Do you believe in love at first sight? At 18 Adeline is visiting New York for the summer. A chance encounter meeting Mitch turns into a day of adventure. But she heads home to Australia the next day leaving them both with a giant ‘What If’.
A second chance romance 10 years in the making. He belongs to a powerful family and his mother wants nothing more than for her son to marry a socialite. She is back in NY looking to make a name for herself in photography. When they see each other again, they are instantly drawn to each other. But as you can guess, his family is anything but thrilled.
Nice twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.
My only issue was the change in writing from 1st to 3rd person. Each time it switched it stopped the flow of the story for me.
Eighteen-year-old Adeline has one last day in the Big Apple before heading back home to Australia. She didn’t expect to spend it with Mitch Morris, an attractive, wealthy stranger she meets on her last day as a tourist. Their instant connection is undeniable, and the day beyond memorable for both of them.
Though when Adeline returns to New York City ten years later with the intent of furthering her photography career, she doesn’t immediately try to reconnect, figuring he’s likely achieved the lofty career goals he once held, and is likewise paired up with the perfect wife and 2.5 children that come with the level of success she expects he’s earned. Mitch, on the other hand, spies her before she ever sees him, is fortuitously just out of a bad relationship, and never forgot the Australian beauty. He soon engineers a way for them to reunite, and it’s like no time has passed.
The catch? Adeline has now landed a job working for Mitch’s mother, Jacqueline. The other catch? Jacqueline is an impossible, scheming dragon lady who, for reasons of her own, has other plans for her “favorite” son. That’s just the tip of the iceberg that is the Morris family web of drama. Thankfully, Adeline is a tough cookie, and Mitch’s devotion unwavering. Though that doesn’t mean it’s smooth sailing for the pulchritudinous pair. Adeline’s career may hang in the balance as the swinging pendulum that is Jacqueline Morris’s favor goes against her while Mitch’s family starts to fall apart in ways he never imagined. Mitch may be set on Adeline, but it’s enough to send any woman running swiftly in the other direction.
With well-developed characters both likeable and detestable, the amount of drama befitting the New York elite, deliciously steamy sex scenes, and a surprise side-helping of mouth-watering food porn woven in, this is a damn good start to what promises to be an exciting and enticing romance series!
I so loved this book. I could not put it down. I am just so glad that Adeline made it back to the United States. I am also so happy that Olivia left because she was a cold selfish b**ch. Mitch deserved a sweet and loving woman and he got that with Adeline. Now Mitch’s mother is someone that needs to mind her own business and stay out of her son’s life. I also loved it when she got put in her place when her youngest son Thomas got arrested for assault. The rich think they can get away with anything even assault. I hope Thomas has to spend the 25 years in jail. Thank you for the wonderful book, I really enjoyed it.
I really loved everything about Addie and Mitch! Their story was a true fairytale come to life. Once I started it was hard to put down, I think the pages turned on their own! This story was just sweet and pure and an absolute winner as a first book from Brooke Ellis! Can’t wait for book 2!
I loved (LOVED!) Addie & Mitch’s meet cute!! I thought their chemistry and attraction to each other were so sweet! It was a great book, and although Mitch’s mother made me so crazy (gahhhhh!), I loved seeing them find each other again. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! I need more!!
~3.5 STARS
This is a new to me author and from looking into things, this is her first book as well. She’s talented and I look forward to following her career. I enjoyed this book. There were a few things that were not for me but overall I liked it. The parts that didn’t sit well with me are the “instalove” aspect of his feelings for her and the fact that a few things left me confused. I hope that with the next book (or books) that we get those answers. Adeline and Mitch are great in their own right, but together I’m not sold yet. I hope that changes with the next book. I will be finishing this series. I enjoy this book and the author.
