Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)
By Sharleen Scott
This is the first book I have read by this author, and even though this is the third book in the series I had no problem following the story. Now that I have read this book I am definitely going to go read the first two. I found this book intriguing and suspenseful. I enjoyed reading this story from beginning to end. Jace isn’t looking for a relationship, and Samantha just got out of a bad one. Even though neither of them expected it they found themselves attracted to each other and wanting to see where it goes. Jace’s past comes back to haunt him and it ends up putting both of them in danger. This story kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down till I got to the end. If you want to know how their relationship ends up then this is a must read. I highly recommend this book, I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Caught in make-believe Book three in the CAUGHT series by Sharleen Scott
Four Stars
This story gives you the feeling that it’s just another HEA. But you would be wrong to think that. Jace is more than just a writer and his choices has put a lot of people in danger. He experienced a lot of lose and pain. I didn’t like him at first but he grew on me as the story went on. Sam is a great character and I felt a great match for Jace. She was funny and down to earth. She didn’t tae herself too serious and I amirer how strong she was. She kept her head up in the face of so much disappointment. Liked the way the author put this story together. The mystery, suspense and action was so thrilling. I had no clue what to expect next. The author gave these characters a view of the world that not many experience. The thought that you don’t have a place to live or how you were going to feed your kid. Most people don’t worry about this but it’s a fear many have. I enjoyed how quick and smooth this story was. I didn’t really have to stop and reread anything. Overall this is something you would want to read if you are looking for something more than your usual.
Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott was a fast moving, suspense, romance that had me hooked from start to finish.
My first read by this author and this series, I was pulled in right away by the, in your face opening, that not only set the stage it showed us were this story was going to go. I love those cold opens, sometimes being tossed into a story in progress is the best way to get submerged, if done right, and Sharleen Scott more than did it right.
As this being the third book, and me being me, not starting were I should, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, as this does read as a standalone. As I got to know more about the side characters, I learned that they have stories of their own, and if they’re anything like this one, I’m going to be in for a treat.
Jumping in we meet Sam in a very, unplents situation, we get a good look at her as a person, and I liked her right off the bat. Girl got no time for BS. Now for Jace, even though he came across as a t-bag, there is a sadness to his character, and right away you can’t help but be drawn to him. As we get more into his backstory and his dark past, you get a better sense of why he is the way that he is. As these two get closer and connect, and fall, it just makes you all melty. It progressed at a steady pace, nothing felt forced and you can’t help but root for them.
The overall plot, and subplot is intriguing and gives this story a little something special. The added suspense mystery adds a danger element to the sweetness, making the story feel balanced and entertaining. That aside the writing was easy to follow, the POV switches were clean and clear as who was talking. I never felt confused or lost. This book is damn near perfect, and I can’t wait to dive into the other two books.
Overall this book is worth your time and energy. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will get sucked into this world and be unable to put it down.
Happy Reading

