The most emotional and heartfelt book in the series so far! I loved the relationship between Calvin and Hobbs. Loved the families and their input into it all. I laughed (sometimes hysterically), I cried, I bit my nails at the suspense. I LOVED IT! I would give this book 10 stars, if it was possible!
If anyone in the book world deserved their happy ever after, it’s Ethan Hobbs and Calvin Summers. Those two men have such a strong bond spanning years. They’ve been through thick and thin, and nothing diminished their feelings.
In this book we finally get to meet the Hobbs Brothers – Rafe, Sebastian and Ethan. In bits and pieces we see the family as it was and as it is now – the struggles they face everyday due to being who they are and due to personal issues and demons. Finally light is shown on what happened between Seb and Hudson and how unhappy both men are, the mystery of Rafe’s attitude is solved, and I can only say: “Courage, Rafe, your family will always be there for you.”
I loved when Ethan talked to Calvin. It was amazing how drastic a change in him was when he felt safe at home. His constant daily struggle to simply function tore at my heart. Calvin, I think, is one of the bravest and most loyal men. He is the fierce protector. It takes a long time for them both to work through this but when they do, it’s just as if they’ve always been together. They are so in tune.
The team of course brings the humor and friendly banter to otherwise serious heart-wrenching love story. Dex and Sloane’s moving day and Cael’s coffee high were hilarious! This time trouble revolves around Calvin and the tough decisions he has to make in line of duty. In the end it is resolved somewhat peacefully but not without cost to others. This book ends on a serious cliffhanger but I loved it anyway. I highly recommend it!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Calvin. I liked how he never gives up on Hobbs. I also like that he is stoic doing his job and doesn’t let it make him a hardened man.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Calvin he faces down Hector, breaks Protocol and speaks to him though he isn’t supposed to. I can’t Imagine standing there all that time, having men and women call you names and not respond, knowing you did the right thing. but when he walks out and lays down his gun, man to man that was awesome.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My heart went out to Hobbs. He is such a sweet man to be trapped in his selective mutism.
Any additional comments?
I had been looking forward to Hobbs and Calvin’s story from the beginning. I hate to say it wasn’t what I expected. I was hoping for more light on Hobbs, selective mutism, why it’s selective.
Don’t get me wrong, the story is awesome, with plenty of action and drama as the others, and it also focuses a lot on the coupling of many of the teams and them moving into the new training and getting back to work. I think it mostly being in Hobbs view with him unable to speak, Mark having to interject so many ‘He thoughts’ or ‘I thoughts’ into the dialogue got a bit distracting for me.
Having said that, I still love this series and the book is still a great one.
If you like shifters, especially big cats, special ops, science fiction, romance and some hot man-sex this is for you.
“Catch a Tiger by the Tail” is probably the softest book in the series. I’ve always been curious about Hobbs and Calvin and their lovely friendship and their story here does not disappoint. I’ve never been a fan of the “friends to lovers” trope, but Charlie Cochet made me enjoy their story so much: I loved seeing a bit more of Calvin and Ethan’s past, their school years and their family troubles, the way their steadfast friendship is slowly developing into a love match. I found Ethan’s selective mutism and social anxiety portrayal very well-done and my heart broke for him so many times. I also LOVED seeing a bit more of the Hobbs family, the bad blood between the brothers, and now I’m very impatient to read Sebastian’s story. Calvin too, his struggles and backstory were heartbreaking and I loved how fierce he was when it came to protecting Ethan.
This sixth novel has lots of action and funny moments (seriously, the scene where DD helps Sloane move into Dex’s house had me crying from laughter) and lots of painful and thought-provoking ones too. And that ending: I SCREAMED. I’m starting book #7 now: I NEED to know.
I continue to love this series. I’m glad that we get Calvin and Ethan’s story in this book told by their POV. The chemistry and heat level is very hot! Whereas I tend to laugh my butt off with Sloane and Dex’s POV, there was a lot of “awww”-ing in this story. They’re just so sweet together, especially in how they support and defend each other. Calvin and Ethan are childhood friends and it really shows in their relationship.
