The uproarious, bestselling true story of the world’s most sought-after con man, immortalized by Leonardo DiCaprio in DreamWorks’ feature film of the same name, from the author of Scam Me If You Can. Frank W. Abagnale, alias Frank Williams, Robert Conrad, Frank Adams, and Robert Monjo, was one of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history. In his brief but … In his brief but notorious criminal career, Abagnale donned a pilot’s uniform and copiloted a Pan Am jet, masqueraded as the supervising resident of a hospital, practiced law without a license, passed himself off as a college sociology professor, and cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks, all before he was twenty-one.
Known by the police of twenty-six foreign countries and all fifty states as “The Skywayman,” Abagnale lived a sumptuous life on the lam—until the law caught up with him. Catch Me if You Can has been sitting on my Kindle for a few years now, and after watching the movie for probably the 5th time, I finally decided to read it.
Frank’s life as a con-artist is SO fascinating — there’s much more to it than what the movie was able to show. When reading, I was struck by the sheer volume of traveling he did in the …
What an exceptional story! Just as I closed my jaw from one eye-opening caper, another was around the corner. Never have I liked a crook so much, but Frank Abagnale’s boldness and creativity made for a gripping read.
The only reservation I have about recommending this book is that Mr. Abagnale is quite proud of his many accomplishments as a con man. That said, he has balls of steel. I’ve known a few con artists in my time, but none with the audacity and fearlessness of Frank Abagnale.
The book is a quick read and at times I found myself ticked that someone …
To imagine that anyone could actually do all the things he did and get away with it is scary. But well written and this shows we all need to be careful and not play into the hands of the wrong person.
Loved the movie….loved the book!
This is the autobiography of truly one-of-a-kind person. Amazing adventures and it’s all true.
Interesting read.
As much as I would love to wholeheartedly recommend Catch Me if You Can, I have to admit to being quite disappointed once I performed a modicum of research and discovered that very little of what was written about actually happened. In fact, I learned more about Frank W. Abagnale from a talk he gave at Google (available on YouTube) than I did …
An autobiography written in such a way that it’s entertaining and easy to read.
A great chance to walk in someone else’s shoes from his perspective.
I’m a male and an avid reader of true crime. Great book. Couldn’t put it down. Well written.
Very entertaining story. I would have given it 5 stars but there is a whiff of something untrue or exaggerated here and there.
Better than the movie. More realistic. Excellent read.
Far better than the movie. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this book was after seeing the film. Highly recommended.
To be a successful con man, one has to have a big ego, and Abagnale portrays himself accurately during his days as a con. While he insists he never took advantage of an individual…only companies, what does he think happened to the jobs of the tellers, cashiers, etc. who in good faith cashed his checks? He harmed many more individuals than he …
Read it when it first was printed I thought it fine well written fast paced
Ghost written — nothing to commend about it. Poorly written, boring, unrealistic. A complete waste of time & money.
Very good book.
Superb book. Fascinating character and good story.
