Daphne and Jack meet on a Greyhound bus heading north from California. The year is 1976 and Daphne is a pregnant teenager. Jack is a guy in search of a future. For these two lost souls, this is a ride that will change their lives and begin a dynasty. This is a prequel to the Take a Chance series about the eleven kids Jack and Daphne will collect over the years and the paths each member of this … very untraditional family, will take as they, in turn, fall in love.

Chance Encounter is the prequel for Nancy Warren’s Take A Chance series. It is the introduction of Daphne and Jack Chance. Two teenagers facing incredible hardships and questionable futures. They did however, believe in each other and in themselves. This series is so heartfelt, so loving, so compassionate. I repeatedly return to reread stories within this series when my life has a gloomy day. This series, and especially this story, depicts the good in humanity, that we should constantly search for. I can not overstate how important and beautiful this story is!
a short novella with fun characters
I discovered Ms. Warren through reading her entertaining “Vampire Knitting Club” series. After joining her email distribution list, I received several free romance ebooks from her. While this is not my preferred genre, Ms. Warren is an interesting writer and anyone who likes romance novels would enjoy this prequel that focuses on the first meeting of the couple who is pivotal to this series.
It was my pleasure to receive this free ebook from the author and give my honest review.
Great Beginning
This is a great short that start with two young people meeting on as bus and starting a very different family.
Where it all began!
This is #0.5 in the Take A Chance Series.
HEA with No cliffhangers!
These are about the members of the Chase family. I suggest reading them in order to get the best experience.
Content Warning:
There is no sex, just good chemistry.
Story
This is a Prequel to the whole Take A Chance Series. It’s a short novella that let you see just how Jack and Daphne met. Their names are so close to Jack and Diane that I can’t help myself from calling them that. Please keep in mind the time frame of this story. Things that are acceptable today, were very much NOT in the 70’s.
Jack Daphne
All of this story takes place on June 17, 1976 upon a Greyhound bus heading from California to Oregon. 18 yr old Daphne is on her way to live with her great aunt after finding herself in an unplanned family way. Jack is on his way to Eugene in an effort to re-write his life story. These two just connect and its quite touching.
Its short but insightful. I will probably want to go back and re-listen to Chance Encounter, after I’m finished with #4 because it will probably carry more weight at that point. It’s a great bonus to this delightful series. Take a Chance!
The angst is low, which I appreciate. The two love birds do face some settling down issues. I think Caitlyn is a bit of a late grower in that department, but it all works out in the end. We get to meet a good chunk of the other siblings in the beginning of this story. I look forward to all of their stories!
