This book is a great debut novel for MV Ellis. This is the story of London and Arlo. London is working as a cleaning woman and is trying to save up money to get her own studio. Arlo loves his band and performing music. In the beggining I really didn’t like him but started trying to be a better person for London. They are right for each other.I really enjoyed this book and look forward for the next one.
You had me at “Rock Star” and WOW I couldn’t get enough of Arlo Jones. From page one you were speaking my language. I just loved the banter between these two characters. London was the perfect little dynamo, she had it all going, she was a survivor and she was smart. She knew what she needed to do in the next chapter of her life and she was going to work hard to achieve it.
This was the story of the surly, arrogant Front man of the hottest band on the scene who comes home from a tour to find a naked woman in his shower and assumes she is a fangirl. London happens to be his cleaner and was just as shocked to see him and he was to see her as nobody had ever been in that house before. He doesn’t believe her story for one minute she is too young and cute and lithe to be a cleaner and he certainly didn’t believe that she didn’t recognize him. He was hot property everyone wanted a piece of him. There is tension but it turns into sexual chemistry once the truth is revealed.
Arlo invites her back to look after the management of his house on a permanent basis while he and his twin brother Luke live there, while on break from tour. He sweetens the deal by the huge injection of cash. Money she needs to build up her photography business, her new venture after being robbed of her two loves. Her past has been struck by tragedy when she lost her fiancé and her ability to perform as a Ballet dancer.
Arlo wanted her from day one and eventually he wore her down, the temptation for this man was just too much he was irresistible, and she knew it was time she tried to move on. After their HAF afternoon delight she took some candid shots on her phone of the perfect specimen of man lying before her on his bed. He liked what he saw she had talent. He also liked her but she wasn’t falling for his charm she knew his reputation with woman dropping panties at his feet. She was sassy and spoke her mind and didn’t take any of his crap. Which really made her all the more alluring. He offered her a gig to be his personal photographer on their world tour. Another opportunity she couldn’t refuse. Her future as a Professional Photographer was in the bag if she could pull this off. There were so many lines in this book that had me smiling. It was such an easy read, really funny scenes. London has a male best friend by the name of Marko, who brings some very entertaining chapters to the storyline.
Cantankerous prick one minute and swoon-worthy heartthrob the next Arlo’s actions speak volumes with the things he does for her but she is still unable to see a future with this man even though she is herself enamored of him.
The tour finishes and London goes ahead establishing herself as a photographer capturing the Rock God. What she captures in her photos is her reciprocated love for him.
Their hot raunchy sex scenes are just flawless and very visual. The whole book is like that and I can’t wait to read more about this very special couple in the future. A taste of Luke would be a treat too!
This wasn’t the best, but it definitely wasn’t the worst rock-star romance I read: 3.5 stars.
First of all, for a debut novel, the writing wasn’t bad – the fast paced story, a lot of dialog, a lot of internal monologues as well – it was all well balanced. However, there are so many rock-star stories in this industry that I like to see something new and innovative and different when I pick one of these romances up. And, unfortunately, there were so many clichés here – it gets old . The story, the problems characters are facing, all of it was a little too much already seen. One thing I cant criticize are the steamy parts of the book: intense and hot.
It’s the classic story of a good girl and a bad boy falling in love. One thing I did like was that even though Arlo, the main character, seems like a complete a**hole at first – too arrogant for anybody’s liking (in fact, the perfect description in the book was:”This guy’s a piece of work.”), he was at the end much more open to the idea of love than our heroine, London. That’s why it would have been ever better if we had a chance to read some of his POV, and why I think the second book would be much, much better!
The main struggle while reading for me represented the main characters. At times I loved them, at other times… not so much. Both of the MCs irritated me to no end with their mood swings. It was a bit of whiplash. On the other hand, London thinks like a guy, and I love it. She is a strong female character, she loves sex, and she’s not afraid to say so! We need more female characters like her! Arlo – you hate to do it, but you love his arrogant a**. Especially when he starts opening up and talking – he’s just got a way with words!
“This right here. You, me. What we’re feeling right now. This is everything. You know that, right?”
If you love rock star romance, pick this one up. Even with all I criticized in this review, at the end you’re just interested in knowing more about these characters. Patiently waiting for book #2 now!
Catching London is M. V. Ellis’s debut novel about Arlo, a rockstar and, London, a budding photographer/ex-ballet dancer. Arlo, the is the archetypal bad boy. London was recently in an automobile accident that severely injured her and killed her fiancé. The story utilizes several romance tropes: an alpha-male bad boy who f*cks every woman he can and the damaged heroine.
