I was a little scared going into this book as I realized after purchasing it that it was one of many in a series. This gave me pause as I don’t like starting a series in the middle.
That said I was really delighted to see this book stood alone. I was able to read and follow along without having had read the previous books. However now I want to.
What I liked about this story was the lead female character. She was strong, loving and honest. She showed she was capable of taking care of herself. I like strong females who know how to be vulnerable when needed.
As for out lead man he starts off self-center and egotistical but soon shows us he can be kind, loving and generous.
I felt the author did a wonderful job unfolding the characters before me. She created a wonderful storyline built on characters that were real and complicate as are most people. The story behind why each character was the way they were was intriguing. it also explained a lot about each.
The storyline between our hero and heroine was written beautifully and I enjoy seeing their love and friendship blossom. With each chapter and page, I became more captivated by them.
Overall a wonderfully written story that was a joy to read.
For me, this book affected me deeply. A large group of charming, believable characters, dreams that come true and many words of wisdom. I particularly enjoyed the lead female, Charity, as she always stayed true to herself. Inspiring. I miss the characters already. A must read.
Good – until the last few pages of sex that ruined it.
A book with a predictable ending, but the getting there is full of enjoyable twists and turns. The heroine is not your run of the mill one and so also the hero – a viscount this time.
I loved this book, Charity had no idea, and neither did the devil, it was a total page turner, and yep!! A lovely happy ever after. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
What a great love story between Charity Kendall & Luke Linton, Viscount Devlin. It was quite the journey though – Viscount Devlin is known for bad temper, wastrel ways & doing everything to ruin the Devlin name. Charity, on the other hand, was a strong, independent, stubborn woman with a temper to stay away from. The two of them banter back and forth constantly & Devlin was knocked off his horse & hit his head & doesn’t remember who he is or that he is the one selling Charity’s family’s farm out from under them after 3 generations of farming. The supporting cast of Charity’s siblings, the farm help Mr. & Mrs. Baxter were wonderful.
Will our hero remember who he is, will he save the farm, can he earn Charity’s trust & love? This is fresh, romantic love story that leaves you teary eyed at the end but happy tears. The 2 sex scenes are done tastefully & you really needed them to move forward with the story.
I highly recommend this book & all the books in this series – I haven’t read one that I didn’t love.
You know where the story is going in the end but it is a sweet ride getting there.
The author makes you laugh and smile. This story of love finally coming around is very entertaining and poignant. Wonderful characters all. Atmosphere you can feel the moors. The author puts you in the moment while reading this story and didn’t want it to end. Well written with love scenes just right. A very good read to re-read.
Can an angel and a devil find lasting love?
Charity Kendell is the backbone of her family, and if she doesn’t change the mind of her landlord, Viscount Devlin, her family will be homeless.
Lord Devlin is a known rogue who seems to be on a course of self destruction. To stay alive, he needs money, which is why he will sell his property, regardless of his tenants pleas.
What happens when two opposing worlds collide is the plot of Charity and the Devil.
Emma V. Leech is one of my favorite authors, which is why I was excited to read this stand-alone Regency romance. The first half was all that I’ve come to expect from this author. Her stories are usually both character and story driven. However, at the mid-point, the story seemed to lag and I just wanted to get to the finish. That said, I am thrilled that the finish was worth the effort. I love happy endings, especially when they include a smile-worthy epilogue.
Content alert: This book contains swear words and sexual intimacy.
For two people who aggravated each other, they still managed to make it to the marriage and have a child. Good for them.
The loathsome, self-serving and self-centered Lord Devlin meets his destiny in the stubborn, irresistible force named Charity Kendall. The Kendall family are tenants on property he is selling out from under them to settle debts. Angered by the latest vituperous message she sent, Devlin rides like the devil he is to confront her, but falls from his horse. Memory gone, he is taken into the Kendall household. He finds his better self, regains his memory, falls in love, and cannot reveal himself until he unravels the sale of the land.
Two plot lines didn’t work for me.
1) Devlin bloodies the steward and Charity arrives to see the damage and realizes they’ve all been duped. That’s the last we hear of Ogden – I wanted his day of reckoning to be more fierce.
2) What of entailment? Can a peer of the realm sell land, including the family seat, just like that?
