With her ailing aunt in need of care and companionship, Saraid Garwich moves to her family’s forest estate. She’d never liked visiting as a child. She hated camping or anything to do with bugs, getting dirty, and not having the comforts of modern living. Something about the forest had always seemed dangerous. When one night during a fever dream, her aunt tells her that her destiny lies within the … the heart of the woods, Saraid promises her aunt she’ll go. When she does, she sees something she never thought possible: a man turning into a centaur. More surprisingly, the man is Keilan, her aunt’s groundskeeper. She thinks both of them are crazy and makes plans to return to her life in New York. Except she can’t get the centaur, or the man, out of her mind. And with each passing day, it’s becoming harder and harder to leave.
Keilan Ceffyl needs to find his mate. His family has lived in the secret woods, one of the last vestiges of magic, for generations. When Saraid comes to tend to her ailing aunt, her destiny becomes intertwined with his. She needs to become the Guardian and accept her destiny as his mate. Without her, both of their lines will end and the consequences for the worlds of magic and of man, will be devastating. But how can he convince a pampered city girl that living and loving through the forest will save them both?

First book I’ve read from this author. Saraid has come to help take care of her Aunt Aislyn. Saraid got lost in the woods when she was younger but the groundskeepers son lead her back home. Her Aunt is dying and time is growing short. Keilan, the groundskeeper, has been close to her aunt and Saraid has always felt something for Keilan but never pursued it. This story has plenty of adventure, action, mystery, suspense, danger, and steamy love. Also Keilan shows Saraid that he is a Centaurs shifter and also her mate. No more spoilers. This is an exciting story and you will want to finish it in one sitting. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lost, then found, in the woods
This book is a wonderful addition to the Zodiac Shifters collection. I loved the characters and the way the author made them so relatable. I enjoyed the storyline and the way that Keilan and Saraid were able to overcome so many obstacles to make the connection that fate intended. This book is a fairly fast read, but once I started I just couldn’t put it down. This might have been my first book by this author, but I don’t think it will be my last. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
It’s an outstanding read and very well written. full of magic, love and hate.

It is a very fast paced book that draws you into the story and characters with enough steam to keep you turning pages that leaves you wanting more makes a great read.
Overall, this was a decent book. I loved the premise and the foundations are that could make this into a book I would love. But it felt as though a lot of the plot was rushed. Saraid accepts her new world and falls into line with what should happen a little too easily and the conflict of the story didn’t seem to have more than a vague presence until roughly the halfway point. I think that if the story was fleshed out a bit more in an extended version that it could be an amazing story.

The Portal
This is my first book by Mary Winter and I picked it up on a whim. For a short story it was not bad. The characters of Keilan and Saraid were developed enough for a novella. The story line was compact but fairly well written.
I will have to checkout if she has any full length stories to get a true test of a story writing skills.

This is the first zodiac shifters story I have read, and my first book by Mary Winters. It’s a well crafted story full of magic, love and hate.
Ever feel the world was against you? That’s how Saraid was feeling. She lost her job in New York and then found out her beloved aunt was dying. Now she has returned to Wales and the ancestral home to take care of her aunt. Even though she had been captivated by her aunt’s stories of Centaurs running through the forest and other magical creatures on the otherside of the veil, she has always been uncomfortable just looking those woods.
Now her aunt has told her the stories and that magical world were true and she is destined to be the next guardian. If she doesn’t accept the guardianship, the connection between the worlds will be sealed and the magic will disappear. To do so, she must go to the center of the woods.
Five stars for this quick and enjoyable read filled with intrigue, romance, magic and fear/hate.

Great Story!! Saraid went home to take care of her dying aunt. Little did she know a whole new world would open up for her there. She ran into the old grounds keeper Keilan, and felt an instant attraction to him. When she dreamt that night it was about being a guardian, and finding a green book. Saraid’s aunt tells her she is the next guardian of the portal. All she wants is to go home to New York. She cannot stop thinking about Keilan though. Saraid, a systems analyst, is tending her ailing Aunt Aislyn at home in Wales. Saraid never like the woods behind her aunt’s house since she got lost in them as a child. Her aunt’s groundskeeper Keilan drops by to ask how her aunt is and Saraid who’s drawn to him invites Keilan to supper. After Keilan left, Saraid unable to sleep goes to her aunt’s library to find a book to read and finds a old journal that tells about Guardians and portals and centaurs. That night she dreams of a centaur who looks like Keilan and he tells her to find the green book because she’s the next Guardian and the portal is in danger. In the morning her aunt who turning for the worse, tells Saraid she’s the Guardian that she must go to the center of the woods where the portal is. Does Saraid with a analytical mind believe in the dream and what her ailing aunt said? What is Keilan involvement, is he really a centaur? This was a quick read with action and romance and was enjoyable to read. A great to addition to the “Zodiac Shifters” paranormal series. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.
A secret woods, a dying aunt and a destined mate have turned Saraid’s world upside down. Not only is she to replace her aunt as guardian of the magical woods and portal, but she must do it as Keilan’s mate. And he is not of this world, but a real live shape-shifting centaur.
As a young girl, Saraid got lost in these woods, but Keilan led her home. Now it is her turn to save Keilan after a vicious attack leaves him severely wounded, but her fear of the deep, dark wood is only the first obstacle she must battle.
This is the first zodiac shifters story I read. It captures the loneliness of a young girl enchanted by the fairy tales told by her aunt , captivated by that other world of magic, and her disbelief that that world is not only real but she will become the new guardian. Beautifully crafted.
