A heartwarming Christmas story about finding what really matters in life.

Normally, I hold off until December to binge on Christmas reads, but I saw this on the shelf at the library and grabbed it. And I usually prefer happy, feel-good stories for that time of year. I didn’t expect to find an anti-hero in a Christmas novel. (Not that I’m complaining. I LOVE anti-heroes!) Even with all of these unexpected elements, I loved this story! Yeah, there was that part in there that some would consider sad, but if you think about it, it really wasn’t. Imagine getting everything you really wanted for Christmas. How could you be sad about that?
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this touching holiday story. The characters were realistic, and I found myself totally wrapped up in the story and hoping for the best for them all. I loved the reminder to take time to care for those in need and reach out with love. Highly recommended.
Y’all! I knew I knew Terri Blackstock was a master storyteller with suspense thrillers, but had I no idea that she could write romantic chic lit. This book had me literally laughing out loud. I was cracking up at Finn, the hero of this book. Then, I was crying real tears down my cheeks at the gymn walking on the treadmill. I couldn’t help it. This book was an absolute delight to read. I could not put it down. This is an endearing Christmas story with the message of Jesus with a HEA. This story will tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. My conclusion is that Terri Blackstock can write anything. No matter if it’s a spine chilling suspense or a sweet and inspirational romance.
*I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and was under no obligation to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.
This book has a powerful and inspiring message that slowly reveals itself through the transformative journey of two characters who have lost their way in a crazy and chaotic world. Finn is a jaded man whose career ambitions blinded him at a critical time in his life that he deeply regrets. And although Sydney tries her best to take care of her ailing grandmother she can’t be with her every minute of the day because of her highly demanding career. In the middle of all this chaos is Sydney’s sweet grandmother, Callie, whose tenacious spirit and trust in God’s love provides a much needed beacon of faith. I felt a deep emotional connection to all three characters as they struggled through impossible circumstances that deeply touched my heart and I so loved the powerful storytelling of this wonderful author. I read an early copy of this book provided by Thomas Nelson through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
CATCHING CHRISTMAS
Finn is like a stand up comic driving a cab, and what he thinks of his fares. Catches us from the beginning, and the characters he does has. His soft side shows with Miss Callie, her concern for her granddaughter, her faith, changes Finn. She keeps him at her beck and call, driving her, days before Christmas. A beautiful story at any time, especially at .Christmas. A time of faith, family and sharing love and memories with them.Given ARC by Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock is a Christmas short story. Sydney Batson is a first-year law associate with a pressing court case. So, when her grandmother needs to go to the doctor, she arranges for a cab to take her, since she can’t leave court. Flynn Parrish responds to a call never expecting to pick up a sick, little old lady with dementia. As Flynn drives Carrie around on her errands he begins to care about her. Carrie’s greatest Christmas wish is for her granddaughter to be happy. This was such a sweet story. The only draw back was that it was written in first person; and skipped back and forth between Sydney and Flynn too often. The story-line caught your attention and held it throughout. Never forget the people in your life. Take care of them, spend time with them. Just be there for them. One day you may find that they are no longer here on earth and you don’t want to have any regrets. Make each day count.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit in exchange for my honest review.
This was an entertaining light read. Pure fluff, but slightly amusing.
A very good Christmas story that is not another predictable romance.
This book is unlike any other I’ve read by Terri Blackstock. Honestly, it’s not the type of book I would normally enjoy, but it was well-written and had an honesty about it that drew me into the story. I’m glad I kept reading past the first few pages.
Callie is definitely the star of the story even though she is not the heroine.
Give it a read. I’d love to know what you thought.
A delightful Christmas story.
2.5 stars, if I could.
I bought this book in December of 2019 when it was on sale for $1.99. I’ve found some true gems for just a few bucks before so I thought, “why not?”.
I wish I had read more of the summary. I could’ve skipped reading the book if I had read the whole summary. It’s a very short book and an easy read. And it’s well written for what it is. Blackstock packs a good amount of character depth into concise prose. I wished Sydney was a bit more developed but I had a great sense of who Finn is.
But everything about the plot felt too quick, too forced, too staged. It was over before anything really got started. There wasn’t as much nuance as I wanted; I kept thinking, “And now this will happen because that’s the next logical step.” It wasn’t based as much on what the characters wanted. I also didn’t love the Christian overtones. It’s not my thing and I skimmed a good portion of the end because of it.
I guess it’s cute but I don’t really feel it was worth my time. Fortunately it’s a short read so I didn’t spend too long with it. C’est la vie !
A taxi driver reluctantly takes an elderly woman to a doctor’s appointment. He tries to simply do his job without emotional involvement. But this poor woman seems to have no one who is emotionally involved in her life. Or does she? I love the way this story is told from alternating perspectives—flawed, but likable characters. A sweet, Hallmarkish Christmas read.
a very unexpected tale
Very touching story
I could identify with the characters as I’ve also tried to work and care for an elderly parent. And I’ve wished I’d done some things differently…. I really enjoyed this story!
Funny yet touching at the same time!
Great easy read for the holiday season!
Really enjoyed this book!
I loved this book.
I was hoping for a light, fun read for Christmas. This was not that book! It’s a good story but I have not cried so much over a book in a long long time.
