Aiden Willingham has lived a hard life. As a Navy SEAL, he agreed to take part in an ultra-secret government testing program. The company running the program, the Silverstone Collaborative, has produced a serum from an Amazon plant that’s been proven to enhance physical abilities and mental fortitude. Problem is, men died during the testing, and it’s time for the company to be taken down before … before more men die. Aiden, as well as three others, escaped the camp with evidence of the company’s wrong-doing. Now they’re in a race to expose them. They’ve already lost one of their team, and the Collaborative’s mercenaries are converging. Angela Holloway knew the military man with sadness in his eyes was trouble as soon as she saw him hanging around the site of a murder. Uncooperative, he stonewalls her investigation, but draws her in when the badge comes off. Aiden has scars, both internal and external, that make her heart ache. It’s a serious no-no getting involved with a suspect… too bad her heart isn’t listening. As details come to light about what’s going on in her city, she has to fight for what she believes is right, as well as the man on the wrong side of the law.

If you like to read military romances, then J M Madden is an author for you.
If you haven’t done it yet read the prequel Genesis before reading this one.. The prequel finally gave us the background of the Spartan Project and how Aiden ended up a genetically altered soldier. He has been a character that has shown up here and there through this authors Lost and Found series never really knowing his true identity until the end. The beginning of this book kinda gives lots a previous background but does introduce us to Angela Holloway, a tough former marine who is now a police officer who becomes curious about the mysterious man who she finds at a crime scene and who comes out of nowhere to save her from two thugs.
These two have instant chemistry even though neither wants to acknowledge it for their own personal reasons. Aiden is still a mess mentally from his captivity and the changes that were done to his body. Along with dealing with that, he and the other that men escaped with him with evidence of the testing, torture and killing of many military men are having to stay one step ahead of the Collaborative who want them dead.
Angela plays a big part in getting Aiden to reconnect with his brother and pushes him and the other men to utilize the guys at LNF to help with bringing down the Collaborative. The end up this book sets up the next one and boy does it look to be thrilling one.
First let me say I am very excited for this series. After reading Genesis and remembering Aiden in the Lost and Found Series I sincerely want these guys to have their happily ever after.
Aiden is in his brother’s hometown, a brother he didn’t know he had until recently. His brother John works for Lost and Found as a computer specialist and his wife just had twins. Aiden has been keeping watch over them. Their safety has been his top priority while staying underground out of sight, avoiding the assassins sent to finish him off.
An initial confrontation with Angela, a police officer and former Marine, leaves Aiden feeling things he hasn’t felt in a very long time.
Now both Aiden and Angela are more than a little confused about the emotions that encounter stirred. Which leads to them seeking each other out, quite the unusual situation.
Fontana and Wolfe play a part in this book as does, Duncan and John from Lost and Found. I won’t say who the bad guy is but if you’ve read Genesis you already know.
There was fun, laughter, sizzling scenes and plenty of action that will keep you turning the pages.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series, but in the meantime I am re-reading LNF to remember Aiden’s role in all of them, hopefully it will ease my impatience for the next book.
Before reading this book, I strongly suggest you read Genesis (book 0.5 of the Dogs of War Series) to give you the background you’ll need for Chaos. Chaos is a book that’s impossible to put down once you start it, so clear the decks first. J.M. Madden not only hit a home-run with this book, she slammed one out of the park. Aiden is a former SEAL that went through chemical enhancement, and torture along the way. Angela is a former Marine and now a police detective. Angela and Aiden’s story is packed with a stellar cast of characters, drama, humor, steamy sex and edge-of-your-seat action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and was sorry when it ended. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! Chaos is book 1 of the Dogs of War Series. It can be read as a standalone but will be easier to understand if you read Genesis first. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I read a print copy of this book.
O…M…G JM Madden you have just torn my heart out. What a marvelous, well written and amazing read. The emotions of all these characters pull you threw each and every page. Heat, understanding, comfort and above all tears that run down your cheeks are you read Aidens story. This man was mention in the LNF series a couple of times but the journey this man had to go threw will leave
Your skin crawling, your heart weeping and your Hope’s building for him. Mrs. MADDEN you coukdntbhavecwritten a better book than this to fit this mans journey. Thank you I so look forward to reading more. Now I need to go wash my face from all the tears.
Aiden who was experimented on was a great character. If you haven’t read the prequel Genesis than I would also recommend it as it tell the start of this series. Angela who was a detective was also a great character and was a strong and smart woman. Loved the plot and the chemistry. Plenty of action with some steam. Secondary characters that are well developed and as some were from the prequel it was great. I will be getting the next book in this series! Loved it!!
J.M. Madden did it again. Aiden and three others managed to escape from the Amazon jungle where they were basically kept as lab rats. This novel continues the story. Back in the States, staying alive is the priority while trying to decipher the information stolen from the lab. Fantastic book, highly recommend it!
Unfortunately Madden has wandered off her regular beat and is mixing science fiction with her usual mixture of romantic sispense.
Not bad, but not my cuppa.
As always JM Madden writes an action packed, suspenseful and moving story. Choas is a spin-off series from her Lost and Found series which is another favorite series of mine.
Aiden has been on radar since he slipped into the LNF series and what a beautiful story we get. Aiden has been alone for two years. He’s been a “homeless vet” gathering information for himself for a while. He’s endured what many couldn’t.
Angela Holloway is a Denver PD cop. She ends up with Aiden one day and things change for them both. Sometimes feelings show up when you least expect them too. And it’s so emotional reading their story.
JM Madden can write you a story you are lost in and you don’t come up for air until the very end. She’ll always be a favorite of mine.
Highly recommended.
Been waiting for this book. Good read
I was looking forward to this book, but it did not live up to my expectations. The Lost and Found series had such wonderful in depth characters. This book sacrificed letting us know the characters for the unrealistic story line. That said, I will try in the next book in the series because I normally love this writer.
I love this author. Every book she writes touches my heart. This one…. hands down one of her best. Aiden is a true hero— and what he lived thru– will break you heart– yet he survives to come back and try and help others. A MUST READ!
Secret experiments, ruthless mercenaries and three men on the run from both make for a read that will take you on the ride of your life.
Aiden finds himself back in Denver keeping watch over his brother and trying to untangle the web of deceit that is the Collaborative.
Angela meets Aiden while revising the scene of one of her unsolved cases and tries to question him. What follows has the two of them connecting in ways neither expected.
Fast paced, suspenseful storyline with great H/h and secondary characters that will grab you heart and attention. I can’t wait for more books on the Dogs of War.
This story will grasp your attention from the moment you read the first few lines.
It’s the start of a new series about a group of military men that had volunteered for an experimental project which went wrong . They were able to escape but are now in danger of being killed by the company running the experiments. But hopefully, not before the company is exposed.
One of these men searching answers and wanting to expose Silverstone Collaborative is Aiden Willinghan. A Navy SEAL living under the radar and trying to protect his family. Angela Holloway is the cop that confronts him and whom he later saves. Needless to say, the attraction is immediate but who is this man that seems to be on the wrong side of the law? Will she follow her heart and her believe in doing the right thing, or will she go with what’s expected of her?
An engaging plot with very complex characters , that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
A great start for this new series.
I voluntarily read this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
