Travis MacGregor came to Oregon City to start over. Determined to put his past behind him, he believes a proper wife is all that’s missing from the proper life he’s always wanted. He has worked hard to establish his formal reputation as an upstanding and no-nonsense lawyer. However, the moment he meets Charlotte Taylor, he can’t fight his attraction despite her unconventional, hell-raising ways. ways.
Charlotte “Charlie” Taylor has been dressing like a man and wearing guns since her father kicked her out of the house when she was seventeen. She is perfectly happy with her life until she meets the insufferable Travis MacGregor. He claims to desire her, but how can she trust the new lawyer in town when he makes it no secret that he needs a proper wife to make his dreams come true. Charlie isn’t the “proper” anything, but that doesn’t stop her wayward heart from feeling things she never imagined possible.
But can he accept her as she is, or does he want her to change? To adapt? To become the proper, dress-wearing hostess of his dreams? And when the villain stalking Charlie comes to town, will the danger bring them together or tear them apart forever?

How can I not love Charlotte, who must have been named after my grandmother, gun toting and all (she was actually a farmers wife with a lot of the same characteristics of this Charlie). This book was fun and I give Travis all the credit in the world for keeping his patience with Charlie.
Easy read and good story.
Charlotte (nick named Charlie) is out riding and sees a rider who looks lost, watches him wondering back and forth, and finally rides up and says lost are you? Yes, it would appear so. I seemed to have gotten myself turned around. Can you point me in the direction of the road to Oregon City? I will, state’s Charlie. For a dollar. His eyes widened, then narrowed and he smiled. Well played. You have me over a barrel. Miss….? Charlie. Charlie Taylor. Thank That’s an unusual name for a woman as is the way tou are dressed. I’ve never seen a woman wearing pants and pistols before. So I’m at your mercy, we have a deal. I’ll pay you a dollar for showing me the road to Oregon City. Follow me……This is the VERY Basic beginning to a wonderfully romantic story I just loved and could not put down. I was given this and I voluntarily leave this review.
Good story telling…
Charlotte or Charlie is not a typical woman and that could become a problem when she meets Travis. Travis needs a woman who could be a good fit for his as a new lawyer. And that’s not the only problem they have to overcome.
Great story with fun main and side characters. This author has again written a very entertaining story.
I really wanted to like this book. There just isn’t any character development. The H and h are both muleheaded and indecisive about what type of relationship they are in. The h has several death attempts made on her life, but amazingly, she’s right back out in the street, exposing herself to the person who wants her dead. I forced myself to finish it, but that’s two hours I will never get back.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is a continuation of Cynthia Woolf’s “Brides of the Oregon Trail” series. This book is about Charlotte “Charlie” Taylor, who we have seen in past books.
Charlie is an unusual character because she refuses to wear dresses and will only answer to the name Charlie. Since this story takes place in 1854 in Oregon City, this is a very eccentric way to live. Yet, everyone Charlie knows accepts her the way she is. They treat her the same way they treat all women.
Travis MacGregor is an attorney who is escaping his life in Philadelphia. Travis bought companies to destroy them, and, afterwards, he sold them without a thought for the employees. Because of this, his life is in danger, so he needs to leave Philadelphia.
Travis chooses Oregon to start over again because his best friend, Ian, lives there. Ian is Charlie’s brother-in-law.
In spite of Charlie’s mannish ways, her thoughts and feelings are feminine. When Travis discovers he is attracted Charlie, he decides to court her. Unfortunately, before he gets a chance to do it, he and Charlie are “compromised.” Therefore, it is necessary for them to have a “shotgun wedding.”
I love the relationship between Charlie and Travis. Travis accepts her the way she is and even encourages her independence. He doesn’t expect her to change anything for him.
We met Charlotte(Charlie) in Rebecca, a headstrong lass who likes to wear pants and guns, she is not afraid of anything but falling in love and relying on a man. Travis moves to Oregon to start over with his law practice as he did not like the type of attorney he was on the East Coast. Sparks cannot help but fly when these two meet, but someone wants Charlie out of the way and Travis wants nothing more than to protect her. Can they both leave the past behind and move towards a better future together? This book was easy to read with great character building, you couldn’t help want to read what happened next.
Travis MacGregor and Charlotte “Charlie” Taylor have and interesting meeting which sparks to more. Return to Oregon City to see how these two reconcile their differences. Book 6 of Brides of the Oregon Trail you won’t want to miss.
Wonderful Story
This is a wonderful story with endearing characters. It has intrigue, danger and finding love after marriage.
I really like Charlie/Charlotte and Travis. Charlie thinks she already knows Travis when he shows up. Travis is Ian’s friend and he has come out West to start over. He isn’t the guy that Charlie thinks he is. Travis wants to court Charlie, but she isn’t sure she will ever marry. She wears pants, hunts and fishes. If he wants a dainty woman, she is not for him. After they are in a compromising situation, they both know that they will marry. Travis just wanted Charlie to get to know him better before he married her. A woman followed Travis out West and she will do anything to get rid of Charlie. Including murder. Will Charlie survive long enough to tell Travis that she does love him? Will he love her back?
Forced to take care of herself at a very young age, Charlotte, otherwise known as Charlie, discovered that being dressed like a man allowed her to earn an honest wage and take care of herself. Having firmly put a damper on all her feminine attributes, one would think that Charlie would be gruff and unfeeling about the needs of others. The opposite is, in fact, true, as she cares deeply not only for her own family but for the children of the town. Charlie’s initial meeting with Travis MacGregor is hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud. Despite having been conned, Travis’ interest in Charlie is piqued and before long he is asking to court her. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy about this development and when Charlie’s life is put in danger, Travis realises that he has brought problems to his friends’ doorstep. Of the Brides of the Oregon Trail series, I think I have enjoyed this book the most, as there is wit, romance, suspense and a love that would not be denied. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
