Interplanetary intrigue and romance combine in this electrifying finale to the Consortium Rebellion series. As the youngest member of her High House, Catarina von Hasenberg is used to being underestimated, but her youth and flighty, bubbly personality mask a clever mind and stubborn determination. Her enemies, blind to her true strength, do not suspect that Cat is a spy—which makes her the perfect … spy—which makes her the perfect candidate to go undercover at a rival House’s summer retreat to gather intelligence on their recent treachery.
Cat’s overprotective older sister reluctantly agrees, but on one condition: Cat cannot go alone. Alexander Sterling, a quiet, gorgeous bodyguard, will accompany her, posing as her lover. After Cat tries, and fails, to ditch Alex, she grudgingly agrees, confident in her ability to manage him. After all, she’s never found a person she can’t manipulate.
But Alex proves more difficult—and more desirable—than Cat anticipated. When she’s attacked and nearly killed, she and Alex are forced to work together to figure out how deep the treason goes. With rumors of widespread assaults on Serenity raging, communications down, and the rest of her family trapped off-planet, Catarina must persuade Alex to return to Earth to expose the truth and finish this deadly battle once and for all.
But Cat can’t explain why she’s the perfect person to infiltrate hostile territory without revealing secrets she’d rather keep buried. . . .

A great conclusion to this trilogy. All the heroines are so incredible in their own ways, and Catarina is no different. Alex is a delight of a hero. And the worldbuilding is just amazing. Politics and planets that really feel different from each other and fun space stuff (yes, that’s a technical term). If you enjoy romance with a dash of spaceships, these are the books for you!
I’m not going to lie, the release date of Chaos Reigning totally snuck up on me. I’m going to blame the lockdown and how time no longer has any meaning. Once I realized the release day was this week, I dropped my current book and binge-read this. And it was a binge-read because I didn’t want to put the book down for a single second.
Chaos Reigning follows the youngest von Hasenberg, Cat. At first you think it’s going to be a simple story of a pretend relationship between Cat and her “boyfriend” i.e. bodyguard Alex at a house party. Like her sisters, Cat has serious secrets and she perhaps plays the society game the best. She has a public persona of being bubbly and social and that hides her true brilliance. She doesn’t want the bodyguards her sister stuck her with and spends some time trying to brush them off. However, between her attraction to Alex and both him and Aiofe proving helpful, they become an unstoppable group. As things dramatically change and Cat needs to shed her persona for that of leader, Alex’s support is crucial.
I loved each book in the series but I think Cat’s just might be my favorite. Something about the strong, caring, and yet unsure girl underneath that bubbly persona just appeals to me. Add that with Alex’s confidence in her, this book is my catnip. Jessie Mihalik keeps the action and everything moving so fast that Alex and Cat struggle to have time to move their relationship to more and that burning attraction is the undercurrent of the complex situation they find themselves in. There’s certainly never a dull moment in this book. The characters are thrust into situations so intense and are forced to make really difficult decisions that a times you forgot Cat is only in her 20s until she shows her insecurity. This is a complex and skillfully written story and Jessie Mihalik completely knocks it out of the park!
A fantastic end to this series! It was great to see the youngest daughter, Cat, hold her own and figure out how to save her family AND the Earth. Mihalik brought together several storylines in a way that paid off and made sense. And the sex scenes with Alexander were blistering, even if the poor couple kept getting interrupted. Lol. I adored Alexander as a hero, always encouraging Cat to try harder or shrug off the expectations of others. And I LOVED the ending. All in all, this series is not to be missed! From beginning to end, it was fantastic.
I like the first one the best but it’s a cute, quick read of a trilogy. Important loose ends are all wrapped up.
Wonderful SF tale with rockets, rayguns (sort of) and a kick-ass heroine who’s constantly being underestimated…except by the fabulous man at her side who’s willing to let her take the lead. Fans of the Consortium Rebellion will want to read this final novel, but even someone who hasn’t been following along will be able to keep up with this tale of powerful families and fighting for change and justice. Most importantly, it’s just a whompin’ good read!
Catarina took names and buttered them up with her personal style of retribution and oh, the surprises she had in store! Her personal journey was a roller coaster of ups and downs, especially with confidence and morale and I loved seeing her come into her own!
Alexander had some page time as well, but just like the other guys who played Catarina’s sisters’ love interests and supporting characters, they take a backseat to Mihalik’s heroines who are front and center in the spotlight. I think I only really noticed that here because Alexander was such a background character. He played the positive supporting role when Catarina needed a boost in morale, or a kissing pal when hormones took over, otherwise he wasn’t in the picture much. And while I would have liked a little more oomph to Alex and Catarina’s conversations and relationship (instead of the perfected roles they played a little too well) I still enjoyed a lot about this story! The battles, the escapes, the colorful networking, even the sibling support was a lot of fun. The ending is a little bittersweet because I’m not ready to say goodbye to this series!
