Manhattan businessman Richard Brooks was at the top of the world, drunk with success, wealth, and women, and he proudly lived that prodigal lifestyle, until one disastrous evening, when that world came crashing down.
Richard flees to Minneapolis where he repairs ancient boilers instead of solving corporate problems, and he’s determined to live the solitary life he now deserves.
But Executive … deserves.
But Executive Sheila Peterson has other plans for the handsome custodian. Richard appears to be the perfect match for the no-strings-attached romance she’s after, but she soon discovers that he’s hiding more than the designer clothes in his closet.

After reading the full length novel prequel (Pieces of Granite), I had to immediately come here and read Ricky’s story. We saw a ton of him in the prequel – I highly recommend reading it first.
This book had great characters and a lot of ups and downs in its storyline. There were some very difficult topics covered. I couldn’t put it down. It was amazing.
I enjoyed this book so much. The title was perfect and the story related very well…kept me reading!
Not the typical Christian romance. Found myself initially having trouble liking the main character, although identified with his struggle to “do what was right” in his own strength. Though his search to find who he really was and the chain of events that unfolded I was drawn into his struggles. Ended up really liking the characters and the book so much that I immediately bought the sequel. Can’t wait to find out what happens next.
This is a book about how GOD changes hearts even after grievous sins. He forgives all sin! A corporate genius who only thinks of himself, a woman who has had 2 abortions, a girl feeling guilty about her brother’s death & does not want to forgive drunk driver that killed him, a daddy that has to allow his girlfriend to kill his baby because father’s have no rights when it comes to unborn children. Lots of lessons of how not to act & make wrong choices & GOD’s compassion & rebuilding lives forgiving the bad & ugly sins we all have. Jesus is the forgiver & we are to follow His example!
I was unsure of this book at first. It seemed like it would have a Christian theme at first, but the first few chapters seemed off. I believe the author wanted to tell a realistic story true to so many of us and our failures in our walk with the Lord.
This book deals with things that happen in real life. Drunk driving and abortion are very relevant to today’s society. I loved the way the author dealt with these issues.
Liked the book, however, the topic covered in the book was relevant to todays world, but also rather a downer. Overall, it was a good book.
Great escape when there is just too much life going on.
Just ok
I liked the story, but just didn’t feel the attraction between the two main characters.
Too many hints at dark secrets too early in the book, and too much raw sex between peopke who hardly knew each other. Reminded me of a narcissistic relative of my exhusband, who was divorced from a third spouse by age 35.
Very enjoyable
Great story and good focus on learning to forgive ourselves.
I must have missed the significance of the chain—and hence the name—but enjoyed the story nonetheless.
Lost my attention.
Couldn’t put it down. Held my attention from beginning to end.
Dnf. Utterly boring. Predictable fluff
Nice way to spend some time.