Caught in Make-Believe is the third book in the Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. Even though this is the third book you can read it as a stand-alone. There will be character references that you may want to go and read the other two books, having said that it should not distract from the story. This story is a romance mystery, thriller, about having a second chance, and a new meaning to the same story. I found myself reading quickly through one part to get to the next scene, only to find out to go back and reread some part because there was a twist when I thought it was going to be a turn. This story is about Samantha who is the manager of Sweet Stuff bakery. She is a wonderful character that I would consider a great friend. At times she is that person who is optimistic all the time. She is fighting a bad break up of a engagement with a cheating fiancé. She finds herself getting close to Jace who was a reporter who has been away for five years. He is ready to put his skeletons away and try this thing called life. You will have to read what has happened with Jace and Samantha’s story. It is an intriguing read all the way around.
Caught in Make Believe by Sharleen Scott a four-star read that you need to catch. This is the third novel in the Caught series and it could be read as stand-alone, but you always get the most out of a novel by reading the series. This has it all mystery and drama, second chances and twists, you will be kept guessing and wondering what happened and will you figure the clues out and work what’s really going on? I like Jace in his gentlemanly ways, but you can’t escape your past. Samantha was a good character but there was something about her that took some warming up to, overall a great story.
Caught in Make-Believe is Book 3 in the Caught Series from author Sharleen Scott. This author has given me a brilliant introduction into her writing style and characters she creates, and I will definitely be looking out for more of her reads.
This is my first read from this author, which also makes this my first read in this series, I recommend that books 1 & 2 should be read before this one, just so that you avoid the confusion that got when I first started reading this book. After a while I got into the flow of it and then eventually I couldn’t put the read down. This was a brilliant romantic suspense read, that had twists and turns throughout, that had me on the edge of my seat. Jace and Samantha have a great chemistry that I enjoyed reading and following their journey. This book also has me expecting certain things and then the author completely change the course of the book, which kept me on the edge of my seat even more.
I loved that this book was written in various POV’s it gave us more insight into our characters – what they were really thinking and feeling and gave greater depth and realness to Jace & Samantha.
This was a brilliant read with amazing characters – I highly recommend you read book 1 & 2 but this read is not to be missed!
Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott is the third book in the Caught Series and follows the story of Jace and Samantha.
The story is following Jace who is an investigated Journalist but something happens while he is researching for a story that lands him in trouble. As he is in hiding he stumbles upon a town where he encounters a woman who he wants to get to know more, but with his past will he be able to pursue happiness without getting her involved in his history.
Samantha owns a bakery and is a successful businesswoman but has always been unlucky in love, her last relationship ended pretty badly as she is about to give men the big heave ho until Jace walks in and throws all caution out of the window.
The story is full of twists and turns and the chemistry between these two characters jumps of the page. The writing is brilliant and draws you into the story from the first chapter, with the twists and turns, added in some suspense will have you frantically turning the pages to see what happens next. This is the first book in this series I have read and I didn’t feel like I had missed anything from the previous books in this serious. I would recommend this book and I will be looking at reading the first two books to see what I have missed.
This is the third book of the caught series and can be read as a standalone but i recommend reading the others first so you can get a better understanding and insight. This story pulled me in with plenty of mystery and suspense keeping me on the edge of my seat. I just couldn’t pull my eyes away i was completely captivated by the storyline. I just couldn’t set it down was eager to find out what was going to happen next it certainly keeps you on your toes with the gripping storyline. I can’t wait to read more from this author i enjoyed every second of novels highly recommend!
This one has it all – romance, mystery, suspense. It can definitely be enjoyed as a stand-alone. However I believe greatest enjoyment would come from reading this series in order. This book has a steady pace, a fantastic ebb and flow. I loved the characters and how they developed throughout the story. All in all, a fantastic book and one I look forward to reading again to catch any details I missed the first time.

Caught In Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) By Sharleen Scott is the third book in The Caught Series. This is a romantic suspense that I couldn’t put down once I started reading it. There are some twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. This can be read as standalone but I recommend reading the first two books as well as it will give you some background on the characters, but its not necessary. Jace has come home after being gone for five years,he’s a investigative writer. He’s been on the move but hiding since tragedy struck.Samatha has decided no more men for her that is until she meets Jace. The chemistry between these two is oh my Hot! Jace has a past that soon catches up to him and could put Sam in danger. This is a must read.I highly recommend reading this book not just this Book but the whole series. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott is a suspense romance and the first book I have read by this author. The references to things in the past and characters lead me to believe that the books in this series should be read in order and I will be going back to read them. Having said that I really enjoyed and was fully engrossed in this mysterious and and suspense of the story of Sam and Jace. There is action and drama that will have you intrigued and hanging on every word and trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle that Sharleen had weaved so well. The story is told in several POV’s which gives the story that much more richness. Samantha’s clock is ticking but she has yet to meet a man that can fill her expectations, that is until one closed off and secretive stranger enters her world. Jace, has been in hiding and on the move after tragedy struck. Now he has come home and just when he thinks that maybe, just maybe he can open his heart again, he finds that not only himself but everyone he knows, is once again in danger of his past. This is a page turner that should not to be missed.
Caught in Make-Believe: The Caught Series, Book 3 by Sharleen Scott
4 out of 5 stars
This 3rd installment in the Caught series is a fantastic book. It can be read as a standalone, however, you would gain a lot of insight and background knowledge from past characters, and relationships if you read the previous 2 books. While it does not take away from Caught in Make-Believe, I am a firm believer, as a reader, that you should read a series from Book 1. Samantha and Jace are our two main characters. Samantha is a woman who is lucky in business but unlucky in love. Her most recent relationship ended in such a terrible way that she is on the verge of swearing off men. In walks Jace, an investigative journalists who uncovered a massive story that sent him into hiding for 5 years.
Jace does not want to put Samantha in danger and Samantha knows that Jace’s stay will most likely be temporary, but they are drawn together in a way that is both explosive and necessary. But Jace’s past catches up with him and he soon figures out that 5 years away, is not nearly enough to escape the dangers that are after him.
I loved this story. The suspense combined with the romance made for a perfect book to curl up and read on a rainy friday night. The sentence structures were full and complete thoughts and the paragraphs flowed from to the other. I never felt rushed, nor did I feel that I was not given enough information during this book. Highly recommended!
Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott is the third book in her The Caught series. This book can be read as a standalone although I feel as a reader you would benefit from starting at the beginning of the series to get the full background and character build up. However it is not necessary and does not take away from the story.
This was a new author for me and I loved how intrigued she kept me throughout the story. I couldn’t wait to find out who was behind the threat to Jace and Samantha. I couldn’t wait to see if they would find a way to make their relationship work. The chemistry and attraction between them was obvious and believable right from the word go.
The way in which this story was built up help to build the interest and keep you hooked all the way through. The story and characters were well developed and created a depth to the story that made it even better.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will definitely be going back to read the whole series.

