“Ancient cravings twist innocence into depravity when the Devil grows infatuated with virginal Pearl. Binge-read this masterpiece with the lights on.” – Myra Danvers, USA Today bestselling author I am the devil, and I am in love. Possessing the power to keep Pearl from the light, I shall keep my treasure to myself for all eternity. Locked in the Catacombs where only I may see and touch her, … eternity.
Locked in the Catacombs where only I may see and touch her, where no other will know my queen exists, she suffers beautifully—each dusk waking with no memory of the night before.
No recollection of the passions we have shared or the torments I have visited upon her.
No idea how I intend to ravish the very blood from her veins until she calls out my name in bliss.
CATACOMBS is a tale of pure horror. And though there is only darkness in these pages, Pearl’s HEA can be embraced in THE RELIC.

Horror is not normally my chosen genre, however, if I only read horror like this book from Addison Cain… then I am IN! This book takes you on a dark and twisty road and it will leave you wanting more. If you are looking for that typical, sexy romance with a guaranteed HEA- this is not it. But, this is well worth your time. Maybe you’re like me and not sure if this is the genre you like. If you are questioning it, this book will turn you into a believer. All Hail, Queen Addison Cain, Empress of the Dark and Twisties!
You know it’s a good book when you’re reading with a dropped jaw and saliva is pooling on the surface below you. This book will not be for everyone; it isn’t roses and prettily tied up at the end, so if that’s your thing, give this one a miss. If you love the dark, welcome. I loved the writing detailing Pearl’s life and just how difficult it was for women in that time period. Pearl has it extra tough, and she struggles with many things. She doesn’t seem like a strong woman, but she certainly knows how to bend. Darius is the perfect combination of loving and evil, and his attentions towards Pearl reflect this. The language and writing drew me into this horrific tale, and I could clearly feel Pearl’s emotions. While it’s a short read, this epic horror tale will stick with you.
Well this one was definitely one heck of a ride! A little historical, a little (lot) pnr and horror, and one great story! I can’t wait for more, I love all the words this author writes!
Prepare yourself. This book is dark. Very dark. Macabre. The storyline is guaranteed to make some readers squeamish, if not outright appalled. You’ve been warned.
As for the male MC, I honestly could not decipher if he was psychotic, deranged, demented, or what. The character is so complex, you wonder if his actions are truly a mercy for Pearl, or self serving. He is so very complex.
If a dive into the dark is what you are after, honey you’ve found it. It has a well written storyline with quite a few surprises.
This author is known for pushing the limits of reality. Her innate skill at crafting a world or situation is truly sublime. I felt so bad for Pearl in this story. It was deliciously dark and I wanted it to be a full story. I wanted backstory. I wanted an expansion of what transpired with Darius at the end. I just wanted…MORE. Yet, that is nothing new because I never want the words from this author to end.
If you are squeamish, have trigger issues, or like magical unicorn dreams and happily ever after then this is not your book but if dark, twisted, and delicious is your thing and you want to push your limits then I implore you to read this just be prepared that chances are you will be asking yourself, WHAT the hell did I just read?” or worse needing to find your security blanket, sleep with a light on, and grab a rosary/smudge stick. I had to do all of the above. I swear this author is trying to ensure that I am on the bus heading to Hell and I wouldn’t be surprised if she is the driver!! At least I will be in good company!
When Addison Cain decides to write horror, watch out!
I think that may have been one of the darkest, most depressing books I’ve read! I felt so bad for poor Pearl, The Catacombs is definitely a place I never want to visit! This book will stay with you long after you read it. It’s just so dark and disturbing. If you want to give yourself chills, then yeah, read this!
I personally do enjoy my storiea with horror and violence, and if you do too, you need to give Catacombs a chance Yet, dont expect romance….at least not conventional or maybe not even recognizable. Catacombs by Addison Cain can be really disturbing. As I mentioned if there is romance it is a twisted form of it. The story is dark and for some even unfeeling. There is no happy ending or even a hero, maybe not even a heroine. It’s a story about obsession, suffering, and unhappily ever afters.
I love Cain’s writing when I need a dose of “dark” and the story of Pearl is dark. It was a quick read, but what it lacks in length it makes up for in content. Even in a shorter story, Cain can build a world to draw you in, then completely mess with your head. Just remember this is true horror!
“You worship only me. He whispered the word into her mind. I am your God”
Whoa nelly! First, I’m a huge Addison Cain fan! Let me tell you, this story is like NOTHING you’ve ever seen her write before. I loved the new subject matter and characters, and I LOVED how dark it was. I can’t say too much without giving the story away, but I can say that the dynamic of the characters was spot on. I literally couldn’t put this story down until the last word!
“There is no God for you but me. There is no heaven waiting for you. I own your soul and your body. I own your mind. I am your life and your only reason for existence.”
Dark 10/10
Hotness 10/10
Mental thriller 10/10
A perfect release in time for Halloween!!!!!
This book….. I don’t even know where to start, this baby is dark and leaves you wanting more but at the same time the ending, well I could not have seen it ending any other way. Catacombs is a story set in the roaring twenties and Pearl (h) is a bit different than other people. The thing that makes Pearl different sends her into a whole nother world within a world that ends in the catacombs. I would consider this book to start out at a moderate pace and then move to a fast pace. Addison Cain sucks you into Pearls world and keeps there until the last period. I would like to say that this book is not for the faint of heart or for those of you who need hearts and rainbows!!!!
Disclaimer!
Do not read this when you’re alone in the house at night!!
