Original storyline and great characters but just no clear cut ending!
Gage began his own security company and is a bit of a mad inventor. but to get his business off the ground he has been seriously neglecting his wife. One he never felt he was good enough for because she comes from serious money.
Lily made it perfectly plain to her family and Gage that she didn’t care for money over love. But when Gage is hurt in an accident and then shipped off to the local mental health facility she doesn’t know what to make of it. She has been told he is now violent, dangerous even to her. but what is the true story?
My only real grumble with this story was how quickly Lily seemed to be sucked into the idea that Gage was dangerous. I know he was affected by chemicals but she hadn’t even seen him after the incident – she was only going on hearsay! Dr. Morton is a total smarmy asswipe that I would never tire of smacking in the face!
I loved the partnership between the detectives who get involved in the investigation – Randall McClellan and Richard Francis. I was also brought to tears by them – dammit!
Gage was totally McGuyvering himself out of the situation – he had gadgets for most situations and hideyholes everywhere!
Brayden’s story is told in book 2 by Ann Voss Peterson and there is a third book to come by Patricia Rosemoor.
The entire series has a fascinating premise, that an explosion of chemicals at a secure lab causes unusual abilities in those affected. This first book sets up the drama with a very sexy hero accused of murder and his wife, who fears he might be dangerous. How they work to solve the puzzle of what really happened and find their way back to each other (it’s a romance, after all) creates a page turner.
Chain Reaction kicks of this three part series by multiple authors. This book is Rebecca York’s contribution and sets the tone of suspense and intrigue that will ultimately be front and centre of the Security Breach series.
The plot is believable, and the fast-paced storyline keeps the reader engrossed throughout the entire story. I enjoyed the originality and the character portrayals, which were well developed and captivating. With the underlying paranormal element, this story had everything I wanted in an easy to follow, entertaining and quick read.
With Critical Exposure (book 2) by Ann Voss Peterson and Triggered Response (book 3) by Patricia Rosemoor, next on my list, I’m sure there’s more action and intrigue to come!
Gage and Brayden have a security company and they are determined to make it a success. That’s why when man power on the job of one of their biggest clients became an issue, they pitched in and worked the extra hours necessary. This caused a strain on his marriage. On the day he was supposed to go home for some couple time with his wife, there’s an accident at the client’s lab. Gage gets hurt and wakes up in a mental hospital. He can’t get any straight answers from the doctor so he escapes and tries to get home to his wife.
Lily is upset with Gage for working so much won’t be home for the weekend that they had planned for them to try to reconnect. While he is telling her that he can’t make it home, she hears the alarm in the background indicating that something is wrong at Gage’s work site. He doesn’t have time to explain what is going on before he hangs up. She then goes from being upset to being worried. When she finds out Gage has been hurt, she goes to the hospital to try to see him but can’t. When she finally hears from the doctor, it is to find out that Gage has escaped and is wanted for murder. Can she trust him if he shows up at their house or will she have to turn him in to the authorities?
What a great story. For me, it just flew by. The danger and intrigue never really let up. It was really intense. Put that together with two really good main characters and the story really takes off. The paranormal element was a surprising one and I really liked the originality of it.
In the beginning even Gage’s wife, Lily isn’t so sure whether or not he is innocent of all charges. She is definitely torn because so much is being stacked against him and she can’t even get in to see him. That arrogant Dr. Morton made me want to slap him around. I couldn’t decide for the longest time if he was knee deep in everything or if was just a nasty fellow. Time will tell. I will say that I really wanted him to be the main bad guy. Of course he wasn’t the only smarmy guy in the set-up.
Randall “Rand” McClellan and Richard Francis were two Maryland State Police detectives. And they were smart, not the bumbling, accept anything at first glance kind of guys. I really liked that and I liked their partnership. Although it caused Gage a whole lot more problems as he tried to dig out the truth himself. He not only had to escape the people from Cranesbrook, and now these clever detectives. Things kept getting even worse now that the general public is on the look out for them.
Brayden Sloane? He is Gage’s best friend and co-owner of the security company but where is he? He’s just disappeared. It leaves Gage worried on so many levels. Well, that question won’t be answered in this book. There is a H.E.A. for this couple but with adventures for a few other people. And from what I can see all questions will be answered in Book #3.
My last word on this book is that I really liked this author Rebecca York. I was surprised to read the information that said Ruth Glick was writing this as Rebecca York.
Critical Exposure by Ann Voss Peterson is Book #2 in the Security Breach series. Book #3 is Triggered Response by Patricia Rosemoor.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. It’s a new 2019 release. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
Gage is ex special forces and opened up a security company with his buddy. They are guarding a facility that has a contract with department of defense. An alarm goes off and Gage rushes in when an explosion goes off. He wakes up in a hospital, tied down. No one will tell him anything and he somehow escapes. Lily his wife is a chef and was arguing with Gage when the alarm went off. They won’t let her in to see him because they claim he is violent. Now Gage is accused of murder and to prove his innocence he must stay out of jail. Can Gage find out what’s going on and prove he’s no killer?
Fair story. Not a lot of information. Action, mystery and sex. A husband in a insane hospital and a wife who doesn’t believe her husband.
