Another great continuation in the Omega series. Roman and Kiera were engaging characters and from their whirlwind start through all the obstacles standing in their way, including themselves, to the explosive end, their happy ending was worth the wait and really nice to see.
This story was full of page-turning suspense, danger, emotional conflict, lots of action, crazy bad guys, the continuation in the search for Friehof to end his mad reign of terror, drama and angst, new connections, family, friends, and romance…really, a little bit of everything to hold interest.
I really liked Roman and Kiera’s characters, though I could have done without his snooty mother and her interference (I really wanted to tell her off a time or two, ugh!) Roman, recovering from a life-threatening injury from a previous book, was currently assigned desk duty, seeing the Omega therapist to verify his stability and emotional health to return to the field, and re-evaluating the direction of his life. While at his friends’ wedding (Andrea and Brandon from Man of Action) he meets Kiera, Andrea’s friend, and they have a sizzling instant connection and spend an exciting, whirlwind weekend together locked away from the world. When life intrudes on their time together, they drift apart but can never forget their intense connection or what they had together. However, they both had secrets they never shared and aside from reality crashing in on their happiness, secrets, past hurts, future expectations, and a deadly threat along with an unexpected pregnancy they are really in for a bumpy ride.
I enjoyed the development of Roman and Kiera’s relationship. Although it started out in a rush, their reconnecting was done at a nice pace and let them sort out their issues in a believable time period. Again, I could have done without his mother’s interference (I really did not like her through most of the book) but towards the end after a few shocking surprises that I did not see coming, she grew on me.
I also enjoyed the way Crouch blended their worlds together, interconnecting their common goals and dreams. With Roman’s powerful family and his potential political future and Kiera’s past and dark secrets I was surprised at how well they were able to combine their interests but it worked great for their HEA. And the scene at the very end was so sweet and romantic; it was the perfect ending.
Damien Freihof is still determined to get rid of anyone that Omega Sector loves. This time it’s Keira Spencer who he believed to be important to Roman Weber, an Omega Sector agent because she had spent a weekend with him a couple of months earlier. He didn’t know they hadn’t seen each other since. When Omega found out Freihof was after Keira, they sent someone to safeguard her. The man assigned was Roman. He was thrilled to be doing this because Keira had dumped him after their fantastic weekend and he was dying to see her. He never knew the reason she did it was that his mother had made it clear that Roman was destined for better things and Keira would hold him back.
I liked Kiera a lot. She didn’t let her abusive past hold her back but used her experiences to help other abused women by giving them a place to live and learn a trade when she opened Fresh Starts. I do wish she had said something to Roman’s mother, though, instead of believing what she said and walking away from him. Not only was Roman a terrific agent but a good man. He understood Keira’s abusive past and didn’t push her but was patent with her. His reaction to the pregnancy was what every woman hopes for. You’ve gotta love a man who protects his woman, whether she wants it or not.
I FLEW through this book. Janie’s writing flows so smoothly, the editing is meticulous and the suspense was sprinkled in juuuuuuuust the right places to keep me eagerly turning the pages.
Although not necessary to read the prior books, as someone who hasn’t, I recommend doing so. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Cease Fire. The story is written as such that you can piece together what has happened before. Great characters and a strong plot line carry this action packed romantic suspense to a gripping conclusion.
There’s nothing I love more than a woman who kicks ass and sticks up for herself and others. Keira is made of win. She has a fire and a passion inside of her that couldn’t be extinguished by an anguishing past. Roman is an amazing partner to her. Someone who understands what it means to be human, frail, and vulnerable. He allows her freedom within the bounds of protection and is always in her corner.
Well, except for their one falling out that caused a two-month separation, but not for the reason Keira or Roman’s mother thinks. The depth of his feeling was intense and more than he could handle and adding in his mother’s manipulation, his fear won out and he pulled away. Their reunion was realistic, frustrating, and perfect for the story. Adding in the drama surrounding the Omega Sector and you get one hell of a ride.
The complexities of character were there mostly in Keira and while not as strong in Roman, it didn’t diminish the strength of his character in the least. I do wish that Keira had told off Roman’s mom or at least silently maintained her backbone instead of retreating inside herself. Roman’s dedication to her and his actions showed only support and commitment. Making decisions for someone else based on insecurity and/or manipulation is wrong no matter what the intention behind it is. I was very glad for Roman’s intuitiveness to head off any other foolish separations with his honesty and insightful questions and declarations.