“This wasn’t some make-believe game…. These people played for keeps.”
Caught in Make-Believe is the third book in The Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. This is my first read from Ms. Scott, and even though this book could be read as a standalone, there were characters and references to past events, that I felt I should have known about. It didn’t detract from this story, but it did pique my curiosity to read the other books and find out what happens in them, too. This is a romantic suspense, with mystery, suspense, second chances, some action, drama, and so much more. The story is quite intriguing, and I found myself throwing around various scenarios in my mind, trying to put all the pieces together and work out what was going on. The mystery and suspense were done really well done and kept the momentum of the story going.
Samantha Dylan is the manager at “Sweet Stuff” bakery, she is an outgoing, likeable, and optimistic person who hasn’t had much luck in the relationship department, having just broken up with her cheating fiancé (ex). At 35 she feels her biological clock ticking and has begun to worry that she may never get her chance to experience motherhood, especially since she wasn’t getting any younger. When a grumpy, prickly man enters the bakery for a cup of coffee and something to eat, little did she know just how much her world would be turned upside down.
Jace Colton is a writer, a former investigative reporter who has just made his way ‘home’ after 5 long years travelling. He is haunted by a tragedy that forced him to flee- he had delved too deeply into a story and got too close to some very dangerous information which painted a target on his back. He’s been living off the grid, always on the move, never staying anywhere for any length of time- with only his dog Martin for company. But now he’s been drawn home- because he thinks he has what he needs to finally lay his past to rest, once and for all.
“He accelerated with timidity, not wanting to do this, but knowing he must. The past required a showdown. Pistols or swords at dawn.”
The last thing he expected was to meet someone who made him feel ‘alive’ again for the first time in 5 years. But, with a target on his back, anyone who associated with him could also be in danger. What happens when the danger he’s been running from finally catches up with him?
This was a very interesting story that is wonderfully detailed and descriptive. It’s told from several points of view which gives the reader a real immersive reading experience. The tension, suspense and drama were crafted really well and kept me flipping the pages to keep up with what was happening and piecing the puzzle together.
I’m off to explore the other two books now!
Thank you, Ms. Scott!
This is a romance-mystery-suspense book that I enjoyed from the beginning, along with the twists and turns. Jace is an investigative writer that has come home after five years. Samantha has decided no more project men for her but then she meets Jace. What will happen when Jace’s past catches up to him? Will it put them both in danger? I enjoyed both of these characters and their chemistry. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens to them.

The story Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott is a romantic suspense book. It is a story that hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a book with enough mystery and suspense that I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Jace Colton and Samantha Dylan. Samantha is the manager of the local bakery and a woman who has not been lucky in relationships. The way her last one ended has her contemplating not starting another. Then she meets Jace. Jace is an investigative journalist who five years ago was on the edge of a story that would be big if and when it broke. Tragedy and threats drove him to disappear. He is now back in Angel Beach, Oregon and has found himself attracted to Samantha. She knows that his stay is most likely temporary. He doesn’t want to put her in danger. Both Jace and Samantha’s attraction to each other leads them into a relationship. Their feelings for each other are strong and there is a passion between them. When odd events start happening is it because of Jace’s past and if so, how much danger is this couple in? What does the future hold for both Jace and Samantha? Will they get a chance at an HEA? Read this book to find out. I found myself growing to love both Jace and Samantha with each chapter that I read. They are a couple that is meant to be together and I was always rooting for them. As I grew up in a small town, I loved that this book was set in one. Most of the additional characters know each other, and the community seems to be tight knit. It gives you a warm feeling just like you have come home. I also enjoyed the bantering back and forth that goes on between Jace and Samantha. This is a wonderfully written story with some amazing characters. Highly recommended reading.

The beginning seemed slow to me. There was a lot of setting the scene and meeting new (to me) people. I started a list to keep them straight then realized that a few were related. This is the third series in a book and I have not read the first two. That might have helped a bit in the confusion area.
Once the two main characters becomes tangled up with each other the story picked up a bit. This is a romantic suspense and I wasn’t sure where the suspense was until about half way through. Then it seemed mostly suspense and not much romance. I am not sure what it is about this story but I can’t seem to connect with the characters. I don’t care about them so this fell flat for me.
As mentioned this is the third in the series and maybe if I had read the first two I might be better off. Maybe I would be able to connect better. I did like the advice that Jace gave Samantha on writing.
