An Aloysius Tale Aloysius, the magical black cat and powerful witch’s familiar, isn’t afraid to go into battle to protect his master, but the outcome of the fight turns his feline world upside down. A direct hit of magic steals not only his memories and power, but even the body he’s lived in for several centuries. When he wakes up naked on the floor of a veterinarian’s office, it isn’t as the … office, it isn’t as the cat Aloysius, but as the sixteenth-century French gentleman Alain Bellarose. And when Alain sees sexy and enigmatic veterinarian Luke Elliott, he decides he’ll make the best of his time as a human.
Luke is a man with secrets who generally prefers the company of animals–though the flamboyant boy who washes his face with the side of his hand and tries to lick his own privates might prove an exception.
Meanwhile, Witch Master Killian Barth and his secret weapon, Sammy, struggle without Aloysius’s power to draw on. Two evil females are circling, and seeing the coven’s weakness, they’re about to move in for the kill. When Alain’s memories return, he’s faced with the ultimate dilemma: protect his community or stay with the man he loves.

The Transformation of Aloysius (an audio review)
The expression is that it’s a dog’s life, but I have to say cats do okay. Lying around lazily in the sun, cuddles when they want and being left alone when they don’t, not having to go out in the heat or cold to do their business, three square meals, and the ability to do pretty much whatever they want. They say dogs serve humans while humans serve cats.
I am companion to both a cat and a dog, and I can attest to all those things being true.
So if you’re a cat who’s been a witch’s familiar for hundreds of years, with magical powers, why would you want to become human? Well, a bolt of energy might jolt you into that transformation.
Without memories of your past, though, and being completely naked, what’s a man to do?
Fall in love with his rescuer?
Alain instinctively understands he’s different. He knows what animals want. He’s protective of strangers who seem familiar. He wants to clean his genitals with his tongue.
Luke knows Alain is special. Not only is the man hauntingly beautiful, he’s in tune with the animals Luke cares for. As a vet, Luke is used to dealing with stays. And Alain is the most attractive stray he’s ever met. He brings the man home and offers him shelter while trying to resist the allure of those blue cat eyes.
Now, this is book three in the series so Ryder, Sammy, Blaine, and Killian all make important appearances. Seems the witches are determined to take control once and for all, and the men have to fight to keep evil at bay. And Alain? Or rather Aloysius? He can’t stand by and watch those he cares about get hurt, but if he transforms back to a cat, he’s risking hurting the man he’s fallen in love with.
I enjoyed this book. Even more because of Kirt Graves’ narration. His cat and dog noises are adorable. So is most of his work with the series – he was the perfect choice for these books. Now, this book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, but there’s more enjoyment if you listen to them in order.
Another great addition to the series.
Aloysius becomes a human and takes on the name, Alain. After being the familiar of Samlyn and Killian, it was a change to to say the least. Imagine taking on a different form and not having any memories of your past? Centuries as a cat and suddenly a human can be overwhelming.
Now, imagine being a veterinarian. You leave your office filled with animals, then return to find a human – in the buff – playing with the other animals. This is what Luke, our resident mysterious vet discovered. Coming from a troubled past, Luke has a few walls to break down in order to embrace any love in his life.
Aloysius graced us with is prowess in the first two books and it is truly wonderful to see him get his own story. Luke and Al were perfectly written for one another and thoroughly enjoyed the steamy window-worthy scenes.
Be ready for laughter, fun, action, and two men who love one another.
**I received this ARC via Gay Romance Reviews for my honest feedback.**
This book blew my mind! Al’s story is the best on the series so far. The story had some angst that made me cry a lot especially in the last part, but also had so much love, sacrifice and magic that made up for it. Even if the book can be read as standalone I strongly recommend to read first books 1 and 2 to fully enjoyed the participation of many of the wonderful characters we met in them in this one. Simply, this is the sweetest magical love story ever written…
4 ½ Stars
I am enjoying this series so very much!
Cataclysmic Shift carries on in the same vein as books one and two. The quirkiness of the cast of characters softens the seriousness of the tale. And seeing characters from the previous books was like meeting up with old friends.
This storyline is well written and kept my attention riveted on the pages from beginning to end.
Al/Alain is still my favorite of all the characters. His innocence and effortless charm are sweet, sexy, and fun.
Watching Alain and Luke become closer was lovely to see. Their romance is passionate and believable, and their HEA is satisfying.
I smiled through most of this book.
I look forward to more from this author.
Aloysius is a witch’s familiar until he is not anymore. A powerful with has turned him into a human names Alain. He wakes up in a veterinary office surrounded by other animals. Luke is the mysterious veterinarian. He does not like people as much as he loves animals. He finds a beautiful naked man surrounded and playing with his boarded animals. I do not want to give anything away, but this was a really good story. Loved all the additional side characters. Loved it!!!
I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Cataclysmic Shift gives us the tale of Aloysius. Aloysius is the familiar of the most powerful male witch in generations. He has bailed our heroes out time and time again. All he has asked for in return is for some salmon and all the adoration he was due. In this story Aloysius is returned to his human form and that causes all kinds of issues. I’ll admit I loved Alain but he wasn’t what I pictured a human Aloysius to act like. After 500 years as a cat I expected more entitlement and capriciousness rather that the sweet innocence we got. None the less I loved Aloysius and Luke. This was a sweet and lovely story of romance and responsibility.
Alain wakes up to scattered memories and no true recollection how he got where he was at or what he should be doing. Luke is working to get his practice solid and focuses on his animal patients while he tries to hide from his past. When he discovered Alain in his practice with no memories, he takes him in. As the two grow closer, Luke realizes that Alain has some interesting habits. As outside forces target them, hard choices must be made for everyone’s safety.
You will find yourself tearing up and laughing during this book. Al’s HEA is so perfect for him.
Oh my what a final to an awesome series. I must confess that I was wondering since book one if Aloysius will have a story and you just blown my mind. As a human he’s so endearing and sweet, innocent with a devilish side. It was a lot of fun seeing him trying to adjust to his new predicament and the new feelings and sensations.
It has a lot of fun, sweetness but also a bit of heartbreak which is a perfect blend for a quirky character that until now always supported and helped others and tries for one to find his happiness.
I highly recommend it and really enjoy it.