This book had potential, but its beginning was so hyper I nearly quit reading as London runs through a house that’s not hers stripping her clothes off due to her arachnophobia. I understand that New Adult is sex (including detailed sex scenes), bad boys, and too much drama as young people explore their options in life. Neither protagonist appears to have moved beyond adolescent hormones and even started moving into adulthood. The sex scenes were lusty, but often gratuitous and lacking the true connection between lovers that would have made for great sex scenes.
London was prone to long monologues of I-lust-for-him / I-love-him / I-can’t-trust-him that are repetitive. The dialogue between the two, while often catchy, were just as often snarky and, like the sex scenes, lacking in true connection.
There is also, despite London’s moans and groans about her doubts regarding Arlo, there is really very little dramatic tension throughout.
This is the debut novel from MV Ellis and what a fantastic start!!
This story of Arlo (love that name!) and London is a fast paced story with funny dialogue and steamy naughtiness too!
I like that London is a multi-racial character, no blonde with blue eyes here! I loved her drive and I understood her trepidation and guilt about her feelings for Arlo. Although I wanted to smack her because it took her so long to admit to her feelings, she came through at the end!
Arlo is the epitome of a bad boy rock star, he was no holds barred with that alpha swagger. At first I was thinking, what a jerk! But then as the story moved on I saw the swoon factor kick in! You will love him by the end!
I would have loved to see some chapters from Arlo’s POV, but it still was fantastic first story from MV! I can’t wait to see what else she comes out with !
“I silently tell myself over and over that I’ve just got to trust that when I make the leap, Arlo will be there to catch me, because I definitely used up all of my nine lives in the car crash.”
After being on my TBR for way too long, I began reading Catching London. I went into this one blind, without any expectations. The banter between the two main characters, had me laughing out loud. If you like to read hot and steamy rockstars, with lots of angst, who are misunderstood this is your book.
London’s having a bad day at work, finding herself in a compromising position. Not the best first impression, Arlo won’t let it slide and makes an embarrassing moment very uncomfortable. The rockstar has a proposal for London which is too good to refuse. She negotiates a few conditions before accepting though. The attraction between them is palpable, but London fights Arlo at every step. Will Arlo continue living the lifestyle expected of a musician or will he cease sowing his wild oats? Taking a leap of faith and voicing your innermost feelings is much easier said than done, because who wants to fall.
My goodness are we presented with one hell of a meet cute! Nothing quite like our rock star lead, Arlo, catching London naked in his shower in her attempt to rid herself of a slew of spiders she encountered while cleaning his house. Arlo is the embodiment of an alpha male. He’s used to getting what he wants, and he wants London. At times he does cross the line of being too alpha. There was one scene in particular in which Arlo has publicly poured his heart out to London, and she doesn’t necessarily reciprocate in the way he was hoping for. He’s understandably upset, especially considering he’s never voiced such feelings of love for someone else before, and it results in him throwing a chair against a mirror in anger. While his frustration is clearly evident, it was almost too violent of a scene for my liking. That being said, London also manages to bring out the softer side in this rock star with such a tough exterior.
Sex is an important part of their relationship, whether it’s present in bringing them together, or absent entirely. Upon first meeting, there’s an obvious physical connection. They both want each other…badly. However, London is determined to distance herself from this man who has completely overwhelmed her. She hasn’t considered intimacy with anyone since the death of her fiancé, so her sudden feelings of lust and passion for Arlo are entirely overwhelming. She tries to leave him in the dust, but what Arlo wants, Arlo gets. He does everything he can to bring London back into his life, and it’s not long before their chemistry reaches a boiling point. They both admit the best strategy is to give into their passion, and just do the deed already.
But we all know these two are more than a simple one and done. I mean, does that seriously ever work? After they have a taste for each other, they find it difficult to separate. However, once Arlo proposes that London shadow him to photograph his band’s tour, London insists they need to draw a line in the sand that can’t be crossed. No sex between them on tour. As a matter of fact, she writes it into her contract before taking on the job. Again, we all know this no-sex clause isn’t going to last, but I must say I really appreciated when it was in place. It allows them to focus on a relationship that extends beyond the physical. They actually have a chance to get to know each other, and share some deep and intimate details of their pasts with each other.
