The explosive new thriller from New York Times-bestselling author and master of the medical thriller Robin Cook. Newly minted chief resident at Boston Memorial Hospital Noah Rothauser is swamped in his new position, from managing the surgical schedules to dealing with the fallouts from patient deaths. Known for its medical advances, the famed teaching hospital has fitted several ORs as “hybrid … fitted several ORs as “hybrid operating rooms of the future”—an improvement that seems positive until an anesthesia error during a routine procedure results in the death of an otherwise healthy man. Noah suspects Dr. William Mason, an egotistical, world-class surgeon, of an error during the operation and of tampering with the patient’s record afterward. But Mason is quick to blame anesthesiologist, Dr. Ava London.
When more anesthesia-related deaths start to occur, Noah is forced to question all of the residents on his staff, including Ava, and he quickly realizes there’s more to her than what he sees. A social-media junkie, Ava has created multiple alternate personas for herself on the Internet. With his own job and credibility now in jeopardy, Noah must decide which doctor is at fault and who he can believe—before any more lives are lost.

I’ve been a “Follower” of Robin Cook for many years, and feel this is one of his best yet! In creating his characters, developing their “story” and personalities, it lends a questioning thought about those we meet during our healthcare encounters, as well as more personal contacts)–people, and situations, are not always as they SEEM!
Robin Cook’s novels are always well-researched and address medical topics that could present consumers with some serious issues. I’ve read all of Cook’s novels and this one does not disappoint.
How a person becomes a bookish doctor and manage to cheat a lot of patients.
For me the book dragged for a while then it picked up speed. And when it picked up speed it took off. Not at all what I expected as far as the outcome. All and all a good book.
Always like this author (medical)
I really enjoyed this story. It sure seems like this could happen in real life although that’s a scary thought. It kept me entertained from beginning to end.
There is no Robin Cook medical thriller that has not brought me reading pleasure.
Here again, he brings the characteristic suspense in combination with bringing to our attention some new aspect of science and medicine that we should be a bit suspicious about.
Loved the book. A bit confused and let down by the ending.
Scary. Can’t say much of anything but this could happen. Maybe it already has.,.
Excellent book that is best read when you’re not trying to read yourself to sleep. As much as I’m drawn to Robin Cook’s books, the scary reality of what he explores in his novels is quite disturbing.
Didn’t like the ending. Abrupt with too many loose ends. Uncharacteristic fir Cook
The ending portrays a scary reality scenario of medical technology.
Wow. This book had quite a turn!
I usually love his books but this one was not as intriguing as his past ones
This is not one of his better books. The characters are not well developed and the premise is not believeable.
a little bit bit slow at the beginning, but quite exiting once you get going
A slow start killed this book even though it picked up toward the end with a few surprises.
Not as good as other Robin Cook books, but still a believable, scary story.
Loved this book! Will definitely be reading more by Robin Cook!
I haven’t read a Robin Cook novel for years…now I remember why. He ran out of good ideas for medical drama. This story, while somewhat entertaining, is so far out and so full of slow parts that it was sometimes hard not to delete. I finished it and wondered why I did.
