Studying at Grimalkin has been Daphne’s dream since she was a little girl. With her best friend unable to do the simplest spells, her brother determined to find an old family spell to turn them into cats, and hot dates with a vampire, her hands are full enough.Add to that two other guys trying to get her attention, and a teacher that seems to hate her, and Daphne’s school year isn’t quite going to … isn’t quite going to plan…

Catching A Vampire by Laura Greenwood Is such a wonderful story that I loved reading. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series and I can not wait to read book number two. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about magic, fantasy and paranormal romance.

A fun romp through a supernatural academy, great reading. Oh the angst of young students! LOL
The things that our siblings can talk us into! I sympathize with Daphne all too well – I tend to be the intellectual read-everything-in-sight girl too. I would love to join her in the vampire history class, although I am not sure whether to envy her or to laugh at her for her ability to attract belligerent boys. Mona’s romance(s) seems straightforward compared to Daphne’s adventures in romance.
After reading Spell Caster and Spell Tamer by this author I was determined to try out one of her other series. As I was in the mood for an academy book, I decided to pick this one up. Catching a Vampire is a great start to this series. There’s a lot going on. Daphne wants to help her brother find a hidden spell to turn them into cats, she starts dating a vampire, one of her teachers doesn’t like her, then there are two others guys that start showing interest in her as well.
This was a fast paced read, but it was a bit on the short side. The ending was quite abrupt, but it did make me curious about what will happen next. This book does a good job of introducing the plot line about searching for the spell, as well as introducing Daphne and her friend Mona (who has her own series). The reverse harem romance is also set up with Daphne interacting with three different guys that I assume will all end up in her harem. I am also quite curious what’s up with that teacher that seems to have taken a dislike for Daphne.
I liked Daphne from the start. She has a clear personality and I liked that she knew what she wanted or in the case of her studies knew that she wasn’t sure yet. I liked how she liked learning new things and her competitive streak really shows in multiple scenes. There is some of the usual teenage drama and worries, but I felt like it was handled realistically. I also liked the dialogue and how natural it felt.
I liked the romance set up and meeting Daphne’s love interests, at least I assume these three will be her love interests. We get to know the most about Heath and he seems like a good guy. I thought they were cute together and I liked they both were nervous on their first date. It’s hard to say much about the other two, as we haven’t seem many interactions with them yet. There is one guy who isn’t very likable yet as her acts out in jealously, but I am curious to see how the romance will develop.
It was fun to read this book and I liked the setting at the Grimalkin Academy, although I had some troubles visualizing what the school looked like. It changed multiple times in my head from sort of Hogwarts to a school with campus and then back to a Hogwarts like school. I would’ve liked some more details about the school and what it looked like. I liked the concept with humans knowing about the paranormal, although it doesn’t really feel relevant for this book as it all takes place in this academy for witches and vampires. I liked reading about some of Daphne’s magical classes and hope to learn more about witches and vampires in the next book.
To summarize: This was a fun start to this paranormal academy themed series. I liked Daphne and how we get a good feel for her personality. Her behavior felt realistic and I liked how she acted, the dialogue felt pretty natural too. The story is fast paced and on the shorter side, but it did a good job introducing the characters and the plot. The ending is a bit abrupt, but did make me curious about the next book. I liked the romance set up and Heath seems like a good guy, I don’t have as good of an image of the other two guys yet. I look forward to seeing how this series continues!
An amazing start to a new series, absolutely absorbing and attention grabbing. Daphne’s dragged into a scheme by her brother to find a lost family spell, that leads her into a romantic tangle. I really liked Daphne. and was heart broken for her over Heath, can’t wait to see where the series goes.
I thought it was well-written, engaging, ‘keep your attention’ & humorous (from a teenage POV.) This is the 1 that got me reading her books
Catching a Vampire by Laura Greenwood is a slow burn paranormal academy with a reverse harem theme that I listened to on audio narrated by Kate Richardson. This is book one in the Grimalkin Academy: Catacombs.
I just love Laura’s books. They always leave me begging for more. The Story does end on a cliffhanger, but that was no surprise since it was the first book in the series. I can’t wait for the second book Catching a Wizard to be released on audible.
Kate did a great job on the narration. I loved that she used different voice/tones for each character. She really knows how to bring a story to life. I can’t wait to listen to more of her work in the future.

