In “Chain of Custody”, Book Two in author Carol Ericson’s “Holding the Line Series”, border patrol agent Nash Dillon suddenly finds himself as the caretaker of an adorable baby boy while he’s also caring for a friend’s dog, managing his family’s pecan groves, and investigating dangerous drug traffickers. When a beautiful red-headed, green-eyed nanny appears in Paradiso, AZ, at just at the right time, Nash breathes a sigh of relief. Former law officer Emily O’Brien is starting life over as a private investigator. Hired to track baby Wyatt and keep an eye on his mother, Emily poses as a nanny in order to stay close to Wyatt. Jaycee Lemoin, a childhood friend of Nash’s younger sister, had left her baby in Nash’s care–not the first time he had helped out in a tine of need. Marcus Lanier, who claimed to be Wyatt’s father, was a married, big-time businessman from Phoenix, and he had hired Emily to help him gain information against Jaycee for a planned custody battle. Another player in the game is Brett Fillmore, Jaycee’s most recent boyfriend–and no stranger to the criminal element–just how does he fit into the overall picture? The attraction between Nash and Emily grows stronger as they spend time together and bond over baby Wyatt–but where is his mother? Just as Nash discovers Emily’s true identity, the situation turns from perplexing to perilous, and the two of them must use all of their law enforcement skills to protect the precious child–and each other. If they survive, is there a happy future ahead? I am really enjoying the “Holding the Line Series” from author Carol Ericson–this lady can really write romantic suspense–her involving story lines and well-developed characters will keep readers turning the pages.

He may be a trained Border Patrol Agent, but he was definitely not trained to take care of a baby who is left on his doorstep. Thankfully he found a nanny, but secrets were covered up and he is angry. Having to work together to protect the baby brings about feelings that hopefully will lead to HEA.
A reading from beginning to end keeps you enthralled to the very end so another late night read.
If like me you read the first one you had to not miss this one. What a surprise to find a baby on your doorstep. Nash gets that but needs a bit of help so he gets it with Emily. Another surprise is to come his way with us by now so hooked we can not spin the pages fast enough. We are soon given a dose of mystery that has danger right behind it. I say Wyatt is one lucky baby on one hand but he will need all the help he can get. Suspense starts climbing the charts as you get deeper into this. The right mixture of romance is in this also. You are given the works when reading this so satisfaction comes after the many pulls to the edge.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. Emily is an investigator posing as a nanny to gather information for her latest assignment. Nash discovers his childhood friend has left her baby on his doorstep, and he needs a nanny fast! Neither of them know what they have gotten involved in, and they are going to have to trust each other if they are going to make it through. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
(4.5)Love the twists and the “who done it” of this book. Mystery, romance and humor. Emily Lang made me smile several times and I really like Nash in this book more than what was alluded too in book 1. Even though this is a series each book is a fantastic stand alone, no worries there so don’t let that hold you back. I fell in love with little Wyatt myself and I love strong independent woman who can still show their feminine side. This was a well rounded book that fed my intrigue and romance soul. Thank you for the arc! All thoughts and opinions are my own and I can’t wait for the next one in the series.
Nash Dillon is a Border Patrol Agent He’s well trained and dedicated to his work. However, he’s not prepared to take care of a baby. Why did a childhood friend leave her little boy on his doorstep? Nash is struggling. He doesn’t know the first thing about babies. When he meets Emily who tells him that she’s a nanny, he hires her. What he doesn’t know is that she’s a PI hired to protect Wyatt. Things get deadly when Wyatt’s mother is found murdered. When Nash learns who Emily really is, he’s angry. When he sees how much she loves the baby, they agree to work together to keep him safe. I knew that being in Paradiso was a risk. Not with the drug cartel being so close. I hoped Nash could protect his charge. I was glad that he saw the goodness in Emily. Together they will try and foil the plans of a powerful mover and shaker who doesn’t care who he hurts. This romantic suspense pulled me in. I liked the characters. Emily is a feisty woman who puts herself out there for those she loves. Nash is all that’s honorable. I wanted good to triumph and Wyatt to have the security and love that all children deserve. Carol Ericson kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put down Chain of Custody. This story touched a nerve. I loved this book. Holding The Line is a powerful series. It’s a keeper.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
Danger is lurking! With book two in her Holding the Line series Carol Ericson grabs a reader’s attention quickly in CHAIN OF CUSTODY. The story is fast paced and action packed.
Nash Dillon is an interesting character. He sees crime every day, but he’s willing to help a friend even when it looks like she could be bordering on the wrong side of the law.
Emily Lang starts out playing a game of subterfuge but it doesn’t take long for her true identity to be uncovered and danger to start nipping at her heals.
I recommend this book and the series as a whole to anyone who enjoys a romance mixed with intrigue and suspense.
Nash has always been a “non-committer” when it comes to the ladies. He doesn’t really see himself with a family, at least not for awhile. So, when a baby is dropped off on his doorstep by a childhood friend (who is a real flake!) when he’s not even home, he’s pretty flustered! He doesn’t know anything about taking care of a baby but does his best until a “nanny” pretty much falls in his lap at the grocery store….little does he know Emily is just a PI who is working a case. However, they both want baby Wyatt’s safety and when Nash finds out who Emily really is, both of them will stop at nothing to keep Wyatt safe! I liked this second book in the series and it had a lot of action. There were constant questions as to who was after who and it kept you guessing! I liked how Nash’s character changed through the book. He was really cute with Wyatt! I’m already looking forward to the next book!
