Ashley and Patty decide to expand their business to a food truck. When they find one they can afford they buy it! When the go to pick it up and the seller is found dead. Since he was old and had no family the police weren’t making it a top priority so Ashley and Patty decide they must solve it. I love these Seagrass Sweet books. The more of them I read the more I love finding the depth of the characters. This one was really good. I highly recommend this book and this author and series! It’s funny, light, adventure packed and just a good clean wholesome book! You can never go wrong with a Sandi Scott book!
Perhaps I was not in the mood for a simple, cozy mystery. This book was hard for me to finish as I found it too simplistic. The dialog seemed too ordinary. I had the impression the author was rushed to complete this book. The story is cute, but I became irritated with the main characters when they seemed to be the only ones investigating the murder. It was an ok read for me, but I’m sure others will enjoy it.
I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
Wonderful characters and pets. A good cozy mystery story with plenty of suspects who do not look good or have a motive for murder. Patty and Ashley are growing and their catering business is expanding. Loved the part of how they painted the new food truck, it was really very clever. Enjoy this series very much and look forward to each new book.
Food truck/dead body
Here they go again! Ashley and Patty are not only accomplished at cooking but also in finding dead bodies and solving the murder. Their search for the right food truck to expand their business isn’t as simple as it may seem. Same great characters, new story, and terrific writing make this a must read!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Ashley and Patty are ready to purchase a food truck to expand their catering businesses. They finally find a truck they can afford, but when they arrive to pick up the truck they find more than they are looking for, a dead body. Did the victim died of natural causes or was he murdered?
Ashely, Patty, Ryan, and the pups are back for a new investigation. Ashley and Patty’s business partnership and friendship are stronger than ever. However, Ashley feels Ryan is becoming a little distance since moving in with her. I feel this adds a realistic aspect to the storyline because most relationships, especially when a couple is living together, have ups and downs. We are introduced to a new character in this book Beth Sanchez, the officer in charge while Detective Luna is on vacation. Sanchez seems like she will be a great addition to the series, I wish we saw her a little more in this book. Even though the pups, Dash and Dizzy, aren’t in the book a lot, they put a smile on my face when they are in a scene. The mystery and other sub-plots in the book keep the reader engaged and entertained. This can be enjoyed as a stand-alone mystery as well as part of the series.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.
“Charlotte Murder” earns 5/5 Food Trucks…Engaging Fun!
A new venture…a new truck…a new murder! Ashley Adams and BFF Patty LaFontaine have been enjoying great success with their Southern Bird Catering, so they feel the time is right to expand by getting a food truck and taking their savory and sweet delights on the road. Their first choice is perfect with a price tag that doesn’t just break the bank, it destroys it, so they need to rethink the “custom-built” idea and look for something more…worn, yet functional. After wheelin’ and dealin’ for a “used” truck and getting a seal of approval from their mechanic, they’re ready to make a deal…but is the dead body part of the package? Barney, used-truck salesman extraordinaire, is found dead in his trailer. The detective-in-charge believes natural causes, but Ashley knows better. Convincing the authorities is challenging, so an independent investigation may be necessary. Closer to home, boyfriend extraordinaire Ryan is acting strange, food truck prep has its ups and downs, and keeping the business going is still a dream come true.
Sandi Scott once more has penned a very entertaining mystery making this series a big favorite of mine…sweet delights, French savories, and murder, what’s not to like? The murder mystery is engaging with several suspects that have reasonable motives, but I was challenged to uncover the truth myself…I like that. Although circumventing law enforcement is typical for many cozies, Ashley and Patty try to stay within the idea of legal. I am more partial to the first-person narrative, but Sandi kept me engaged with a delightful third-person perspective laying out the mystery and providing vivid descriptions along with entertaining banter. I love all the “menu” talk! Mouthwatering! I enjoy the whole seven-book series, which includes a prequel, and highly recommend this book. Even though time has passed and characters and relationships are evolving, newbies can start here without spoilers effecting going back and ready the previous books.
“Disclosure: I received an ARC. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.”
Charlotte Murder is a fine addition to the series, which is skillfully written with a tight plot and believable characters. This time the girls stumble across a murder victim while shopping for a new food truck. I was given this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Charlotte Murder is another interesting mystery from Sandi Scott. I love the Seagrass Sweets mysteries. There is an entertaining and interesting mix of characters plus Dizzy and Dash, the dogs. There are always too many clues and suspects so the plot is interesting. I highly recommend this book.
Cozy Murder in Texas
Another Texas murder surrounded by French Food. How can these women constantly eat all of this rich food and never get fat? This is a fun story in the Sea Grass Sweets series. The plot is fairly straightforward. There are several suspects, plenty of opportunity and no motives. All of the characters are realistic. Many could be people you know. I particularly like the cranky bar manager. This is a good episode in a fun series. I’m glad that I can’t gain weight by reading about rich food! I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
Ashley and Patty set out to buy their dream food truck. After selecting a used truck that can be modified to their dream, they return to pick it up. They discover the owner dead in his trailer on the property. Did he die in his sleep? Or was he murdered. Join the twosome as they investigate, deal with boyfriend problems, and plan menus.
A great addition to the Seagrass Sweets Mystery series.
Advice: make sure you have eaten before reading and have a foodie dictionary handy.
All the food talk and descriptions will make you hungry especially if you know what they are. If you don’t that is where the dictionary will be handy, lol. Even though describe in book, I still had to look them up. At least the cover is a picture of the title.
Might even sidetrack you from the mystery of how the guy died. Ryan is acting in a way that makes Ashley feel even more insecure in their relationship. If fell for the rabbit trails because no one looked guilty but I got it because something hit me as being of in a scene that was not repeated till near the end.