I listened to Laura’s newest academy audiobook while cleaning up after Christmas and loved my first glimpse into Grimalkin Academy! I thought Kate Richardson did a great job in her portrayal of Daphne (and the other voices, especially Mona – which I now want to learn about her story in the main series!). I thought the storyline had good flow and ending on a nice cliffy. These to me are more like novellas; I know it probably meets the minimum for a novel, but to me I seem them as nice stories to read in between the larger books, like a nice refresh/change of pace, if you know what I mean? Like I wanted to get through a story in a certain amount of time and this being about two and a half hours was perfect. I finished my task about 10 mins before it ended and could go about the rest of the day. If it had been an 7-10hr long audio, I would have lost the whole day just sitting there listening. I mean is as a good thing, not something negative. Ok, enough of my rambling haha.
So I am not 100% sold on Daphne as a main character, just because how she suddenly had one date with Heath and was like, oh my god he’s my boyfriend and we are going to have a long relationship. But I liked how she interacted with Mona, her schooling, her relationship (or soon to be) with Cade, and her brother Ryan. I think it will be a fun series to listen to, can’t wait for more.
For the narration, I think Kate did a great job bringing Daphne to life! I could totally see her talking the way Kate did, the mannerisms/inflections were pretty spot-on. I hope she sticks with the rest of the series. I think she will need to maybe beef up her male narration because we are going to see more of the men in the other books (or so I hope) because of their budding relationship with her (Bradley, Heath, and Cade).
Thumbs up from me, would recommend this academy RH series and look forward to what comes next

Catacombs is a side story to Kittens and I just loved seeing what Daphne and Ryan and Daph’s men got up to at the same time as what Mona and her guys. I was reading both series at the same time alternating between them.
Daphne and Ryan come to Grimalkin to find an old family spell to turn them in to cats. Ryan thinks that it will be in a Vampire library down in the Catacombs so persuades Daphne to get close to a vampire so they can get into it. but things don’t go as planned and Daphne starts to fall for Heath the Vampire she chose. Along the way she also has two other men after her Ryan’s best friend Cade and her childhood sweetheart Bradley. how will this semester turn out read and see.
I really liked this story. I was so caught up in it that it was a real shock when it abruptly finished, well for this book anyway. I am looking forward to the next in series ” Catching a Wizard” to find out more about those paranormal students. Recommended reading/listening What a cute young voice this narrator has, she really made me smile.

The other side of the story
It was seriously great fun reading into Daphne’s story, which we got glimpses of during her escapades with Mona. Book one flows alongside of book one of the Grimalkin Academy: Kittens series, without any heavy spoilers on other side. I wasn’t too sure at first if it would work, as I much prefer to read multiple-character stories all in one book, but being as these are short stories, I guess that it does work, really.
And, as with Mona’s story, this is a sex-free slow-burn reverse harem. Although in this story she only has eyes for one, which proves to be a problem considering the one she’s interested in actually is the one she’s supposed to be bribing to help them find the family spell. Add to that a malicious betrothed of the said love interest, whether he’s interested in keeping to his parents set up or not, and things start to get a little hairy.
At this academy, things are never quite as expected.
Final rating: – Really liked
Catching A Vampire by Laura Greenwood is a book that is set in the Grimalkin Academy series. This book is from the viewpoint of Daphne who is the roommate and best friend of Mona who has been featured in the other Grimalkin Academy books. The previous stories in this series were from Mona’s point of view while this book is from Daphne’s point of view instead. This book was fun and entertaining because it provided a unique and different look at a story from another characters viewpoint. I love the characters of Daphne and Mona with all their young adult angst. I love the magical world of Grimalkin Academy and find this book a great addition to this wonderful ongoing series. Catching A Vampire is a funny, sweet, satirical look at young paranormal love.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I found the storyline well written and kept me drawn in. The characters are enjoyable and well written. I recommend reading.

Daphne has always wanted to study at Grimalkin. She has her best friend Mona, who has lost her magic. Ryan her twin brother that wants to find a spell book to turn them into cats. Heath who she befriends to use him, but starts to like him. Cade who is her brothers best friend that she finds out likes her. Bradley her long time friend and boyfriend in grade school. A teacher who is out to get her. So much going on what is she going to do? What is it with these guys? What will Emma do to break her and Heath up?

Daphne and her twin brother Ryan are at Grimalkin Academy and they are looking for a spell. Heath the vampire is the step in the right direction for Daphne. And then maybe a little bit with Cade and Bradley too. But she better watch out for that mean girl!!

Daphne Chambers 4.0 GPA, teachers’ pet, and all around know it all is who we get to follow through this short novella length book. This series is set in the Obscure World with other series set within the same world and one follows her best friend Mona. This book is set before Mona’s first book giving us a little peek at Mona and her situation while getting to know Daphne. This book is all about finding a lost family spell in a locked away grimoire and her guy drama. In this book her brother’s best friend AND her childhood sweetheart are both pining away for her while she’s dating a vampire. It is a short book and it mostly follows her romance with a little bit of drama caused by the lost family spell. There’s not much substance to the book, just cute little read.

I am loving all the interesting characters in the Grimalkin Academy. This is the first book of the Catacombs series and Daphne and Ryan’s first year at the academy where they are learning how to be witches and warlocks. Fighting ancient spells, falling for a vampire and of course there is also a mean girl there’s so much going on in book one and I can’t wait to find out what happens for all of the characters in this fantastic new series.
