What do you get when your father’s a centaur and your mother’s a powerful magician? A unicorn shifter… You’d think being the only known unicorn shifter in the world would have a few benefits. Like, people treating you kindly or getting special treatment from the council. Not in my case. I’d be lucky to get a piece of bread thrown at me.My name is Celestia Rainbow, and yes, my last name is … is Celestia Rainbow, and yes, my last name is fucking Rainbow.
Shifters assume that I’m kind by nature, but trust me: I’m fierce, short-tempered and have the mouth of a sailor. Add in my stealthy fighting skills, advanced magic casting, and swift movement, I’m someone you wouldn’t want to mess with. But everyone looks at my shifter side – my ditzy, peaceful half, sprinkling magic dust, and on a mission to end world hunger.
Regardless of my dual personality, I’ve sworn to become a huntress at Aslan Academy. Now that I’m of age–my lucky twenty-fifth birthday just happens to coincide with the entrance exams–I’m ready to prove my worth.
Too bad I’m grouped up with six sinful looking men.
Time to prove to my community, classmates and this attractive bunch of weirdos that unicorns can kick ass too.

Celestia is great. I like her strength and attitude. This is the start of a series, and does have a surprise ending. I like the connections she has with each of the guys, and can’t wait to see each of them develop more as the series continues. Hopefully book 2 is out soon 🙂
This is book one in my favorite series from Yumoyori Wilson. I just read it a second time, and the story is still just as exciting. I encourage anyone who might still be on the fence about this series after this first book to KEEP READING because it just gets better!
First I want to say, unicorn….freakin awesome! The cover is amazing, the characters, world building and storyline are epic! That ending, Yumo you blew my freaking mind! Yumoyori Wilson had the best female leads ever. They are strong, hilarious, have sad and troubled pasts but rise up despite it. The male characters are equally amazing, each with their own sadness and backstory, each with distinctive and varied personalities and all of whom are strong, loving and supportive. Then the story itself has twists and turns, a roller coaster ride of emotions, magic and non stop action. I can’t wait to continue reading Celestia’s story because after an ending like that, it can only get more crazy from here.
I loved Celestia and Sia. She’s such a bada** character. She is a really well crafted character, and who doesn’t love a heroine who’s reached rock bottom and climbed her way back out?
Her male counterparts are interesting as well, each with his own story to tell. I do feel they weren’t as well developed as Celestia, but hopefully that’ll change in later books.
I really enjoyed the plot line, Celestia earning her spot into the Aslan Academy to become a huntress and the obstacles she’s faces along the way.
I will say that I struggled a bit with the whole instant connection thing with her guys. I prefer where there’s more build in the relationship before that level of comfort is reached, especially with the background that Celestia/Sia has.
Still this book/series is such a great addition to the Starlight Gods world! I would definitely recommend it. I mean, come on….a unicorn shifter is seriously amazeballs!!
Oh and that ending?? So did not see that coming!
Celestia is a magical and emotional masterpiece!
Celestia is the only known unicorn shifter and has to hide her true self even though most of the people around her don’t believe her that unicorns exist. On the contrary, they bully, abuse and neglect her. Her parents are working far away so she has to go through this all alone. Taking care of yourself when you’re not even 9 years old is more than tough. But luckily the day she almost succumbs to the darkness and pain that her life has become she’s been taking under the wing of one of the most powerfull and respected shifters. Everyone thinks a unicorn shifter has to be nice and sparkly, well with Celestia you’ll be in for a surprise! She’s a skilled and trained bad-ass fighter that opens up her heart for her 6 teammates at Aslan Academy. The Academy is everything she has trained dir and even though she’s skilled and tough the fights coming her way are massive and full of action. Good she has her new (more than) teammates by her side.
Celestia was an absolutely fantastic read and the plot twist at the end was freakin brilliant!!! I sooo haven’t seen that coming! Can’t wait for the next book!
OMG my mind is now blown. This book has some of the most incredible world building that I have ever read. On top of that are the characters that are so well developed you feel like you have known them your whole life rooting them on as they get going. Celestia has so many sides to her that my mind was blown. If you want to enter of world of magic, wonder, amazement, and more then you so have to read this book!!! Team Misfit for life! If you can’t tell I loved it so it gets 5/5 stars.
Omg this book was so totally amazing! So much building and releasing so many ups and downs! And all the emotions I went through that I actually feel like I just ran a fast pace marathon.
Yumoyori Wilson had me crying before I had even finished the first chapter! She had me laughing, squealing, growling and crying again, it was a constant cycle all throughout this entire book!
I have to say this amazing book has become one of my absolute favorites and I most definitely look forward to reading book 2!
So if you haven’t figured it out yet, that is a big HECK YES I definitely recommend this book because it’s AWESOME!! Yumoyori Wilson definitely rocks with her story weaving skills! So if you haven’t read any of her work yet then I suggest that you do because you will not be disappointed in your choice.
