“I promise. Not all of me’s made of metal.”A cyborg with a mysterious and dangerous past.A naive girl fleeing the dying farmlands to forge her own future.Chance has fought his entire life, first for survival in the streets of Cyn City and later for money and prestige in the underground Cyborg Fight League. His fists and cybernetic arm have solved almost every problem he’s ever faced, except for … problem he’s ever faced, except for love. After losing the love of his life, he never thought he’d find someone again.
Verity left behind everything she knows to start a new future in Cyn City. But her Ecovangalit upbringing left her unprepared for the hard realities of life amongst the criminals and cyborgs. When a dangerous cyborg with a bad reputation proves to be the only person she can trust, can she lower her walls enough to let him in?
As Verity finds herself in debt to the wrong kind of man who will sell her body as fast as he will sell her soul, Chance is the only one who can clear her ledger, but only if he’ll fight in the Cyborg Underground Circuit again.
Is Chance strong enough to win the only fight that ever mattered?
Each book in the series is fully stand alone and can be read in any order.

Great spin off story to start a new series
Chance is an offshoot of Pearl Foxx’ alien shifter/SF series, Shifters of Kladuu. In the same time frame. but on the ecologically devastated Earth this time, Chance the cyborg meets ecovangelist refugee Verity when she becomes a server at the bar/underground fight club where he works. In the heart of the swampy Cyn City (formerly Manhattan) slums, it caters to cyborgs, laborers, and all the other undesirables and criminals the upper crust of the upper city would just as soon see drowned. This cesspool is Verity’s dream opportunity, because the job, the money and the squalid room she rents are far better than the dorms of the cult farm where the baby-makers like her must live. What little she has here is her own – until the landlord ups the rent and she has to ask Chance’s boss, the club owner, for more shifts. The ‘contract’ he offers isn’t what it seems, and Chance isn’t who he seems, and the upshot of it all is not the HEA of anybody’s dreams – except hers. Complex and beautifully damaged characters, and an unremitting sense of inevitability, are the standout features of this romance that lights up its mildewed setting, and the reader’s heart. My thanks to Hidden Gems for the ARC, my voluntary, independent sand uncompensated review is 4 stars. I loved it, but it’s minus one star for persistent and egregious grammar/spelling errors that writers and editors both should know better than to publish.
Psst… Did you know I wrote this? Check out my Sci-Fi Romance pen name Pearl Foxx !
Give me a Chance!!!
WOW!!! Once again, I am blown away by Pearl’s writing. Not only did the incredible imagery put me IN the story, but the soulmate-level love felt between Verity and Chance truly touched my heart.
I was also treated to a unique spin on the cyborg that I had never read before, and I absolutely loved that. I also met a cast of characters that I can’t wait to read more about!
Verity really impressed me. She came from a very sheltered life and threw herself into Cyn City to escape. She could definitely take care of herself, but I like that she didn’t always push Chance away, either. Because, let’s be real, everyone needs a little help sometimes.
Chance was HOT. He suffered a huge betrayal by his ex-girlfriend which changed him forever. Dangerous, secretive, and yet chivalrous, protective, not afraid to share his feelings, he’s like the perfect guy! And no, as the book teaser indicates, not all of him is made of metal.
These love scenes were SMOKIN’. But they were the type that weren’t just physically hot; they deepened the connection between Verity and Chance, which made the scenes that much better.
I was so excited reading this book one. It was like being strapped in to a roller coaster. I know the ride is just getting started, and I can’t wait to experience the thrill of the series!!!