This is a character driven story. With each book, you want more about the characters – even the side ones – and they add to the bigger story. The plot itself is not the most complex or hardest figure out, but I still think that’s fine. It’s interesting and the world building is fantastic.
This is another 5 stars for me. I didn’t want to put the book down, I want to read the next one ASAP and learn more, and I will recommend this to other readers. I would read 100 books in this series and love every one.
I seriously cannot rate this series high enough!! I have absolutely enjoyed each and every book. This one was one of my favorites. Ethan immediately caught my attention from the very first book. He’s like a gentle giant. And his best friend and partner Calvin is his voice. I was so happy they finally got together. I highly recommend the audiobooks too.
OMG!!!! This book is about Calvin and Ethan but as the other ones in the series is full of everything, you got romance, hot scenes, love, along with friendship, team spirit, danger, action, intrigue, mysteries and betrayal. Again and again, Charlie Cochet showed us the brilliant way she manages all the topics using shifters and humans relationships to teach us a lesson in discrimination and intolerance and how love and friendship are the answer for redemption. The story is so complex that kept me immerse in the book afraid to loose a single word of it. And all finished with an incredible cliffhanger!!!! AHHHHGGGG!! I need to start book 7 now!!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Catch a Tiger by the Tail is the sixth book in the THIRDS series by Charlie Cochet. This book is fantastic. Funny, sweet, sexy – we get a love story of Calvin and Ethan… along with some action and suspense. Love this installment to the series.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

The entire THIRDS group is an amazing family. I love how they hold nothing back to support each other but have no issue being utterly silly together. I so enjoy their bets and thank everything for Photoshop. Haha, Cael and caffeine, sad puppy faces and boxes. Although I do feel a teeny bit bad about how nosy everyone is. Oh, who am I kidding, no I don’t.
Eeek! Calvin and Ethan, I adore these two. “I will always fight for you.” Oh my heart, sweet Ethan you slay me. Calvin is amazing. They bring all the feels. The depth of feelings they have for each other knows no bounds. When they let loose, sizzling sparks fly. Plus I love the dynamic they have in and out of the bedroom. Ethan, well, he’s so sexy and they’re smoking hot together.
Really looking forward to Hudson and Seb’s book. I’m super curious about Sparks and her end goal. I imagine it ties into the mind boggling ending. Maybe one day all of these guys will catch a break but until then I’ll enjoy all of the action, suspense and danger. But most of all I’ll enjoy the love that forms the foundation of this amazing and fantastic series.
Calvin and Ethan have history with each other. They’ve been best friends since childhood and have been there for each other their whole lives. I love the bond between them and how deep their friendship is. It was also nice to get to know Ethan more in depth as well as his family. Destructive Delta was just as funny and crazy as they always have been. The world building was fantastic. And although the plot line is just shy of being cheesy, I’m still enjoying the story.
Catch A Tiger By The Tail is Calvin and Hobbs’ story! They’ve been best friends for years, making sure they have each other’s back. Calvin has known that he loved Ethan for a long time now, but Ethan has issues to work through, one of which being that he really doesn’t like change. One of the best bits of this book was when Ethan was telling Calvin about what happened with Dr Shultzon, and how the ‘good’ doctor said he was broken. I think I actually heard my heart break in two at that point! However, Calvin soon put a band-aid on it with his response. He really does know Ethan better than Ethan knows himself. However, Calvin also needs to place his trust in his partner a bit more, to realise that he can’t protect Ethan from everything, and that Ethan can actually cope with more than Calvin realises.
This book is all about Calvin and Ethan, but we get regular appearances from the rest of Destructive Delta, plus Ethan’s brothers. There is one bit involving a character that I have loved to loathe up until the part where I read his ‘why’. Now, everyone has a reason for how they act, but this one…? This one slayed me. And now I can’t loathe him anymore! Instead, I’m turning those feelings towards Dr Shultzon!!!
Incredible writing once again, with no editing or grammatical errors that I noticed, plus a horrible cliffhanger that will leave you wanting to pounce on the next book immediately. Which, if you’ll excuse me, I’m just about to do! Highly recommended by me.
