A doctor’s life gets turned upside by a dangerous new technology in this thought-provoking medical thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Robin Cook.George Wilson, M.D., a radiology resident in Los Angeles, is about to enter a profession on the brink of an enormous paradigm shift, foreshadowing a vastly different role for doctors everywhere. The smartphone is poised to take on a new … poised to take on a new role in medicine, no longer as a mere medical app but rather as a fully customizable personal physician capable of diagnosing and treating even better than the real thing. It is called iDoc.
George’s initial collision with this incredible innovation is devastating. He awakens one morning to find his fiancée dead in bed alongside him, not long after she participated in an iDoc beta test. Then several of his patients die after undergoing imaging procedures. All of them had been part of the same beta test.
Is it possible that iDoc is being subverted by hackers—and that the U.S. government is involved in a cover-up? Despite threats to both his career and his freedom, George relentlessly seeks the truth, knowing that if he’s right, the consequences could be lethal.

Very up to date subject – scary in that it might one day soon be true! I’m a Robin Cook fan and this did not contain as much medical information as his other books – this in no way detracted from the great plot, however!
As with ALL Robin Cook novels, his medical thrillers are all accurate and the writing is absolutely superb! The Cell was a great page-turning read!
I always enjoy Robin Cook.
Love Robin Cook and this book was great. Scary to think something like this might one day exist.
His books may seem futuristic but this one’s story line is quite realistic, and scary that our bodies may soon be run by software. I loved the whole book — kept me reading till the wee hours. I was just disappointed in the end…I would have like more written and not just left open for interpretation, tho’ it’s likely most would come to the same conclusion re. the fate of the main character.
not one of his best books
Love Robin Cook books
Robin Cook never disappoints!
Quite interesting. It explores the wonders of technology and medical advances as well as the tragic possibilities that greed and corruption can bring. Thought-provoking and realistic.
I’ve read a lot by this author, but this one was just too hard to plow thru. I think the author is “phoning it in”
Not as good as Cook’s other books. Disappointing ending. However, I did enjoy the book and the suspense, but it petered out at the end.
Hiss books are always good and probable.
This book is a preview of things that could happen in medicine in the future. Very scary.
It kept me at reading it
I got invested in this book and enjoyed it but there wasn’t really an ending. It left it open for a sequel which I have been unable to locate so I don’t know if the story ever gets finished.
Not up to his usual novels
Too long
Too boring
Love Robin Cook!
I enjoyed this–great summer read. Not his best, but entertaining.
Watch out. So many plot twists. I love these medical thrillers, one of my favorites was “Marker” by Robin Cook also. They are believable, that’s what is so scary. Chilling!
It was a medical suspense pertinent for people diabetics living in the 21st century. Scary but plausible!
