneath the surface.
OhMyWord. This book is freaking good. It so darn good from start to finish. It kept me wanting more and more. Cat and Rathe, OhMgee, that’s all I can say. I’m so stoked that Abbi is back into writing Paranormal. This is a must Read. Cursed Souls needs to be out like now, especially with that ending!!!!
“This was my void. My time of worship when I gave what I was to the earth and allowed it to control me.”
WOW! I absolutely loved Charmed Souls! I NEED MORE STAT! I forgot how well Abbi Glines does paranormal. This series is well on its way to becoming my favorite by her! I was entranced with this story from the start. It’s unique and unlike any paranormal I have personally read before. The suspense really pulls you in. Every page kept my mind spinning and the questions turning. I love a good mystery and Charmed Souls definitely has me intrigued. I also enjoyed so many characters this story. With Duely and Margo are at the top of that list. Everyone can relate to having a crazy bestfriend and cousin. They added some much needed humor and spark to lighten the tension. I may or may not secretly be pulling for them so I’ll be curious to see how things go!
“I can’t get it out of my head. The feel of your body, the way you taste, I can’t stop thinking about it.”
Catalina is one of those heroines you instantly love. You just connect with her character right away. I admired her determination and mind set. She knew what she wanted in life and refused to settle for less. However Catalina was definitely naive at times. I felt she dismissed things to easily. I found myself wanting to shake her more than once. But really that’s just me being picky I truly loved Catalina’s sass and character.
“The greedy hunger to hold on to him as tightly as I could, terrified me; yet, I knew that terror wasn’t enough to stop me.”
Heath drew me in from the very start. Like a moth to flame I couldn’t help being enthralled by his charm. He was the perfect combination of cocky, smooth and mysterious. He oozed charm and knew how to make you swoon. Heath’s character knew just how to keep you on your toes. I desperately wanted to know all his secrets. I feel Heath’s character is going to be one of the most complex yet.
“You are going to fucking destroy me, and I will relish every moment.”
*5 STARS*
Well earned, from characters to plot I enjoyed it all. Charmed Souls is going straight into my best reads of 2020 folder. I highly recommend reafing this book.
It has been a while since I’ve read pnr. That being said I was excited to read this one because I love Abbi Glines previous pnr books.
The first part of the book was very slow. That could be due to the introduction of the characters and the background. Catalina is born into a family of witches. The Kamlock women are heartless, selfish, unfeeling women who use their beauty to attract men and use them for everything they’ve got. Cat fights to be the exact opposite of her horrible Mother and two sisters. Cat goes to lengths to dissuade herself to men. She is happy with her life with her two close friends and her cousin.
Things change for Cat when Rathe moves in with her two best friends. Cat and Rathe have an immediate attraction but try very hard to just be friends. When that doesn’t workout is when things start to pick up.
The end of the book is when things start to get exciting and the books ends with a cliffhanger and lots of unanswered questions. The end of this book sets up the next book to be be exciting and I’m definitely looking forward to it.
Amazing! This is the beginning of an amazing trilogy! I read this book in one sitting! Rathe and Cat’s story certainly started with a bang! So many twists that I didn’t see coming. I was just completely blown away by the ending of this book! Just AMAZING! FIVE HUGE STARS!
was extremely excited when I saw that abbi was going to do another pnr series and I couldn’t wait to read it,charmed souls is a really good start to a very promising new series!!!!
I will say the book starts out pretty slow and I did start to get a little worried, but wow stick with it just when you think you have it all worked out you realise you knew nothing and boom your hooked and glued to the pages .
If you are a lover of pnr and stories with plot twists that keep you hooked, of super hot Angel’s demons witches and worlocks go grab this book you will not be disappointed .
This series is going to be amazing and I cannot wait to continue with book 2 in the soul series ……

REVIEW:
This book was what I expected and then some and by that I mean it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY CAPTIVATING! I may be a little biased seeing as how I have always been a big Abbi Glines fan. My favorite of all her books I’ve read has always been the the Existence Trilogy so when finding out she was stepping back into the paranormal romance world for this one I knew I had to sign up to read this and help promote it. I not only got the ARC copy but bought a copy as well. All of that aside if you’ve read any of her books you will know just how talented of an author she truly is. This story and the characters in it are wonderful and the names are unique.
[ Catalina Kamlock is anything but ordinary no matter how hard she tries to live a normal life with a family like hers it’s impossible. No matter how much she denies being a Kamlock it’s in her blood. Her powers and charm she tries to hide from everyone feels more like a curse. Avoiding her b!tch mother and wicked sisters she works all the time to save up so she can one day live on her own. When her two friends Heath and Margo get a new roommate Cat does what she always does to men who show interest in her but Rathe he’s proving to be different. Rathe is attractive and he knows it from his smell, to his intense steel blue eyes, and that smirk there is no denying it.When he starts worming his way into her life and seeming to know more then most she can’t seem to keep her attraction for him under wraps much longer. With a stranger appearing and things spiraling out of control Cat is realizing everything is not what it seems and there are things she doesn’t know. And it turns out she isn’t the only one with a secret. ]
Once I started reading this story I couldn’t stop. You get hooked in wanting to know more and the next thing you know when some secrets unfold your left at a cliff. Abbi you are a cruel but brilliant woman. This book has it all: witches and warlocks, friendship, mystery, hot desire/romance, delightful characters and it leaves you wanting more. A must read and hands down the easiest 5 star review I’ve written in a while.
I liked this book with all its magic and confusion. The story has me wondering if Rathe is truthful or just saying what Cat wants to hear. Is it true or is he calculating something, making “ Chess moves”? Rathe is definitely the one guy to watch out for, because he kind of has a duel personality, he was there for Cat when her father shows up but then vanishes when she needs answers from him. I can’t wait to find out what happens when he comes back in the second book, Also if Cat is stronger more confident in the second book. She knows more now about herself and her background so I’m excited to see how she handles things.
I really enjoyed this- only complaint was it was too short! Would rather have had one finished story than 3 smaller cliffhangers, but I am definitely excited to read more! If you read and liked Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, you’ll love Charmed Souls! 4.5 stars
*Thank you to the author and The Next Step PR for my review copy. My opinion is honest and left voluntarily*