The danger to Keira was a bit unexpected and made the novel more focused on Keira and Roman’s story rather than the underlying plot for the entirety of the Omega teams in regards to Freihof. Freihof is more of a puppeteer and his role is far from over and will be continued in more of the Under Siege series. For Roman and Keira, though, Freihof orchestrated a confrontation between them and Keira’s harrowing past. The conclusion of which was surprising with the character that rode in to save the day. Such a great story with an awesome ending that was perfect for the MC’s and their evolution.
this is an action packed story, we meet some old friends from previous books, and some new ones, loved it, I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review. looking forward to reading more. if you like suspense, with alpha males and strong women, you have to read the series. I read it in one day could not put it down,
The Omega Sector’s intense and riveting fight for survival continues as Damien Freihof has made it his mission in life to make the members of the Omega Sector suffer like he has suffered. Damien Freihof has made the battle personal, and it seems that the elite agency is crumbling under the attacks coming from all sides.
Most of the characters in this story are old acquaintances in the series, and I would recommend reading the previous books before reading this one, to grasp the whole picture. Not just with the malice, Damien Freihof is causing, but the female lead is also introduced previously, and to get the whole backstory, in my opinion, is rather important in this case.
Keira Spencer is an amazing heroine. She is as genuine as they come, she is a tough and strong woman, she is not afraid to stand up for herself, she is a survivor, and she is a role model, philanthropist, smart, independent lady who has learned the hard way to take care of herself. Keira is my favorite part of the story, she won my heart over when she was first introduced, and she was shining in this tale, as well.
I liked Keira and Roman Weber together, they seemed to have such a special, good, solid, sizzling, connection at the beginning of the tale. The chemistry was there, the spark was more like an inferno, and they both were really into each other. Until they were not.
One of my pet peeves in romance novels is the grown people who let their meddling parents influence their lives, especially if those parents are snobbish, arrogant, and/or condescending like Roman’s mother. I’m not going to get more into details so I don’t give away anything, but his mother never won me over, after everything she did. And Roman, well, there’s a rant here that would give away the whole suspense plot of the story, so I just say that he is a very lucky man, indeed.
Ah, do not get me wrong I did enjoy the book. I was clued into the story, it is compelling, it touched my emotions and broke my heart a bit. It is engrossing, filled with twists, and it fast paced even though it takes over a longer period of a time. The story is filled with dangerous attacks, that puts some of our favorite characters into life and death situations, that had me gasping, and worried sick for their survival. I enjoyed the story immensely, it was a great continues to the series, and I can’t wait to read the last installment, next month, to find out how it all will be solved.
And Keira, she will definitely go to the hall of fame as one of my favorite heroines of all times. That survival instinct accompanied by the desire and will to help and better other people’s lives, the smarts and guts, she is a true ‘shero’ and every time I think of her, the song Super Woman by Alicia Keys plays in my mind. She deserves all the best in the world, and at the end, Roman might just grow to fit that spot perfectly.
What will happen to the Omega Sector? Will it crumble and fall at the multiple of attacks by the criminal mastermind? Are they able to catch the killer, the one person who has hurt them and their loved ones? Will there be Omega Sector left after Damien Freihof is done and ready with them? The hurt and injured agents that we have grown to care for, what will be their future and destiny, will the recover fully, will they all survive? So many questions left open at the end, and I can’t wait to find out what will happen!
~ Four Spoons
This book continues the quest of finding Damien Freihof, the evil man who has decided to destroy Omega Sector, by killing and/or incapacitating it’s members. While his monstrous mind threatens the group, a mole has been discovered, but who it is, is still unknown.
Intertwined in that story, we have Roman Weber and Keira Spencer who had a weekend affair when they met at the wedding of mutual friends. Roman is a member of the Omega Sector SWAT team and Keira is hairdresser whose past has made her the woman she is today.
But after that idillic weekend, they abruptly part ways after an incident with Roman’s mother .
Two months later they meet again. She needs protection and he is determined to provide it and get back together with her, and she has to confess to him the consequences of their time together.
It was a fast paced story, filled with suspense, evil individuals, and romance. The characters were complex and well developed.
Definitely looking forward to what else Ms Crouch has in store for us in her next book.
This was an ARC copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