At the start of their physical relationship, neither Arlo nor London are too keen to voice their true feelings for the other. It’s a source of vulnerability for them both. These two are artists who find it easier to proclaim love utilizing their own respective art forms. For Arlo, it’s through song. While we can’t hear the melody, we can see the poetry of his words on the page, and his love for London is more than evident. When it comes to London, she is much more hesitant to give into her feelings of love for Arlo. At first it’s definitely a source of frustration for us as the reader. He demonstrates in multiple ways that he’s serious and wants to commit to just her, even declaring his love in a public forum. And yet, she can’t admit to him even though she can admit to herself that she’s come to love this alpha rock star.
But then in a moment of clarity, London heart-breakingly admits her fear of loving Arlo in case things don’t eventually work out between them. She’s already lost one love of her life when her fiancé, Danny, tragically died. The thought of losing Arlo is another loss she’s not sure she could survive. It was an admission that gave us a window into London’s hesitancy to move on with someone else in her life. After shadowing Arlo on tour to produce a coffee table book of behind-the-scenes photos, London’s photography is what ultimately highlights her true love for Arlo. The only problem with this is that unlike a song where we can at least view the words, we don’t get enough of a description of her photography to allow us as the reader to truly appreciate her love for him. We see mention from multiple people that her photos clearly demonstrate her love for him, but more detail about what these photos entailed could have let us feel her love more clearly like we could through Arlo’s song.
Arlo may have started out in this read as a bit of a man-whore who would sleep with any woman on two legs, but in my opinion there were two moments which truly highlighted his love for London that went beyond their sexual relationship. During one of their first chats, London admits that while her focus growing up was constantly on ballet, her true desire as a youngster was to become a trapeze artist. This initially seemed like such a throwaway comment, and I’ll admit even I let this little detail slip from my mind. Yet, in the midst of the craziness of Arlo’s world tour, he manages to set aside time for the two of them in Paris to meet with an actual trapeze artist to teach them both a routine to perform with each other. He literally made one of her childhood dreams come true, and it was such a sweet and vulnerable moment that first made me realize Arlo isn’t just sticking around London for the sex. He truly cares about her, and wasn’t afraid to set aside his bad boy image to fly around on trapeze with the woman he’s come to love.
The second moment that demonstrates Arlo’s softer side came about at the end of their world tour together. It’s been an intense ride, and both Arlo and London know they’re in love with the other. We hope, as does Arlo, that the end of this tour can signal the start to an actual relationship between them. Unfortunately, the opposite happens. London feels that she and Arlo have been so close during this tour that she ultimately needs some space from him so she can focus on herself, and discover where this relationship can go. When she admits this to our alpha rock star, I was convinced it was either going to be the end of the two of them, or Arlo would ignore her request entirely to convince her they belong together. Imagine my utter shock when Arlo actually agrees to give her the space she asks for. He acknowledges that his instinct is to never let her go, but realizes that if he pushes too hard he could push her right out of his life. He might not be happy about it, but he places his faith in the connection between him and London, praying that eventually she’ll realize they’re meant to be together. The fact Arlo could put aside his inner alpha tendencies demonstrated that his character had truly grown and matured throughout the novel.
I am a lover of Rockstar stories, and this one, which was my first read by this author, blew me away! This story has it all….sadness, anger, humor, lust and possibly even love. Arlo Jones is a rockstar who meets London in a bit of a humorous way. He knows that he wants her in his life, but London has had tragedy in her past and doesn’t want anything to do with a rocker with a reputation. Can Arlo prove he isn’t that guy anymore? When he presents London with a proposition that will alter her life, how can she refuse? London is a great female character who you can’t help but relate to. I loved the back and forth between these two characters, they actually made me laugh out loud. But there is also drama and sadness throughout this story, which to me, makes it a great read. I am looking forward to reading more of this series as I am now hooked!
A different kind of rock and roll book.
Arlo Jones is a rock and roller use to getting everything his own way, when he wants, where he wants and how he wants it. That is until London enters his life. At that point all bets in the way he lived his life are off. Is Arlo up to the challenge? Well that’s the major question.
London Llewellyn has had more than her share of shattered dreams and tragedy in her life. She’s having a hard time trusting that life isn’t going to try to crush her. At this point she’s just trying to piece her life back together and follow a new dream. Little does she know that life is hurling a major curveball right at her when she least expects it.
I don’t do spoilers. I feel it’s not fair to the author. You can get the gist from the blurb. Better yet read the book. I tell you how it affected me.
