Donovan McNair hopes this cruise will hold back the burnout threatening to engulf him. With a high-powered father pressuring his every decision, he has always toed the line. While he’s excelled in his law career, his personal life is a mess. He’s never dared admit his secret passions and desires, even to himself.
When a massive explosion erupts in the engine room, Sam and Donovan barely escape with their lives. Carried away on a small raft by the ocean currents, they run aground at last on a tiny uninhabited island. With no idea when or if they’ll be rescued, the two men are thrown together in a desperate struggle to survive. Over time, Sam and Donovan forge an intense and intimate bond. Their island relationship is sexy, steamy and satisfying, but what if they should be rescued someday? Can such intensity survive beyond the sandy shores of their tiny tropical paradise?

A love story with a difference!
Take one openly gay, newly successful painter and a straight, stressed lawyer, and put them together on a sinking cruise ship. By accident, or something’s/someone’s intervention, they do not get rescued with the rest of the passengers, but end up on an uninhabited island.
Being stranded off the usual shipping route they spend weeks together. And in a slow, natural way they develop an intense friendship that turns into a sweet love story.
To watch one falling hard for the seemingly straight guy, and the other slowly realizing his so called commitment phobia with women is just his attempt to ignore the truth about his sexual orientation, is a sensual joy.
Were this story not written by Claire Thompson, you might even call it wholesome. But of course with her you get all the highs and lows of a complex relationship in the making with lots of steam!
Lots!
A charming Gay for You novel, the reader can delight in Sam’s assurance of his place in life, and Donovan’s confusion when discovering he is developing feelings for his fellow castaway. The reader is quickly drawn into the trials and uncertainties the two heroes face, and leave us wanting more please, Ms Thompson!
I feel warm all over. It was a wonderful book of supporting and encourage someone to follow their heart. A lovestory when it’s at its best.
Sam and Donovan endured so much and yet it made them stronger.
I would have loved to read Donovans book and see Sam’s pictures.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Claire Thompson has written another amazing romance of two men from very different back grounds. Stranded on a deserted island with no rescue in sight Sam and Donavan must work together to survive. Sam is very comfortable with his homosexuality. Donavan is still figuring it out. He has never been successful in relationships with woman, but has not considered the possibility that he could be homosexual. It is heart warming to see this special relationship form between these two. Claire has written this story so well that you will be pulled into this paradise and watch it unfold as a bystander. Is the relationship strong enough to withstand the pressures of the demanding life back in New York once they have been rescued? Guess What? You will have to buy the book to find out. You won’t be disappointed. I never hesitate to buy any of Claire Thompson’s books, she is an amazing author. Thank-you Claire for another great read.
Sam Jamison, a talented artist, is finally getting some success in his career. Taking a cruise had not been on his agenda but he is delighted to be there anyway. He is calm and passionate about life and takes everything pretty much in stride. He would love to get to know the tall sexy man he spies on board. Donovan McNair is that sexy man and he was heading for burnout. He hopes the cruise will help him continue with his high-powered career which is controlled by his father. He has excelled at law but does not feel like his life is his own.
When there is an explosion in the engine room, he is left adrift with only Sam in a small life boat. Drifting with the currents lands the two on a small deserted island. They are forced to try and find a way to survive with what little they have or can find. They learn they can depend on each other and when one is at the end of their rope, the other shores him up They turn to each other for everything and it is natural that desire comes and inhibitions go, but when they are rescued and returned to their separate worlds will the love that began under such extreme conditions survive?
Castaways is an amazing story of two men who find each other under less than ideal conditions. Each one reached their limit at one point during their time on the island and it was the other who helped them find the courage to go on. It is a story filled with the joy and wonder of discovering the passion and love they find together. When torn apart by the real world, Donovan is left confused and Sam heartbroken. Is there a happy ending for Donovan and Sam? You will need to read Castaways to find out. Claire Thompson has created two amazing heroes, gave them an incredible plot and then crafted a story for us to read again and again. It does not get better than that.
A new standonle MM book by Claire Thompson.
Ever wondered what would happen if you stranded in a deserted island with a hot guy? Donovan and Sam are about to find out.
What I enjoyed about the book is how Donovan and Sam supported each other while on the island. When one wasn’t strong the other would be. And the slow burn between them.
And I loved the fact the book also shows what happens after. How do you get back into the swing of your normal life and is it still the life you want? Who are you and what makes you happy? These are all questions featured in the book.
Wow, I loved this book!!!!!!! what an adventure this book takes you on………..Claire does a GREAT job of writing a book to make you feel like you are part of the cast… Sam and Donovan take off on a cruise and meet by chance, and the story takes off from there leaving you reading page after page not wanting to put it down…….It is written with compassion, chemistry, ect……..if you like M/M books………dont pass this one up, you will love it!
This was such a touching and moving story. I fell in love with the characters. Sam was sexy in his calm and knowing ways and Donovan with his curiosity and fear of reaching out. I was moved by this partly because it wasn’t all about sex and domination but of discovery and inner peace. Finding out who you are and realizing you don’t have to stick with a label to be happy. I really enjoyed this book and it was fun to discover a different side of writing by Claire Thompson.
I read and reviewed a copy of this book.
New York City – Sam is an up and coming artist about to have his first show. He takes a break before the show on a cruise given him by the gallery owner. Donovan is a young lawyer also taking a break on the cruise before his first big case. After an explosion on the ship, Sam escapes on a life raft. He comes upon Donovan, who was thrown from the ship and is floating in the water. They eventually find themselves on a small, deserted island. Sam is openly gay but Donovan insists he is not, although he has a problem with commitment and relationships with women. As they spend the next few weeks waiting and hoping to be rescued, Donovan and Sam find themselves with romantic feelings for each other. For Sam, this is a wonderful thing. But for Donovan, it is a major life upheaval, throwing everything in which he believes into question. Donovan is on a journey of self-discovery, fighting himself on every step but inwardly aware of his love for Sam. Eventually rescued, the two must determine what and who is most important to them and whether their idyllic time on the island can become reality for them back in the city. This is not a story about a gay man and a guy who discovers he is gay. This, pure and simple, is a love story.
