Love! Action! Horror?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. As I’ve said before, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.
This story begins with Thomas Walsh ending a call with his father. Thomas is a production assistant (PA) for various productions (television and film) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is currently about to start on a new movie filming in downtown Vancouver. The movie in question will star Peter Erickson who happens to be a pretty big star these days. The movie also has several PA’s for the different actors, the director, etc. Thomas will basically be Peter’s handler I guess. Lisette Grenier is the director and the movie is her personal, little project. Initially when she approached and hired Peter she told him that he would be opposite indie film actress, Lindy. Well…she decided to go another way with the movie. Lindy will be his sister and his co-star and love interest will be actor Cole Hamilton. Wait! What?
Keep in mind that this is a fairly small, low budget, artsy type of movie so everything is pretty low key. The crew has all worked together before in other projects so they were their own little family. Thomas has worked with them for almost 10 years in the area and has definitely worked with Cole on a different one. Peter has worked with Lisette many years before but didn’t know Cole, the crew or even Vancouver. So now that you have a general idea of the main players and gist of what they do, let me describe Thomas. He’s in his late twenties, quiet and shy. I’d say he’s also PDC (pretty darn cute). Peter is in his early forties, handsome and polite. I have to say that with as professional as Thomas is about his job and the handling of the actors, it was really cute when he meets Peter for the first time. When Thomas first meets him, while not as bad as wanting the earth to just swallow him, he was gawking at the actor.
In the movies, as in real life, everyone has something they don’t necessarily want made public. That’s the way life goes. Thomas certainly has his quiet secrets that no one knows about and Peter…Peter was part of another worst kept secret in the business. He had been the secret lover of a Hollywood director that had ex-wives and children. His lover had recently passed away, but now that Peter’s met Thomas things are turning around. There’s a mild Paparazzi incident, lots of drivers taking them places, filming nude love scenes and Peter and Thomas really getting to know each other. I have never read anything from Ms. Grey before, but this was so sweet and loving I have to look for more of her work. You ask why I added ‘Horror’ to the title of my review? Tiger Tail ice- cream.
RATING 3.5 STARS
Catch a Tiger by the Tail is book one in the One Scoop or Two series by Gabbi Grey. This is my first book by this author. This is a sweet, insta love, age gap story with two men, neither of which have come out of the closet, but together, finally find the courage and the right person to come out for.
Thomas Walsh is twenty eight years old and is a production assistant for a movie company in Vancouver. He has worked hard for ten years and loves what he does. Ten years ago, he left Prince George and his family behind, along with a dark secret that haunts him still. Thomas has kept his preferences hidden from both his family and his co-workers in Vancouver. But, when filming was set to start on a new movie and the leading man arrived on set, everything changed.
“Something told me things were about to get a whole lot more complicated.”
Peter Erickson is forty two years old and is a sought after actor in both the U.S. and around the world. Peter had been in a long term relationship in Los Angeles but his partner had insisted that they remain a secret. Now, alone again, he figured at this late stage, he would never reveal his true self. But then he walked on the new movie set and saw the assistant. One look and Thomas made him want things he had long since given up on.
“You’re stunning in so many ways. But it’s your heart that calls to me.”
This was a quick, afternoon read that was sweet, sexy and also sad when you hear what both of these men have been through. I loved them together. I adore a sexy insta romance. For some reason, even though I enjoyed this, things didn’t seem to flow as easily as I might have liked. With that being said, I’m still glad I read it and will be thinking of these two for awhile.
Peter and Thomas are really likable and well rounded people, there is real chemistry and a true bond between them. They hide their sexual orientation for different reasons.
This was a short but great story and the secondary characters were well written. I definitely recommend this book!
If you’re looking for a sweet, semi-short story look no further. There is some angst, but it doesn’t outdo the fluffy parts. I will say if discussing a past history of sexual assault is a trigger for you, you may need to approach this book with caution.
Who doesn’t fantasize about dating or falling in love with a movie star? Anyone? Anyone? (Be honest). You’d think being a PA on set would eventually knock that thought clear out of one’s head, but that’s not the case for Thomas. At least, not when it comes to Peter. The two hit it off right from their first introduction. Despite being on the opposite side of the cameras, they have more in common than they’d think.
The writing stayed consistent throughout, and I enjoyed the different characters in the book. I’m hoping maybe we’ll get to see more of Cole in the future. He’d make an interesting main character for sure, and I was left feeling very curious about him. As far as Thomas and Peter go, I’m not sure who I like more, so I will call it a draw. Overall, this is a great addition to my library, and I would definitely recommend it.

The entertainment business is certainly ‘entertaining.’ On screen and off.
The set production assistants and directors are just as amazing as the actors.
When a plot change brings a person’s sexuality out of the closet, it can make a career or ruin it.
It also can guarantee a HEA!
This is a wonderful story with chuckles, tears and a great tour of Vancouver, Canada.
This was a fun and sweet insta love novella. Thomas and Peter are great together even though it is a little fast paced. I loved all the secondary characters, especially Cole. Loved the epilogue too.
If you’re looking for a cute, quick and low angst fake relationship romance, I’d definitely recommend Catch A Tiger by the Tail.

Catch a Tiger by the Tail is an enjoyable double coming out novella featuring a May-December pairing. This one had that short story feel to it- a basic romance with likable characters and a speedier pace. While the brevity meant parts of the relationship and characters were a bit underdeveloped, I still really enjoyed the story.
The set-up to Catch a Tiger by the Tail is interesting. There are a number of characters introduced in quick succession and I had a bit of trouble discerning who to focus on initially. However, once Peter and Thomas moved to center stage, I was undoubtedly rooting for their happily-ever-after. Though neither man was out, the book didn’t spend too much time focusing on this plotline nor the emotions attached to coming out. Instead, Catch a Tiger by the Tail really explored a relationship’s starting point after the men entered into a fake relationship for publicity’s sake.
I’d recommend To Catch a Tiger by the Tail to fans of low angst romances, especially readers who like pairings between celebs and non-celebs. If you’re looking for a quick, enjoyable read that keeps the conflict to a minimum, this is a great pick!