Book can be read as a standalone just fine. Some references to previous books, like decision for food truck, but enough explanation to not worry about it.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Ashley and Patty are always an absolute hoot, and I love the quirky situations they frequently seem to find themselves in. This was a GREAT addition to the Seagrass Sweets cozy mystery series!
I loved this book and the series so far. The author is well versed in developing the characters and storyline. They buy a food truck to upgrade their business and find a dead body. Of course, they have to help the police by solving the mystery. This book has a second mystery in it also. The girl’s boyfriends are keeping secrets and they are very surprised when they find out what the secret is. This book is recommended to anyone who loves to read.
I received an arc copy of this book. I am leaving an honest review to help people decide if they want to read this book also. Read it and you’ll find out how much you will love it.
Disclaimer – received for ARC from Sandi Scott. Once again, Sandi does not disappoint. The stories are fun to read as we see the relationship with Ashley & her boyfriend grow. I like to seeing Patty having a bigger role helping Ashley with her murder cases. I look forward to seeing were the food truck will bring them next!
As usual, Sandi Scott has written another great cozy novel. Ashley and Patti compliment each other very well and the secondary characters (their men) are well suited to the ladies. A food truck is in their future and what would a “Seagrass Sweets” novel be without a difficult murder to solve? Well, this is not a spoiler, they buy their “baby” but can’t move forward without figuring out this “whodunit”. Just a good, clean, fun read.
Ashley Adams and her best friend Patty LaFontaine are ready to buy a food truck. They go to one place and are sticker shocked at the price, so the salesman sends them to another place,New Again Van and Truck. He did warn them to watch out for the owner and not let him ‘cheat them’ and have the van checked over by a third party. They go and find what they are looking for in their price range, and sign the papers with the agreement that the truck checks out with their mechanic. The next day, they show up for the appointment and can’t find Barney Smerna anywhere. Barney’s assistant comes out and they find Barney dead in his trailer on the property. Ashley figures out who really killed Barney and why but can she convince the police? Why is Ryan acting so strangely around her? Are they on the verge of breaking up? Read the book for the answers. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.
Wanting to expand their business, Patty and Ashley have been saving to buy a food truck. They realize that a new truck is not within their budget, they decide to buy a used one. What could possibly go wrong? A fun book series and I’m looking forward to their next adventure.
Charlotte Murder by Sandi Scott is another of her charming Seagrass Sweeets Cozy Mysteries featuring Patty LaFontaine and Ashley Adams as catering partners who are now looking into buying a food truck. They have talked about this in the past and have been saving their money only to discover that food trucks have jumped in price since the last time they went shopping. What to do? So they go down the street to a lot that has used food trucks, warning in mind, and do some shopping there. Barney Smerna, the owner, tries to foist some pretty poor examples off on them until it becomes obvious they know what they are doing. Then they are able to reach a deal. When they go to sign the papers the next morning, Barney is nowhere to be found, until he is discovered dead in his bed in his trailer at the back of the lot. This is really more than Ashley can deal with. Her boyfriend, Ryan, who has recently moved in with her, is behaving strangely, there is a ton of work to do, and Detective Luna is not on this case. Instead a new deputy, one from her past, Beth Sanchez, is leading the investigation.
Love these books! Ashley and Patty are entertaining as are their significant others, Ryan and Smoke Daddy Lee. The dogs, Dizzy and Dash are welcome comic relief. The peripheral characters are entertaining and have personalities. The plot was decent in this one, with Ashley soling the murder, where the police probably would not have. There was not danger to either her or Patty, which is a nice change of pace. And the food truck is ready to roll! You will enjoy this delightful cozy mystery. I recommend it!
I received a free ARC of Charlotte Murder in exchange for a fair and honest review.
French cuisine entrepreneurs Ashley and Patti check out the pros and cons of buying a new food truck to expand their business. When they decide to purchase one that fits their cooking needs and financial ability, they head to the dealer, and discover yet another murder! Not surprisingly, Ashley begins a hunt for the killer all the while worrying about the secret her live-in boyfriend, Ryan, is keeping from her. The duo discusses a variety of mouth-watering recipes to serve when catering, which for me is a particularly fascinating aspect to this book. As with the others in this entertaining cozy mystery series, the story ends much sooner than I was ready for it to end, but that leaves my mouth watering for more!
In this Seagrass Sweets Cozy Mystery by Sandi Scott, Patty LaFontaine and Ashley Adams, owners of the Southern Bird Catering Co. have saved money toward the purchase of a food truck. However, when they go to the new truck dealer they find that the cost of food trucks has increased considerably. The dealer tells them about a used truck dealer down the street. Barney Smerna, owner of New Again Van and Truck Resales, begins showing them trucks that are not up to Patty and Ashley’s standards. When he realizes they know what they want, they find a truck they can agree on if their mechanic agrees it is in good shape. The mechanic agrees and they return to the dealer with their down payment and an agreement to return the following day to complete the paperwork.
When they arrive they cannot find Barney. With the help of his employee, Rey Summers, they find Barney dead in his bed in the trailer on the back lot of the dealership. Beth Sanchez, an officer from Ashley’s past arrives on the scene to investigate. Detective Luna is not on this case. While Beth is quick to think Barney died of natural causes, the gals do not so they begin their independent investigation. There are many suspects — could it be Rhona Tobin, an old girlfriend of Barney’s and the manager of Mercy Me; Ozzie Eckles, a mechanic that doesn’t get along with Barney or Rey Summers.
Ashley is distracted since Ryan has been acting strange lately. They have just began living together and she thinks that could be the reason. He has also been hanging out with Patty’s boyfriend, Smoke Daddy Lee. Dash and Dizzy always add to the story as well.
This is a must read cozy mystery. I highly recommend it. Sandi Scott has another hit.
I received an advanced copy and this is my honest review.
