Looking for a unique paranormal cozy mystery series that’s lighthearted and fun? Settle into the cozy countryside of Moss Hill, where house-elves rent rooms, sprites live in gardens, a leprechaun is the best tailor in town, and a half-elf/half human named Carissa Shea owns a pharmacy known as The Seelie Tree Apothecary shop. Life couldn’t be more idyllic for Cari, but healing humans and fae folk … and fae folk proves challenging at times, especially when secrets unfold in The Faerie Apothecary Mysteries.
About Chaos in the Countryside
The quiet town of Moss Hill would be in trouble if not for one daring nature faerie: a sprite known as Chaos. Though she is little, she is…fierce isn’t the right word. Spirited is more accurate. She’s traveled far and wide to warn the half-human, half-elf Carissa Shae about a danger that’s coming to the countryside. Carissa’s Seelie Tree Apothecary shop is no stranger to faeries, but with this new arrival, its owner, and Moss Hill, will never be the same. Is this cozy town ready for a little Chaos?

Can Chaos save Moss Hill?
Chaos in the Countryside by Astoria Wright is a cute little cozy mystery. Ms. Wright did an excellent job of hooking me into this series with this short novella. The characters are all well thought out, the setting is terrific, and I fell in love with both Chaos and Carissa.
Chaos
Chaos is a cute little nature faerie that is sent to help Carissa Shae. She is from Mexico and Chaos is adorable. I do feel bad for her since she is in this strange place that is different from her home. She is sent to help Carissa out with their Unseelie problem, but Carissa doesn’t want anything to do with it. What I like about Chaos is that her name fits with the bit of chaos she brings to Carissa. The other thing that I like about Chaos is that she is stubborn about wanting to help out and to keep Carissa safe. The one thing that I dislike about Chaos is that she doesn’t listen to Carissa all that well.
Carissa Shae
Carissa Shae is our main character of this series, and she is a fascinating character. She saddles the line of being apart of two worlds and having to live in both. Cari is half elf and half human who runs The Seelie Tree Apothecary shop that caters to both humans and faeries. Granted for the later she has to go to the fairy world to see her customers. I love how the author makes this island and all the characters feel real to me.
What I like about Carissa is that she has made a great life for herself on her home island and is doing a great job of it. Well, that is until Chaos the fairy shows up. Another thing that I like about her is that despite not wanting to do certain things Carissa does them because she knows that someone has to. The one thing that I don’t like about Carissa is that she doesn’t get with why Chaos was sent to her.
Five Stars
Chaos in the Countryside by Astoria Wright was a great introduction to this series. The author has woven a great tale on how humans and faeries can mix and live in harmony together. Including having kids together and how that affects the half-fae as well. Let’s hope nothing wrong will happen to this little town. I am giving this book a five-star review and highly recommending it to anyone that loves the paranormal and cozies.

This is an entertaining, short, cozy mystery that has made me curious to listen to the full series. A small town where the human inhabitants live in relative harmony with Fairies, Fae, Elves etc but trouble is brewing on the horizon and a small nature sprite and a half elf maybe the key to stopping it. This story has well defined characters that you can’t help but like and a plot that capture the imagination and makes you want to hear more. The narration was excellent, the accents and the individual voices she gave the characters fit the characters well and really enhanced the story. This was a fast paced, fun prequel and I will look forward to hearing the first book in the series.
CHAOS IN THE COUNTRYSIDE by Astoria Wright
A Faerie Apothecary Mystery Prequel
Carissa Shae is an unassuming resident of Moss Hill. Half-human and half-elf Cari runs the town’s apothecary shop catering to both the humans and fae who reside on the island just west of the United Kingdom. The arrival of a surprise package starts Carissa on a path that could change her life, and that of Moss Hill, forever. Inside is a gorgeous chocolate cosmos plant…and a nature faerie named Chaos. There’s also a note warning of danger for Moss Hill and naming Carissa its protector. What danger could be coming? Will Carissa be able to tap into her Elven powers? How will Chaos help? The fate of Moss Hill is in their hands.
I really enjoyed learning about the inhabitants of Moss Hill. Astoria Wright has created a unique world where humans accept the fae and live alongside them. Carissa is a likable protagonist thrust into a situation for which she feels unprepared. The note tells her she will meet fae who will help, while there will be those she doesn’t want to meet. With that warning in mind it’s almost impossible to trust anyone and everyone seems suspicious. There are lots of subplots, any of which could lead to this big danger to the island, from developers (always the bad guys in my mind), banshees, and the mysterious actions of crows and ravens, not to mention pixies!
CHAOS IN THE COUNTRYSIDE is a delightful dip into Moss Hill and the world of the Faerie Apothecary. With lots of action and intrigue Astoria Wright has conjured up a vivid world. I can still see that stormy night with rain lashing and pixies fighting in the gale. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