This book brings a lot to the table including life doesn’t always turned out like we planned and expect it when you least expect it. Sometimes it seems like the universe doesn’t play fair. No matter how hard we will something it doesn’t means it’s going to happen. People can be magnets, consistently drawn to each other. These two individuals fit that description perfectly. They are polar opposites yet are drawn to each other in ways you can’t imagine.
There is so much to this book that is so enticing and will draw out all your emotions. It brings a lot of push and pull, smiles, some laughs, depth, angst, romance and heat!
This is a new author for me but I feel I will be reading other works of hers, especially if there’s more characters from this rock and roll band!
An enjoyable read for the start of a series. I liked London. It there were times I wanted to smack her. Love the opening scene.
I thought this was a pretty good read. It offered a lot of emotions and steam. The characters were just OK for me, but I’m hoping that will improve as the story continues in book two. The chemistry was good though.
Love it! This is a funny, hot, steamy read! I really enjoyed it!
I am totally blown away that this is a debut novel from this author. She is certainly one to watch out for in the future. Arlo is a bad boy rock star, and London had a tragic accident which ended her dancing career. No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a well written story which is humorous, emotional, and steamy. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more form this talented author, whose work I recommend for all.
LOVED THIS BOOK
I’ll start by saying that Rockstar billionaire books are not my thing. Usually when I see that in the description I’m immediately turned off. However, I’m glad I took a chance on this one. In the beginning I was rooting for anyone but Arlo to be the love interest, in fact I liked his brother. As the story progressed I found myself softening to his bad boy charm and even smiling at his witty retorts. The story is sweet, sexy, and may not go the way you expect. This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed her style of writing. Her characters have depth and she uses descriptive words to give you a clear picture in your head of the events happening. This book will make you scream with frustration, you’ll want to throttle the characters, each equally, and on more than one occasion, but in the end you’ll be wanting to read more from M.V. Ellis.
Rockstar Romance!
Caught. Yes, caught naked and wet in a shower by a stranger is NOT how London thought her day would go. Then to find out it’s Arlo Jones, a famous rocker makes it even worse. When he calls and makes her offer she can’t refuse, she see’s another side of Arlo. A side that makes her move forward from her past. A life that opens her up, a life that could change her if she lets it. Can she? What about her heart? She can’t lose it again. He’s a notorious rocker, but he’s so good in bed and he makes her happy!! Take the risk London! Reach out and grab that brace ring and take a freaking risk!!
Arlo is stunned by the naked woman in his shower. He’s seen is all before being a super mega rock star. No doubt a groupie just tried to get in his pants. Only she is different. She is not a groupie, she is the maid. He soon realizes that he doesn’t want to live without her and makes her an offer that she can’t refuse. Well if she did, she’d be crazy!!
It’s a whirlwind. I wasn’t too sure of Arlo at the beginning. He did some dumb stuff, but it all was ironed out in the end. I couldn’t put this book down. From the day I started to the day I finished up, I couldn’t wait to see if London would fall and if Arlo would be there as he promised to catch her. It was a great build of romance, with some intense scenes.
When London Llwellyn met Arlo Jones it was a moment to remember for both of them. London is still recovering from the heartbreak of losing her fiancé Danny, but she is not ready for all that is Arlo and his millionaire rockstar manwhoring self. London isn’t looking to fall again but when Arlo claims he will catch her, can she trust her heart to a man who all he wants is another warm body to be with? I loved this book and it was such a great story. The progression between Arlo and London’s love story was anything but a love story. They are both harden by their pasts but together they become more. Definitely a must read. I am truly hoping their will be another book about them.
Catching London wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I thought the characters were childish which lead me to have trouble connecting with the story. Ellis has a good writing style, and I’d try a different book, but this one just wasn’t it for me.
Catching London turned out to be an okay read for me. I was honestly surprised that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would because I absolutely love rock star romances. I liked London, Arlo, Luke and even Marko but I just couldn’t connect with the story the way I hoped. There were definitely times I wanted to throat punch both London and Arlo, they were so frustrating at times but there were also times were they were so good together. I enjoyed their chemistry and the story was steamy one with an okay ending. I just wish I could have connected with the characters.
Arlo Jones.. Bad boy.. Major book boyfriend!
There is a lot of funny and sexiness going on in this book.
I don’t have a lot to say but it is a good book.
Exactly what you think when you think rock star. Sex, drugs & rock n roll…
All in all this is a sweet read with all the perks of a bad boy rocker involved. Definitively worth picking up if you enjoy a good romance.