You need a sunlit reading place, with butterflies and fluffy bunnies, and a stiff drink.
You’ll need all of it, believe me !!!
Do not visit the Catacombs!!! You might find a centuries old secret there!
Believe me when I tell you evil lurks there.
When I finished this story I slathered my whole body with lotion!
Desiccation will do that to you!
Gut. Wrenching.
This book struck me as being like the dark opposite of The Golden Line. Twisted, gruesome, and strangely erotic. Very much like being tied down to train tracks and watching the oncoming train as it roars down the line toward you, you see the ending coming, inexorable and shudder-inducing, but you can’t put it down.
There is no joy, no happy ending. This is straight darkness in a shot that burns all the way down. Poor Pearl.
5/5 horrifying.
Please be mindful that this book is not for those wishing for a HEA or total power exchange that you might find in another of Addison’s books. This is dark, dark, dark all the way.
Erotic? Yes. Tingling? Check. Twisted? AF. Romantic? Not a chance.
Anyone familiar with Addison Cain’s work knows to expect darkness, unexpected turns, changing motivations, and occasional heartstrings. There are no heartstrings to be plucked in this story, no hope to found, no love, no luck, no absolution. This story develops characters without providing back stories, leaving us to fill in the voids with our own emotions, our own pleas. Its passion so dark you forget there was ever light. The story is powerful and different from so many others, from so many HEA-this is not that and I loved it.
Darius is Master, God, existence in its essence. If written in any other context this might be a 24/7 power situation. He is all powerful. He is her world and beyond him- nothing. Each night a new pain, a new love, a touch, a new bruise.
If you’re not familiar with Addison Cain yet, you should be. Read this story, then pick up her others. She tackles the dark desires that draw us to read the reviews of such books in a way that provides solace, that lets you know that your desires are not isolating, they’re empowering. Addison writes strong powerful characters with chutzpah and gumption. She makes you crave the darkness.
Sick. Depraved. Wrong. In other words a decadently perfect Addison Cain read!
This story is very Addison Cain. It’s dark, disturbing and a mix of macabre and horror. It is definitely not a book for the faint of heart or someone who’s looking for a HEA. But that all being said, I didn’t want the story to end and wanted to read more!
This is a fast-paced dark horror read that is perfect for Halloween. Pearl doesn’t understand what she really is so when she defends herself against a human she will pay for her crime. Darius falls for Pearl and plans to enjoy her sweet innocence over and over in decadent and devious ways night after night, pain or pleasure, sometimes both. However once Pearl wakes her horror begins anew and she doesn’t remember her previous time with Darius. Will her clues reminder her of the truth? I admit there is something about Darius that will hold you under his spell. Plenty of drama and deliciously dark. I was hooked from beginning to end.
Just when I think that Addison Cain can’t write anything more twisted, she does it! And she does it in the best way. The way she writes is absolutely flawless. You find yourself so completely submersed in the darkness, that you find yourself drowning right along side the main character. This book is perfection. Addison Cain perfectly illustrates the unforgivable imperfect monster within these pages and the desperation of a accidental sinner.
I can’t get enough of reading Addison Cain’s books. The imagery is incredibly twisted and satisfying in a way I never thought possible. Every time I fly through one of her books, because there is no way I can put them down, I don’t want it to end. I’m constantly wanting more and more.
Not knowing what else to write and how to word it, I’ll leave it at this with the hopes that you, yes you, dip your toes into this authors work. It’s oh so delicious and positively addicting!
I hope there’s a sequel!! Brilliant job Addison Cain!
FYI – if you are a big Addison Cain fan, you may already have read this book before.
In “Catacombs” we meet Pearl. She’s just trying to survive in her world, by making herself as small and unnoticeable as she can even when she is in a crowded room. But some things don’t always work out the way we plan and Pearl is going to learn that some things can’t and won’t be overlooked.
I literally hurt for Pearl. My brain, so used to HEA, can’t seem to comprehend how this story ended. My mind is literally telling me to keep reading to find out more of the story, that I need to find out what happened next. But nope, there isn’t any more to be read. I’m left thinking, am I messed up in my own head to want to know more? Having read Addison Cain’s books before, this is one of the reasons why I read her books. They always make me feel so many things at once. This book is disturbing yet so worth reading too. Read at your own sanity!
This isn’t a new work, but it is the first time it’s available outside an anthology of dark works. I read it in the original volume and couldn’t wait for it to be available again.
If you thought it got dark in this author’s mind before, this is a wallow of unyielding Stygian night. Although the architypes are familiar, this is a whole new world of heartache and deceit. You can’t trust what came before, all you can do is survive the present moment. If your sensitive to other themes present is Addison Cain’s work then don’t come here, it’s definitely not for you. If, on the other hand, you find yourself questioning your values and craving more of this awful beauty then you’ve come to the right place.
Too often stories feel the need to have a Happily Ever After. Not this story. This is a place where the dark parts of the world triumph and it’s a spectacular read. This is not a story for the faint of heart. It’s a tale for those who enjoy seeing the ‘bad guy’ win.
Addison Cain’s Catacombs is a devilish good time with a devilish creature, and left me with those questions at the end that keep me hungry for more. The torments and pleasures and intrigues visited upon Pearl just left me wanting more, more of her, more of her devil, and more of this world we have a glimpse into.
To say too much would give spoilers it’s not fair to give, but if you enjoy darker tales and can handle bad things happening to nice people, and the dose of eroticism that comes alongside these evil characters, then give this book a try.