Yet again a brilliant read from this author. The characters are unreal. They make the settings and the plot fuller. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love the out of this world (pun intended) world-building and amazing story lines. It’s just that the characters are fricking exceptional.
Take Celestia, the fmc, for an example. At such a young age, and no one else to take care of her, she’s already facing the ugliness of bullying and stupidity of narrow-minded beings. At 3% into this read, she pretty much broke me already. But then after that fateful day, she’s given a chance to rise from the brink of death. And rise, she did. She grew up beautifully; she grew up strong and smart. She was most amazing during those entrance exams! I could practically feel the adrenaline myself while reading her in action.
She broke me again when the guys decided to adopt her into their team. When they realized she could be their everything but she herself felt nothing. I noticed how she mentioned a lot of times how dumbfounded she was that the guys befriended her at all. Unfortunately, for all her remarkable physical & mental strength, her extraordinary magic as a rare unicorn shifter…she had yet to see her current self as she was. And I would be looking forward for her (and the guys to help her) bolster self-worth and emotional strength.
Then there were the guys. As usual, they were all dreamy and kind and funny.
Special mention to the legend, Magnor Rune. I know how Celestia worshiped him since he ‘saved’ her from herself. But obviously, the old man also found his own salvation in Celestia. it’s the most beautiful thing in the book. plus i ugly-sobbed that time when Celestia was leaving for the academy.
PS I don’t how Celestia does it…with the parents situation. I know, guys…I know. I know that they are responsible for the greater good and all that jazz. But yeah, it doesn’t lessen any of the pain I felt on behalf of Celestia. I kind of resent them for not being there when she needed them the most. And isn’t that the tragedy of the century? In my eyes, they will always be the absentee parents. Great (greatest?) authority figures they might be…great parents they weren’t. (But I’m not above giving forgiveness if some time they’re able to redeem themselves.) Celestia, you rock! Your understanding at such a young age where most needed tender care and affection? I can’t even fathom.
PPS Have I told you all how I love Magnor Rune? Greatest man ever!!!
Hahh, another great RH story. I love them, recently I joined a reader group specifically dedicated to reverse harem reads and since then my TBR just gets bigger and bigger due to being bombarded with better and better recommendations.
Since this was my first book from the author I didn’t go into it with any kind of huge expectations, I was just kinda excited for the whole unicorn shifter thing. The writing was great, easy to get into and had a flowing dynamic, no complaint there. For the most part the book is true to it rainbow colored cover and unicorn theme, alas it has a lot of fluffy and cute elements too it. It usually not my jam but there was a lot of other things in the book that I adored, not everything but a lot.
First of all I think the whole world is interesting and has a lot of potential. I loved the idea of different dimensions and whole magical society. I really enjoyed the idea of a unicorn shifter, which is a rarely used element in these kind of stories. So yes there are a lot of things to the world that’s exciting but unfortunately it’s barely detailed, there is only a small insight into the working of this imaginary world.
I also liked the idea of the hunter/huntress academy, I always enjoyed these kind of books and it’s not a different story either.
The boys are also a definite draw for me, because I loved them. Especially the twins, they were funny and cheeky. Yes maybe some of their actions and characteristic was a bit predictable and cliché but I still liked it.
Now for the things that disappointed me. First of all was the feeling the despite the characters were supposedly 25 and up they acted rather like 16 years old teenagers, their personalities and reactions simply lacked the maturity. It is not necessary a problem because if you look at it from a different stand point, the story is consistent, so if you change up the written down age to the younger atmosphere then the story fits.
What caused the biggest problem for me was Celestia character. There are a lot of things that I liked about her or thought I’m going to like about her but overall she was a pretty annoying part of the story. I found the whole split personality idea interesting and fresh but I had the feeling from the beginning that in the long run it won’t work. Then there is the depressing turn her story takes right at the beginning. I usually like these because authors can spin them in a way that in the end there is a great character growth coming from it and I was waiting for this in here too. However, after she told her poor me story for the fifth time in two chapters it started to annoy me not to mention the whole impact of her bulling was a bit overdramatized for me. Yes, when you are 9, alone, bullied and beaten constantly, it hurts and can break you down. However, when you are 25, talented and powerful and the worst things they throw at you is ‘Look at the unicorn, why don’t you throw some glitter?’ and you break down and hide in the corner, then it’s just not believable. Because the taunts that caused her panic attacks and such were so ridiculous and childish that I didn’t understand the whole situation. So her poor me attitude annoyed the hell out me after a while, not to mention her constant complaining that she doesn’t have friends and such when she didn’t even try. Her character is just not the best and has a couple of pretty big flaws.
Lastly there is that ending, which was surprising as heck and made me feel like the story I read so far and enjoyed for the most part, just went up in smoke and I wasted my time. Anyway I’m going to read the next book as well because as I mentioned I like the boys and the world building, I just hope Celestia character is going to improve a bit in it. Get some confidence girl!!
Just WOW! That was awesome! I can not wait to see what happens with Celestia and her guys in the next book! Yumoyori has done it again amazing characters and storyline, keep the amazing stories coming please!
